Lil Mo - Meet The Girl Next Door album review

Meet The Girl Next Door was more romance themed than having an actual slice of live vibe that her debut album Based On A True Story was. Some of the song titles are dead giveaways as to how this album is more romance themed. Songs such as 4ever, Doing Me Wrong, Why Do We Fall In Love, Shoulda Known, So Lost Without You, 1st Time, Ain't No Reason, Brand Nu, and Get Over It are dead giveaways.

Also, this Lil Mo album is more inspirational than her last one or any of her other albums for that matter relatively speaking. Songs such as It's Your World, Letter To My #1 Fan, So Lost Without You, and Ain't No Reason are key inspirational songs. Her vocal range is much wider, her notes are richer, and her voice is stronger. The production that accompanies her is very well done and professionally produced.

The Meet The Girl Next Door album by Lil Mo was very underrated and overlooked for its time by fans and mainstream media. Mo should have put out more singles and music videos for this album as she did with her debut album Based On A True Story. All the songs had hot production by Missy Elliott and Chucky Thompson. Sadly Elektra did not do much to promote this album in terms of promotion. Elektra did not give this album much of a push which is sad because this album truly had such potential.

Lil Mo sings about why we fall in love on the song Why Do We Fall In Love. Why Do We Fall In Love is a song which gives us answers as to why we fall in love. Why Do We Fall In Love is similar to the song Why Do Fools Fall In Love from the soundtrack Why Do Fools Fall In Love. You know the old saying. Only fools fall in love.

Let's talk about love. Love is something you can feel, but can't see it. You can't taste love, but you can hear about it. You can say it, if you don't mean it. You can buy love even if you don't need love. People talk so much about love. What is the meaning? It makes no sense. So what's the reason? Tell me why do we fall in love?

They say only fools fall in love. However love was meant for all of us. So what we think we know, we don't know. You can never know enough about love. Love is materialistic, physical, and sensual.

Love can make you laugh and make you cry. Love can make you tell the truth or tell a lie.
It could be your life or it could be your death. However love can and will destroy your soul. Figure it out.

They say you can buy love. That is what the lyrics “You can buy it, if you don't need it/You talk so much about it, what is the meaning/It makes no sense, so what's the reason/Tell me why do we fall in love?” mean. People do buy each others love.

We think love is perpetual, but the one who loves you will let you go. The pleasure of love is imaginable. As humans, we take love for granted. Do we really know what love means to us? If it wasn't for love we wouldn't be born. Love puts us together and tears us apart. Factually speaking, love can even mend or break your heart. Love is what we have for our self and/or what you say to your child.

These are the things that we really need when we talk about this thing called love.:

Physical affection, emotions
Feelings, honest
Wanting, opposites of desire
Longing, needing
Craving, lusting
Baby you light my fire
Graduation, kissing
Hugging, touching
Yearning, sexing
Mother to her child

Doing Me Wrong is a percussion driven and guitar driven ballad about how many men did her so wrong in the past. She finally meets the man of her dreams after having so many men who did her wrong. The song shed light on Lil Mo’s perspective of men and how she feels about men. The vibe is more negative due to the sounds of the low notes played on the guitar despite fans saying Doing Me Wrong is an uplifting song.

Now the percussion selection used on this song fits in perfectly with the mood

Precision, Chucky Thompson, and Missy Elliott produced Doing Me Wrong. Missy actually co-produced the song in 2002 and again in 2003.

The person Lil Mo was with changed her and the way she felt about men. She was just so disgusted because the one she loved she couldn't trust him. She couldn't trust him. This person told her that if she had never been hurt, she would not know what happiness is and just how good it feels.

Lil Mo was scared to give him all of her. This is all because her last lover left her helplessly. She was just sitting around like a bird without its wings.

She was so afraid of going through the same thing again. She had been through so many things she can't name. He showed Lil Mo not to block her heart from every man that walks up to her. Because he was the right man for her.

She never thought she would ever find love this good. Every man she had but him did her wrong. He's a wonderful man. She is glad to have given her man a chance to prove to her he was the right one. She is glad and appreciative of her man.

Lil Mo was so afraid to open her heart to him. To break down that wall. She was so afraid of falling in love and getting hurt again. She was used to sitting around. Lil Mo never thought she would ever find love this good.

Missy Elliott inspired her to write this song. Lil Mo wrote this song when she was going through a tough breakup in 2002. These lyrics are a reference to the previous sentence.: “Thank you Missy for writing this song/‘Cause I remember I used to be sitting around/Lookin' all crazy, Lookin' for love/But now I found it/And it feels so good”

It's obvious from that Lil Mo is happy with her new marriage and her firstborn child. She states she's really to settle down and have some kids on the song 4ever. She's ready to live life. It's ride or die and do or die for Lil Mo! She's ready to get married and be in a marriage.

Lil Mo and Fabulous make a great duo! Fabulous raps and Lil Mo sings resulting in a perfect combination. That's why whenever they both collaborate, their songs turnout to be a success with fans alike. This isn't the first time Fabulous and Lil Mo have collaborated. Check out songs such as Superwoman, Sumtimes I, and Can't Let You Go!

Lil Mo is at the point in her life where she is tired of playing games. She is ready to settle down, to buy a house, change her last name and have some kids. She is ready for the life to live and all love has to give.

Lil Mo shows maturity in this song. She went from being Superwoman to a wife. These lyrics highlight her maturity as a woman: “Ready for the life to live/And all love has to give/I been your superwoman for so long/Ready to be your wife”

Now that love's taken over, she is 100% sure that it's here to stay. There are no issues standing in her way. Both of them aren’t going anywhere.

Let's make it official. Together for always. Marriage will be crazy, baby. Can you live with it? To have and hold forever. Baby ride or die till death do us part. Let's make love last forever. Let's make it last forever.

It's Your World is an inspirational song telling people they can do whatever they want. Lil Mo intends to inspire by reaching out to the youth on this song. You just have to have a drive to do want you want with you.

Stand for something. Don't fall for nothing. Not even a piece of good loving. Always be a leader, a giver, and not a receiver. Be a dreamer as well a believer. Reach your dream. Just believe in your dreams. It’s not as hard as it seems. You can become or be anything because it's your world.

Lil Mo is a believer and a leader. Now that Lil Mo is grown, she teaches these young girls a lesson. Good morals over power and over peer pressure. People will try to stress you. Thought they talk about they will respect you.

Strive for perfection and keep your head to the sky. Always make them follow the leader even though you want to be down. Never ever follow. It's your world. You can have anything. Anything that you need. All your heart's desires. Just believe in your dreams. It’s not as hard as it seems. You can become or be anything because it's your world. The sky is the limit.

The song So Lost Without You is about how Lil Mo is lost without her lover in her life. The song takes place after a lovers quarrel or in this case an argument.

Last night they had an argument. Lil Mo said things that she didn't really mean. She let the moment get the best of her. Now she asks for forgiveness. She already promised she wouldn't be that way to him. She wouldn’t know what to do if love walked out of her life. Now Lil Mo doesn’t think she could carry on because she would be so lost without him. She would be a mess for the rest of her life.

Life would be so unfair as everything would never be the same again.

On Letter To My Number 1 Fan, Lil Mo lets us know just because she is a singer and a celebrity, she is just like you and everyone else. She is a regular human being.

Don't you ever think of just seeing her on the TV screen or in a magazine that her life it seems to be one big fantasy. When the lights go down, the cameras wrap and go, Lil Mo gets to really be herself. But one thing you should know is that she is just like you.

Lil Mo is loved by millions.People know her name. They recognize her face. Some nights she never gets to sleep because there are so many people to please. Sometimes she wishes she was you so you could walk in her shoes. She is only human.

Lil Mo’s Ten Commandments was a cover of Notorious BIG - Ten Crack Commandments. However this version of Ten Commandments is for the ladies. Lil Kim’s raps gives the song a flavor of East Coast rap and raunchy sex rap. Lil Mo wrote herself a manual on how to keep your man. Those are her 10 commandments.

Ain't No Reason inspires people who are in a relationship not to fight but instead to work things out. Lil Mo inspires people to stay in a relationship before deciding to call it quits. There is no reason to people relationship can't get through trying this time. Before calling it quits, let's just talk about it and work it out. We can work things out. Relationships can be for better or for worse. You can work it out. The best solution is to talk things out. It’s not too hard to talk it out. That’s a way to work things out.

Naturally Smooth - Stone City album review

It’s refreshing to see some soulful R&B/soul come out St. Louis, Missouri instead of the typical pop and raunchy dirty Southern rap. This is one of those mega rare albums you must have or hear! It’s R&B/Soul you never knew existed. Just pure R&B/soul harmony singing with lots of ballads. Underground R&B/soul is the best! This album has that amazing early 00’s sound. All 17 tracks are worth listening to and not skipping.

The album was self-produced and self-distributed by the group in 2003. When an album is self-distributed by group or an artist, that album often does not get distribution past their hometown. That is why the album is extremely hard to find. However the album did better overseas in countries such as Japan and Germany than it did in the United States.

Don’t Go uses a soothing rhythmic selection of 2 bongos as the percussion selection. The 2 bongos blend in perfectly with the calm melody.

Juicy is a smooth MIDI keyboard synthesized cover of Mtume - Juicy Fruit. It’s a sensual, sexual ballad about sex. The MIDI keyboard synthesizer used in this is dead give away that this song is an R&B/soul cover of an 80s song.

NS Funk uses a touch of smoothness and funk. Naturally Smooth comes with a smooth sound over the funk sample of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - The Message. Naturally Smooth sort of cover the 80s hit called Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - The Message. Ain’t  no fakin’ the funk as Naturally Smooth makes you listen to their smoothness.

The Raft - Abloom album review

The Raft - Abloom is a brilliant dream pop album written by one of the best songwriters from Brighton, England, UK. It’s dreampop with a shoegaze twist. Think about the summer-y dreampop sound when you listen to this album. A sound that is heard but not often thought about. Phil Wilson is the genius behind The Raft. This album was released digitally on bandcamp as a digital download on the date of April 5, 2019.

Xanadu was the first single off the album. Xanadu is a soft luscious pop song with a dreampop sound perfect for summer. It’s perfect summer music.

No, this song is not a cover of the original Xanadu by Olivia Newton-John. Many people seem to think this song is a cover of the original Xanadu or at least that what they believe. However that is not the case as this song was an original composition. Xanadu was written by Claire O'Neill and Phil Wilson. Producer JPedro has produced Xanadu in 2019. Phil Wilson was inspired by a song called The Cranberries - Linger.

The song Xanadu uses an arrangement of four chords from a guitar. All four chords remain the same throughout the song. There are noticeable drops in certain place of this song. Most notably around the chorus.

Joab was the second single off the album. Joab has that summer-y dreampop sound. The song shows a spec of brightness even when things are cloudy.

She Floats uses a bold chorus that blends in with a bold chorus perfectly. No hesitations, clicks, pops, or long pauses can be heard in the vocals. The song also uses that shoegaze sound you hear in pop music.

Open Up Your Heart is an upbeat acoustic pop song about a woman opening up her heart to a man she wants to be in her life. The song Open Up Your Heart uses a dream pop sound with a shoegaze twist. The song also has a breathtaking angelic sound soothing to one’s ears.

Lil Louis - Nyce & Slo single review

The Nyce & Slo single is one of Lil Louis’ lesser known singles from his extensive discography that had not received as much airplay underground or mainstream. Regardless of popularity, his fans more or less slept on this single of his. This single has 4 mixes of the song Nyce & Slo.

Nyce & Slo uses a repetitive house soundscape. The song’s tempo transitions from downtempo to mid tempo pretty quick. Tempo transitions back and forth from downtempo to mid tempo and back downtempo. The song had people acting wild and crazy on the dance floor in not just Chicago, but in other countries across the globe. Nyce & Slo is a fine example of Chicago house. Of course Nyce & Slo is a very sexual song and a straight club banger!

The repetitive nature of this song many annoy listeners and detract them away from listening to this song entirely. Of course this might cause listeners to skip the song completely which is understandable.

Tony Humphrey co-produced this song with Lil Louis in 1989 just before the release of his debut album. Peter Black is the person playing the piano and Lil Louis is in charge of the vocals.

Vocals change as well as frequency is changed throughout the song. The woman’s voice who is saying “Boy boy boy” is soon muffled over by Lil Louis saying “okay okay okay”. This is because Lil Louis and Tony Humphrey were trying to give us a futuristic electronic experience with club music. The bass line is muffled pretty cleverly.

The Tony Humphries Wildlife Mix of Nyce & Slo uses heavy bass lines backed by a solo piano. A reverb is used which soon blends into the auto-wah. The auto-wah is the sound effect which commonly used on this mix of Nyce & Slo. The song is regarded as a timeless classic.

The Zanzibar Mix of Nyce & Slo also uses heavy bass lines backed by a solo piano. The auto-wah is the sound effect which commonly used on this mix of Nyce & Slo. You can feel the passion and production work Lil Louis put into this mix. The Zanzibar Mix of Nyce & Slo is also regarded as a timeless classic.

The Love Bug Mix of Nyce & Slo uses an electronic bug styled synth similar to DJ Snake & DJ AK - Buggin’ Bass. This electronic bug styled synth can be heard all over the place on this mix of Nyce & Slo.

The R Rated Mix of Nyce & Slo has a more jazzy sound than the original version due to the saxophone being used. Also a jazz drum kit was used.

Lil Louis & The World ‎– Journey With The Lonely (cassette promo edition)

The promo edition of Lil Louis & The World ‎– Journey With The Lonely was an untitled promo in issued on a  pale yellow card sleeve in cassette format by Epic Records and Sony Music in 1992. (Some versions of the cassette came issued with a pale white card sleeve.) Now this version had a couple of songs which appeared as hidden tracks on the retail version. The songs were Share and Jazzmen.

Lil Louis & The World - Journey With The Lonely is much better than your average 4/5**** electronic album or house music single.  The sounds of acid house music meet dance music on this album. One thing is for sure is that this album is still ahead of its time today. The house music today cannot hold a candle to this album. It stands the test of time in today’s music and climate. Lil Louis is a genius. He sure has a unique eclectic taste in music.

Lil Louis did not write this album for fame, fortune, or popularity. He believes success comes from one’s own hard work and effort. He was clearly satisfied by the results of this album of his.

He wrote this message in the liner notes.:

 "4 the lonely generation

I didn't write this album 4 fame
I didn't write this 4 fortune
I didn't write this 4 popularity
I wrote this 4 U
Success comes from within"

Do U Love Me is the bonus track for this EP that can also be found on the album Journey With The Lonely. Do U Love Me samples Taana Gardner - HeartBeat and Freedom - Get Up And Dance. Joi Caldwell’s vocals were sublime on this song.

This is a wonderful piece of house music which can be considered a classic deep house song with a bass line that will get you every time you listen to this song. The kick drum kicks in after the first verse and the snare drum that kicks in after the second verse. The bass and drums will have you bounce around. It is both hypnotic and melodic. The song is nothing short of emotionally tugging.

The song explores regret in seeking confidence from a friend. Read Verse 2.:

[Verse 2]
In my soul I always knew
That I dared to ask of you
Who’s a friend, I would regret
So I live with my secret
Somewhere singing signs of spring
Whispering a melody
But before I’ll spread my wings
Will you answer candidly

[Chorus]
If you love me
Take me higher and higher (x2)

The fifth verse seeks for truthfulness. Read Verse 5.:

[Verse 5]
Hold me baby
Here’s what I say to you
From my soul (From your soul)
I’m asking you (Just be true)

The song Do U Love Me is also about taking love inside a relationship to a higher level. Lyrics to the chorus indicate that.

[Chorus]
If you love me
Take me higher and higher (x2)

Dancing In My Sleep came from the 1992 album Journey With The Lonely. Joi Cardwell was the lead vocalist who wrote this song. Her vocals are sung in perfect harmony. Lil Louis himself did not write this song. Lil Louis produced the beats himself. Dancing In My Sleep is one of the lesser known songs from Lil Louis.

Dancing In My Sleep is about awakening to a new world with eyes wide in search of something new. Reaching for our dreams. The first verse highlights this at the very beginning. Take a look.:

[Verse 1]
Once upon a time
When things were new
Our eyes wide
We saw the world anew
We sang our songs and we danced along
Reaching for our dreams
Now it’s been so long since our view was clear
And our dance we walk through like sleep

Imagine dancing in your sleep. You toss and turn trying to break the mold. Someone lovingly reaches out to you. Pushing you to grow. Others tell you not to change and to stay the way you are. Now it’s time to ignore them and shake to a different dance or groove.

Verse 2 highlights the encouragement of growth. Take a look.:

[Verse 2]
Oh
Fitfully
I toss and turn trying to break the mold
Lovingly you reach out to me
Pushing me to grow
Others tell me not to change
to stay the way I am
But I’m itching to move
Time to groove
Time to shake to a different dance

Now the chorus explains how to shake this mood by watching for something new. Read the chorus to find exact details.:

[Chorus]
I’m dancing in my sleep
Waiting for something new
Im dancing in my sleep
Waiting for just for you
I’m dancing in my sleep
Waiting for something new
I’m dancing in my sleep
Waiting for just for you
I’m just dancing
Trying to shake this mood

Club Lonely was the international club hit which revived Lil Louis name into the 1990s which gave him popularity at the earlier end of the decade. It’s another song which made Lil Louis an international underground house music sensation.

This song defined Chicago house music back in the 1990s. The song is a mixture of house music and techno. It’s a perfect acid house jam. Acid jazz meets house music with sensuous melodies. The melodies are sensuous. Sensuous melodies are what made this song a dance hit for 1992. Club Lonely stayed at #1 on the BillBoard Charts for a few straight weeks in summer of 1992.

Club Lonely was a song written for the lonely people who were part of the lonely generation. Lil Louis was well aware of this when he wrote Club Lonely. The song is perfect for this lonely social outcasts of the world.

Club Lonely is the club that worldly people love. Club Lonely is the place for broken hearts is where players hang apart and the lonely people congregate. You’ll find happiness and love among the rest if you go to Club Lonely. Listen to the music and the sound. The beat makes you move in the groove. So work on in the groove down at Club Lonely. Listen to the laughter from the crowds. That will liven up your mood.

You’re My Reason is a mellow tune with a mid tempo pace. The song is Chicago house music at its finest. You’re My Reason is one of the lesser known songs from Lil Louis.

Funny How U Luv is also another one of the lesser known songs from Lil Louis. The song uses a dreamy soundscape with a touch of smooth jazz. A funky guitar adds into the layers of instruments used on this song. The guitar gives the song an edge of funkiness.

Jazzmen is a Lil Louis song where the sounds of jazz music meet acid house music. The song is an instrumental for the most part. The saxophone solo is on point and so is the trumpet solo. Jazzmen is the track only available on the CD version of Journey With The Lonely and not on vinyl.

Lil Rob - Natural High album review

Sureño rapper Lil Rob graces us with another firme album called Natural High from Low Profile Records which was released in 2000. Lil Rob uses a mixture of oldies, soul, and funk on this album as both genres are prevalent in the Chicano rap community. High Till I Die is considered by Lil Rob fans and Chicano rap fans to be a classic oldies masterpiece. High Till I Die is considered to be another one of Lil Rob's greatest albums along with Crazy Life, RIP, Can't Keep A Good Man Down, Neighborhood Music, and Natural High. High Till I Die is something for the chicos and chicas to enjoy. Roberto Flores aka Lil Rob is known for his gangster voice in his sick flows and firme beats.

Lil Rob took all old school beats and added new tight hard lyrics to No Soy De Ti. No Soy De Ti is a fine example of Chicano rap as the whole track is spoken in the Spanish language. In fact, this track is somewhat the most overwhelming overlooked track off the Natural High album. No Soy De Ti is a firme track. No Soy De Ti also seems

Natural High is an ode to marijuana which is why Natural High is appropriately titled. Lil Rob makes marijuana highly publicized on this track. His love for marijuana is what he raps about. His love for marijuana is what makes the track great. Life is wicked.

The song called The Outcome is about the good times and the bad times. It's throwback time down memory lane.

No One To Depend On tells us don't trust nobody but yourself. You just can't trust anyone. Trust yourself. It's mostly about emotional self-reliance. Don't let anyone put you down emotionally. Keep your head up.

It's throwback time down memory lane with I Remember. Lil Rob takes the listener on a trip down memory lane into memories of the past. The lyrics are tight and considered firme. His lyrics are what make this one tight. After all, Lil Rob is best known for his lyrics overall.

MC MC & DJ Clay – Move Yo' Butt single review

MC MC & DJ Clay – Move Yo' Butt was one of the first records that Boomin’ Records ever released. Move Yo Butt was issued as a vinyl single in 1989. It’s electro hip hop with that 80s electronic sound which can be considered subpar by today’s standards in music. As a matter of fact, the single was heavily influenced by the sound of Miami bass.

DJ Clay’s first single is an early product of Flint rap from the late 80s. (As was Take 3, Mix Leather Crew, Touché, RFTW, and MC Breed.) This single was after Take 3, Mix Leather Crew, Touché, Jammin Jay, MC Breed, M.S.#1 (Motivate That Butt), and RTFW released music. (Yeah, the single is Motivate That Butt old.) Only local Flintstone natives know about this record.

The song Move Yo Butt is an early electro hip hop song influenced by the sound of Miami bass. Move Yo Butt samples Afrika Bambaataa - Looking For The Perfect throughout the entirety of the song. DJ Clay produced and programmed the beats. He not only produced the beats but performed raps as well with MC MC. Move Yo Butt is a funky cut to move your butt and dance to. It will make you want to get up and dance.

For those who want to party, get on the floor and dance! MC MC will have you in his trance. It’s time to have a good time. People can’t compete with his raps.

DJ Clay will have you in his trance. So put your mind on freeze and let your body do the work. People can’t compete with his beats or his raps. He’s a sexual intellectual who’s guaranteed to make you feel it. His beats confuse people and bruise them.

MC MC is back on the mic. You’ve heard the DJ’s cuts. All you have to do is move your butt. Rock till you can’t stop. MC MC keeps the party live. Girls, don’t by shy. This is something you groove with. So check this!

Not many people know this, but apparently there was a music video for Move Yo Butt which aired on local cable television station in Flint, Michigan. C Lo D (now Carlito810) was even involved in the music video.

Tear Shit Up (Tear Sh_t Up) is about who is the best in hip hop and rap lyrically speaking. When it comes to lyrics, MC MC and DJ Clay are the best. Tear Shit Up (Tear Sh_t Up) is a song for the suckers. The song uses a simple layer of three instruments. A guitar, a keyboard, and a gong.

Tear Shit Up (Tear Sh_t Up) is a song for the suckers who said MC MC and DJ Clay couldn’t do it. For those who didn’t think DJ Clay would become successful. You couldn’t stop what was already. They have the right to slay other emcees that stand in the way. Face the AK if you don’t want to obey.

They tear shit up. You better prepare for a war. Before you go toe to toe, it’s only fair to let you know they tear shit up. They are violent and a threat to your crew. You better think about it. They are making suckers sweat. No other MC’s will rock the mic lyrically like MC MC or DJ Clay. They motivate the crowd to get wild.

MC MC calls the song Tear Sh_t Up a musical masterpiece by comparing the song to Leonardo da Vinci’s painting of Mona Lisa. He brags about how the lyrics are so great. The beats are perfectly timed in an appropriate manner and the samples are not wack.
