History about Proctor Springs School in Waco, Texas explored.

Proctor Springs School is one of the lesser known schools of Waco. Not much history about Proctor Springs School has been preserved. Not much history is known about the Proctor Springs School. This news article will explain some of the history behind Proctor Springs School.

Proctor Springs School first opened on Monday, September 7, 1885 under the direction, guidance, and tutelage of Professor J. Boyd Cresap. Professor J. Boyd Cresap was in charge of educating students in all grades at Proctor Springs School. “The Proctor Springs school will open on Monday next, under the charge of Professor J. The superintendent for Free Public Schools of Waco began recognizing Waco Creek School and Proctor Springs School as schools of the city of Waco in April of 1889. The superintendent for Free Public Schools of Waco paid Professor J. Boyd Cresap  a salary $50 dollars per month. The contract extended from March 18, 1889 to June 1889. Children who could not be be conveniently accommodated in these two schools were admitted into the ward schools in tho old city limits, as directed by the superintendent. In 1889, the Free Public Schools of Waco was paying Professor J. Boyd Cresap to teach classes at Proctor Springs School. (Ref: https://www.newspapers.com/image/194775519/?terms=%22Proctor%20Springs%20School%22&match=1)

“The school committee reported that the matter of admitting children of the citizens of the newly acquired territory into the city schools advised for the present the renting of the Waco Creek school house at $12.60 per mouth, with Miss Garrett teacher at $50 per month, and the Proctor Springs school house with Prof. J. B. Cresap as teacher at $50 per month, commencing from March 18. The committee states that there were some objections to Professor Cresap which should be investigated before permanent arrangements were made. Alderman Goode said there was nothing to investigate, The alderman had talked with several patrons of the school and they were greatly pleased with the professor.”
