What the Country Kitchen Cafe in Odessa, Texas was.

Country Kitchen Cafe/Country Kitchen Café was a truck stop, restaurant and cafe which operated from 1961 until around 1991 in Odessa, Texas.

Country Kitchen Café was a restaurant and convenience store throughout much of the 20th century. Country Kitchen Café served people passing by/through the small town of Penwall, Texas. Mainly truckers. A tall, yellow on black with the caption “TEXAS FUEL STOP” was located 20 feet south of the restaurant. On the inside were bright red chillers. Country Kitchen Café was put up for sale in the Odessa American newspaper in the summer of 1975. The property was a sold to Penwell Truck Stop. (Ref: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/301772373/)

Back in 2006, Michael Dell of Dell Inc enacted a sales tax sharing arrangement with a 1.5 cent tax increase with a half-cent going to reduce property at the vacant Country Kitchen Cafe located on the southwest corner of is located near the site of the proposed FutureGen. However he was unable to buy the land as Rhodes Operating Inc/Rhodes Welding Company still owned the property. (Ref: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/303076482/)

Country Kitchen Café still has its two gas islands still mounted with gas pumps, restaurant and convenience store. 



 

Country Kitchen Café was located at Interstate 20 & FM 1601, Penwell, Texas which is actually at Interstate 20 & FM 1601, Odessa, Texas.
