At that time, that particular school was a junior high school and senior high school were students in 7th grade through 12th grade were enrolled, which was pretty unusual and different even then. Ector Junior and Senior High School the late 60s was a Hispanic and white school predominantly where whites and Hispanics were a majority of the student population. This led to Ector Junior and Senior High School into becoming a majority Hispanic/white school. Although Ector Junior and Senior High School was a predominantly Hispanic school even then. Ector ISD integrated Ector Junior and Senior High School in 1968. That is when black students began attending Ector Junior and Senior High School.

White flight basically is what happened next. So then Ector Junior and Senior High School became a majority brown/black school.  There was a lot of tension because people were kind of fighting for power a little bit and having to get used to working with each other, going to school together.  It was mostly positive, but there was a lot of tension there. And during that time there was just a lot of protesting going on.
