Maroon Town ‎– Fix The Future album review

Maroon Town ‎– Fix The Future was one of the lesser known Maroon Town albums that got overlooked. However that is not too surprising since these songs had already been released by the time One World dropped. This album was self-released in 1992 around the same time their self-titled cassette single was released. The sound is slightly fractured.

Prince of Peace is a song about a prince named Peace who is on a mission to spread peace across the world. The song has an amiable vibe.

The Prince of Peace comes from the East. The Prince of Peace is walking around under cover. Nobody knows so nobody tells anyone about the Prince of Peace. He's on a mission to find peace with no opposition. That is the ultimate ambition for him. Dedication is his will. Prince of Peace is very benevolent.

He wears the crown. Born a prince to become a king. The quest of peace is for what he searches for. Although life is not glistening, you get out what you are putting in. He's got the brains, he's got the will and skill. Love and peace are his mission to fulfill. We are still not learning to correct our mistakes from. The Prince of Peace is the only chance. Come make a change with the Prince of Peace.

There's a voice in the air and it's blowing from the East. It’s The Prince of Peace. Come take a stand with the Prince of Peace. Everybody must be free.

Man in the Street has a vibe of uncertainty and foreboding. The song is about a man who a crook that has been standing around on the street all day. The song definitely has a sinister vibe, feeling, and tone.

There's a man in the street looking like a freak. Who is he going to meet? This man has been standing there all day long. What the hell that man is planning? What exactly is going on? So many questions that need so many answers. It makes you wonder. All day long he's been standing alone. Who is he going to meet?

Take a glance. Those burning eyes wouldn't surprise anyone if he were a crook. Leather gloves are on his hands. Is he a murdering man? He could be freewheeling.

Somebody is approaching and you know he's seen them coming. He puts his hand into his pocket and pulls out some money. A quick exchange for a packet of sorts.

Nostalgia is an alto saxophone driven reggae ska song with a rhythm. The song is about those good times of the past people once had. You see we're speaking of Nostalgia.

Whatever happened to the 60s when the world was hip? You boogied down to the Stones and the Beatles. You used to lay in the park and relax. Perhaps light up a joint and listen to Rhythm & Blues. That's nostalgia. Do you remember when you used to go bopping? You would sit back down to watch Batman and Robin. All those silly crazy things that you thought you were doing.

Trendy people flashing their loot, materialistic possessions, and flashy clothing. Chelsea boots, mohawks, and mohair suits. Getting down to the funky sound of the one and only James Brown. Mods and Rockers having fights. Out of their heads on Brighton Beach. Zooming around on your Vespa bike. Talk about the Go Go beat. Twist and shout. Stomp your feet. Crazy colours, kaleidoscope blue.

Maroon Town - Don Drummond album review

Are You Ready is a song that pays a reverent tribute to African culture and African music. The song follows a traditional African sound with the beats and percussion. African vibes can be heard all throughout the song. The spirit is strong in this song. This song is good for spiritual healing.

All generations love the sounds of African music whether they are aware of that or not. The traditional style of African music and vibes are what appeal to them. Vibes, beats, and rhythm are what make people happy. People also love the old school feeling African music gives. African music has flavour. So once in a while you find a style that is so appealing.

These lyrics pay a reverent tribute to African culture and African music.

Because positive direction where we coming from
Ancestors you know A. F . R . rican
So fix up your movement fix up your plan

Maroon Town calls out new wave ska bands for having clout. Specifically third wave ska bands. Study these lyrics to understand.

Clarendon Calling is different from the other songs included on this album as it is one of their darker songs that has an ominous vibe and sound rather than usual chipper songs due to the lyrics. Read the lyrics to the song to get a better understanding. The details of this song are not too sparse.

Let me take you to a place
I know Where no plants nor trees there grow
Where the beach is black, where the sky is grey
And the force of life just fades away
Come on baby take my hand
Let me lead you through this troubled land
Where the rain clouds swell like a storm from hell
And the force of life just fades away
You're just fading

This troubled land is a place where no plants nor trees grow. The beach is black and the sky is grey. Where the rain clouds swell like a storm from hell. The force of life just fades away.Clarendon Calling is a song that has an ominous vibe.

Innocent Mind is one of those songs which represents oblivion and innocence. This song is more ebullient than Clarendon Calling.

Part of your mindset is still innocent and oblivious. Your innocent mind still cares and is still there. Follow what you're feeling and you'll get there.

Now your family is crying. It seems you gave up trying to care. And now you're deep in your confusion. No one is there to comfort you with uplifting words of comfort. But your innocent mind still cares. If you look you will find it there. This world in all its madness has got you always running away from reality. And you can fall into oblivion until you can face yourself one day. You'll be flying high all evening, but morning leaves you feeling despair.

Sierra is a story tale about a man who goes off on a journey to a far away land called Sierra. The style this song was written is similar to sea shanties. The ban seems to be reverent to sea shanties. There’s quite an ethnic fusion going on here. The details of this song are not too sparse.

A man goes on a journey to visit a far away land called Sierra. This journey of his ranges from explorations of kinds to discover treasures of life by traveling through arid dusty roads over mountains through ramshackle jungles. He is seeing all kinds of creatures in the mountains and down below. It was hot in the mountains and cold down below. Unfortunately however, the material things he had brought were of no use. He had to leave them behind.

He heard about a legend from a crazy old fool at a bar. Of the city of gold deep in the jungle, he called it piety. Philosophy or whether treasures could be found. Left by some Indians after genocide.

He went on into the jungle in search of this gold by going on a quest. Here is the rhapsodic moment of the song. He fell into slumber by the waterfall by the time he was deep into his quest. He woke up to find himself surrounded by a strange feral land. And in the midst of the land was she. She was beautiful. She danced to the groove and she sang a song.

This lady changed him as a person. She brought him back to life. She took him into her arms and he fell into a spell. For days and nights he danced grooving to her sound. He left that wicked place he discovered. That behind every man there's a skeleton. So he escaped from the rich and the poor. He turned rich and strong. Be careful which road you choose is the message of this song.

Syd Arthur - Sound Mirror album review

Syd Arthur - Sound Mirror is a psychedelic rock album with a unique sound similar to alternative rock which the band seems to be indulgent in. Fans of classic psychedelia will enjoy the sounds coming from this album. This album takes you on a meandering journey thru rock music. The front cover is a picture of an ornate circle in monochrome carved into a concrete slab.

Hometown Blues is a piano driven psychedelic rock song with instrumentation from Syd Arthur. Many people will consider this song enchanting as their sound and style is so enchanting. Singularity is an instrumental played in free-form. The band seems to have been freewheeling on this song. Now this instrumental is laced with that psychedelic rock sound. Singularity serves as sort of a highlight for this album.

Various Artists - Dark Angel: The Original Tv Series Soundtrack album review

Dark Angel: The Original Tv Series Soundtrack is one of those TV soundtracks that offers some of the best in pop music and that has been sort of forgotten. Artists from Kelis, Khia, MC Lyte, Samantha Cole, to Abstract Rude are featured on the album.

Public Enemy And MC Lyte perform raps on the Dark Angel Theme song. MC Lyte has not lost her touch when it comes to rapping. MC Lyte’s song was used as the theme song for the Dark Angel TV show for 2 years.

Club 2G was produced by Missy Elliott and re-recorded in 2000. Nicole Wray, Missy Elliott, and Naam are featured this song. Nicole Wray is featured in the chorus with Pam Olivia. Club 2G is similar to Supa Star in terms of mood and theme. Club 2G was featured on the television show Dark Angel in 2000. Many Dark Angel fans will recognize this song due to its dark but soulful nature.

Dance music meets soul and hip hop/rap. Missy Elliott and Lil Mo do the rapping portion of the song. Missy Elliott is all over this track as she was with 5 Minutes and Starstruck. Missy adlibs on it.

Supa Star was featured on the television show Dark Angel in 2001. The song was used as the main theme for a short time. Many Dark Angel fans will recognize this song due to its soulful nature. Supa Star is about who is the hottest, who has the most material things in their possession, and who’s car is the flyest. Who shows the most shit? Who talks the most shit? Everybody wants to be a supa star.

Supa Star is about why Lil Mo wants to break the cycle of poverty and make it out of the ghetto. She is caught up in a ghetto state of mind and wants to get out of here.

It’s everyday talk in the ghetto. Ghetto is a state of mind. Do we ever think about will we really make it? It comes from the pressure in these videos and radio. Lil Mo is caught up in a ghetto state of mind and just trying to get the hell outta here.

Everybody wants to shine every and to live the life. Everybody wants to go where every body knows their name and to see their name in bright lights. It’s a misconception that material things can make someone a star.

Glenn Miller - The Glenn Miller Story : The Film album review

Glenn Miller - The Glenn Miller Story : The Film is more like a soundtrack since it's for a film. The most well known Jazz hit songs by Glenn Miller on this compilation album are Moonlight Serenade, American Patrol, Tuxedo Junction, St. Louis Blues, a String of Pearls, Little Brown Jug, and In The Mood. The style of this album is performed in musical hall.

The Glenn Miller Story is easily told in just 8 compositional songs. Every song is unique by popular music standards and jazz standards. His success story is truly unique. He created the "Miller standards" in jazz music that are still currently used to this day. These tunes have been wisely chosen by RCA. Glenn Miller had considered these tunes special indeed.

Moonlight Serenade is a special jazz composition piece for couples to waltz to slowly to at night during Cotillion ball or a ballroom dance. Moonlight Serenade is the best-remembered theme of modern vintage jazz. The jazz song Moonlight Serenade is an extremely splendid single. Moonlight Serenade a Top Ten hit on the U.S. pop charts in 1939 while reaching onto the BillBoard charts.

Louis Armstrong & His Big Band - On the Sunny Side of the Street album review

Louis Armstrong & His Big Band - On the Sunny Side of the Street is perfect example of Dixieland jazz which had originated from the days of early jazz. The sounds of early jazz leave much to be desired by jazz fans. Some of the songs seem improvisatory as the album was compiled together by his label. Similar to modal music. Now this album is one of the harder albums to find from Louis Armstrong online or offline. The rarity of this album is a product of interest for jazz fans. The album has 25 original recordings.

Paper Doll features The Mills Brothers as guest stars on the clarinet section. That is the other highlight for this album.

Louis Armstrong plans to but a paper doll her can call his own. A doll that other fellows cannot steal. This paper doll has flirty eyes. She will be waiting for him when he comes home. She’ll be the most loyal doll in the world from his perspective and outlook.

He’d rather have a paper doll to call his own than have a fickle minded real live girl in the flesh. 2D is better then 3D because 2D never betrays you. That is what the stunning lyrics “Will have to flirt with dollies that are real/She'll be the truest doll in all this world” stand for. He has more than a million dolls.

However the relationship with his paper doll did not last very long. He quarreled with Sue and is now blue. She's gone away and left him just like all dolls do. It’s tough to be alone. It’s tough to love a doll that's not your own. He is through with all those paper dolls.

The song On the Sunny Side of the Street does have lyrics as people would have you believe. Louis Armstrong performed by playin the trumpet by. The song is backed by a trumpet instrumental. This is some of the best from jazz virtuoso Louis Armstrong.

The lyrics to the song tell us to look at the bright side when things are getting grim. Leave your worries behind.

Grab your coat and grab your hat baby
Leave your worries on the doorstep
Just direct your feet
On the sunny side of the street

Can't you hear that pitter-pat there?
That happy tune is yours now
Life can be so sweet
On the sunny side of the street

I used to walk in the shade
With those blues on parade
But I'm not afraid baby
My rover, crossed over

If I never have a cent
I'll be rich as Rockefeller
With gold dust at my feet
On the sunny side of the street

Rose Room features clarinetist Barney Bigard and Gil Cuppini on drums. Barney Bigard takes control of most of this song with his clarinet. The song is performed in a musical hall style.

J-Reale ‎– Under Cover album review

J-Reale ‎– Under Cover is one of the underrated overlooked R&B albums that came out of Houston, Texas during the 90s. This album is smooth and sultry in nature as every single song on here is a love ballad. Indie R&B at its finest. Not too monastic. Sadly this was one of the albums distributed by Southwest Wholesale that was a victim of lack of promotion. So not many copies of this album exist. That is why J-Reale was never able to find success.

Kerry "Smokey" Douglas and Richard "Big Daddy" Simpson served as executive producers on his album. Jhiame produced the songs 69 Sexercise and Midnight Aliby. Jhiame and J-Reale were label mates.

Now the cassette version of this album, the A side is the FREAKY SIDE and the B side is the UNDA COVER SIDE. The CD version of this album does not have these titles listed. Instead the A side and B side are divided into two sections with 4 songs on each side totaling to 8 songs.

Are You Down (Part II) serves as a follow-up and continuation of R U Down from his 1993 album Just In Tyme. The instrumentation and sound are different on this version. This version is more freaky than the original. Are you down with a player like J-Reale?

Do Ya (Part II) serves as a follow-up and continuation of Do Ya from his 1993 album Just In Tyme. Although the tempo is the same, the duration is slightly longer. Both versions of Do Ya feature the R&B group Xplicit. Funk meets R&B on Do Ya (Part II). This is one of those good songs which brings back good memories from the first time you had sexual intercourse to when you were in college. Truly a sultry slow tempo banger.

Can I Hit It is the uptempo number produced by Crazy C, Kerry Douglas, and Jhiame. That song follows a rhythm.  Can I Hit It featured the most underrated rap group out of H-Town called Tha Mad Scientists. The talent on this song was undeniable.

Reeko Knight and J Reale sung a beautiful harmony on the sultry but intimate song G-String. The song is perfect for the bedroom.

I Care For You is a heartfelt delicate song dedicated to someone you love. Finding love is something for you. You care about that person you love. Crazy C produced I Care For You at Ultimate Sounds Studios where the song was recorded. Mikki Blue played the synths.

69 Sexercise is the sexual version of Jazzercise. Think Jazzercise but with sex. Jhiame produced the entire song himself without any help from outside producers or in-house producers.

John Zorn - String Quartets album review

John Zorn - String Quartets is an avant-garde classical album filled with beautiful chamber music with a sophisticated sound which classical music fans will enjoy. A string quartet performs on a majority of the song off this album of his. Now not all of the songs are perfect or have longevity. Most of these songs are less than a minute long in the short run. Some of these songs completely off key and the instruments need adjusting as to sound so off key or off balance.

Cat O' Nine Tails is a beautiful chamber music combo which consists of a string quartet where the instrumentation is composed of two violins, a viola, and cello. This instrumentation arrangement is not unusual because the most characteristic form is the string quartet (two violins, viola, and cello). The song has a creeping intimate vibe that is met with a sound of uncertainty and climax.

Folio is one of the more uptempo songs due to the pitch and tones of which the violins are played. The violins are played in such a brusque manner. The song is a modern composition.

Rondo is a short repulsive viola instrumental. Honestly the viola sounds much untuned, fractured, and very distorted. The sound coming those violas will definitely make you cringe. One can see why this song would be considered as an “avant-garde” song.

Nocturne has a foreboding dark vibe with a grim sound due to the enigmatic sound. A percussion ensemble can be heard at the end of this song which is actually a pair of bongos. That creaking sound is enough to make want to cringe uncomfortably. That sound is unsettling to many people’s ears.
