Mixerr Album Reviews #2,514

Sera-Lynn’s debut self-titled album was reminiscent of and similar to Teena Marie. She has that pop flair sound as she sings in tune. Songs that were on her album included Real Love, Rain, Be There, and I Don’t Need A Man. I Don’t Need A Man and Real Love were the buzz singles for this album.

Now Sera-Lynn’s debut self-titled album was an album only hardcore No Limit fans may remember. Sera-Lynn’s debut self-titled album was advertised in with a plethora of albums listed in the Coming Soon section of Master P’s Gameface album back in 2001. However her album did not get released due to lack of charting singles and was ultimately shelved as Master P felt she was not marketable as a singer.

Master P was trying to market Sera-Lynn as "the next Britney Spears" even though he was trying to market Sera-Lynn as the Teena Marie of No Limit Records. Sera-Lynn was mentioned in various articles printed in Billboard Magazine from 2001 to 2003. However nobody was checking out for Sera-Lynn due to a lack of interest among other issues. And the fact that Master P was trying to market Sera-Lynn as "the next Britney Spears" and he was trying to market Sera-Lynn as the Teena Marie of No Limit Records at the same time which did not necessarily work.

Real Love was a song that appeared on Master P’s 2001 album Gameface. Real Love was a Teena Marie inspired cut which sampled Teena Marie - Square Biz. The song had that pop flair and crossover appeal. However the song did not catch on with pop fans, No Limit fans, and the target audience as Real Love charted at just #95 of 100 on the Billboard Top 100 charts. The song fell down to #100 the Billboard Top 100 charts shortly afterwards.

For those who remember, Master P brought Sera-Lynn in as a newcomer for his record label back in 2001. She appeared on the Teena Marie inspired cut Real Love with Master P which appeared on Master P’s 2001 album Gameface. Sera-Lynn was a blond, blue-eyed singer and dancer and who performed in the music video for Real Love.

I Don't Need A Man was the buzz song for her debut album which featured Lil Romeo. The song was produced by Suga Bear and XL. I Don't Need A Man did not chart on the Billboards. This led her album to be shelved.

I rate this album 3/5***.
