A look at Breathless Cave in San Antonio, Texas.

Breathless Cave is a city-owned cave owned by the City of San Antonio. However Breathless Cave is a private cave despite being a city owned cave inside of Friedrich Park. Breathless Cave is next to Friedrich Park and is directly downhill from and adjacent to the Monte Cristo developments. (Ref: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2012-02-14/pdf/2012-2195.pdf)

Breathless Cave is occupied by Madla Cave meshweaver, C. madla, and infestation of fire ants. Fire ants are known to inhabit the perimeter of this cave both inside and outside. (Ref: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2011-02-22/pdf/2011-3038.pdf)

Breathless Cave requires special management because of the presence of residential development and potential future development within the cave. Threats include the potential for destruction of habitat from new development and vandalism, contamination of the subsurface drainage area of Breathless Cave from future development, reduction of moisture and nutrient input, and infestation of fire ants. (Ref: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2011-02-22/pdf/2011-3038.pdf)

The distance from the cave entrance and footprint to the nearest edge is about 400 m (1,312 ft), which is off the preserve. The surface and subsurface drainage basins have not been delineated. The cave cricket foraging area for this cave is undeveloped. Management for this cave consists of two cave cricket surveys during the summer and biannual RIFA surveys.
