Exploring what SH 45 Cave is. Another one of Austin’s lesser known caves and karst features.

SH 45 Cave is one of Austin’s lesser known caves and karst features located in an environmentally sensitive area. This news article will explain what SH 45 Cave is.

SH 45 Cave is an isolated cave hidden away from the public. This cave is located directly less than 200 feet north of Archeleta Boulevard and is just 10 feet west of SH 45. SH 45 Cave is within the perimeters of Loop 1 (Mopac) and SH 45. No one has ever explored this cave before. Hardly anything can be discovered about this cave online or offline.

Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority recommended that the City of Austin and TXDot install a cave gate at SH 45 Cave to protect the sensitive karst features. Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority wanted to know if TXDot had any plans for protecting these sensitive features and a reasonable approach to protecting these sensitive features.
