History behind the Ostermeyer Family Ranch in Galveston, Texas explored.

The abandoned looking property at 13715 Stewart Road in Galveston, Texas was once home to the Ostermeyer Family Ranch which was where the Ostermeyer Family home and part of the family's ranching land was located on. The Ostermeyer Ranch was established on two pieces of property off Stewart Road. The Ostermeyer Ranch was established on 18.1 acres of land. The Ostermeyer Family Ranch property dates back to the 17th century and 18th century and is embedded with rich history.

Lafitte’s Grove was established and plotted by Jean Lafitte in 1817 on what would later become the Ostermeyer Family Ranch. Jean Lafitte maintained a fort headquarters here while preying on ships in the Gulf of Mexico. Ostermeyer Family Ranch is located on the historic site of the Battle of the Three Trees. Battle of the Three Trees was fought between Jean Lafitte’s men and Karankawa Indians on February 1821. The fort headquarters was abandoned and was burned later in 1921 after his departure was order by the United States Government. A historic monument and marker is located on the side of Stewart Road commemorating both Lafitte’s Grove, Jean Lafitte, and Battle of the Three Trees. This historic monument and market is located was erected by the State of Texas in 1936. This historic monument and marker 2 blocks away from the Ostermeyer Family Ranch property. Now the historic monument and marker belongs to the State of Texas. The land the historic monument and marker belongs to Ann Elizabeth Golden Schmalz and James R. Wilder.
