Cajmere ‎– Dreaming EP EP review

Cajmere ‎– Dreaming EP was an overlooked house EP that was released on the highly favored, well reputable deep house label Cajual Records outta Chicago, Illinois in 1992. House heads slept on this release. You have a mixture of deep house and dance which meet the relaxing ambient sounds of trance music on this EP.

House meets trance on Brighter Days (Underground Trance). Not too many people know this but Brighter Days (Underground Trance) was one of the several hit singles Cajmere and Dajae recorded that peaked on the American Dance Charts. Brighter Days (Underground Trance) peaked at #2 on the American Dance Charts and stayed in that position for 2 weeks. Brighter Days (Underground Trance) is not only a Chicago house classic but a Baltimore classic as well. This was the version that had you on the dance floor in a "trance".

Dream States has an exceptional bassline that is well memorable. This song will have on the dance floor in a "trance" also. You know what they say. There’s nothing like 90’s house. Derrick Carter and Cajmere created something special with this song as you can feel the true essence of house music with this song of theirs.

DJ Smash ‎– Presents The Party Platter EP EP review

DJ Smash ‎– Presents The Party Platter EP was the taste tester and vinyl sampler of/for the full album of DJ Smash ‎– Presents The Party Platter which was released in 1995. DJ Smash ‎– The Party Platter EP is one of the most genuine release from legendary DJ Smash. His sound and style brings a breath of fresh air to music. His DJ and turntablist skills leave much to be desired. Hip hop meets acid jazz on this EP of his. He puts his own spin on this album by using and incorporating different styles of music.

Moodulator uses such a calm relaxing keyboard which fits in with the rhymes sounds and rhythm. This tune will have your head nodding. His puts his own spin on this quality music. The beats are super thick. Jazz meets hip hop on Moodulator.

DJ Smash puts down his own jazzy touches and composition over hip hop beats on the song Gettin' Dizzy. He also blended in an incorporation of trip hop to give the song a try vibe nonetheless. Those beats and jazzy sounds make the song memorable.

You can hear a drum kit over hip hop breakbeats on Say Ow. This is one of the more hip hop oriented cuts on the EP. DJ Smash seemed to have been influenced by the sounds of James Brown, Little Richard, and Simply Red which is why you hear random funk breaks all over the place on Say Ow. The guitar gives away the funk.

George Llanes ‎– Liberated Phunk EP EP review

George Llanes ‎– Liberated Phunk EP uses a blended incorporation of liberal funk over electronic house. Rock meets electronic on this EP as some of the songs use incorporations of rock music. All of the tracks are definitely worth the listen. Although the production is a bit dated, the EP is still a house mover nonetheless.

Ah Ye Yc (Coded Mix) uses an abundance of distorted electronic notes from an electronic keyboard over a bitcrushed and distorted rock guitar. Rock meets electronic on Ah Ye Yc (Coded Mix). A faint organ can be heard in the background if you listen carefully with headphones.

Ah Ye Yc (T.U.F. Bonus) leans more toward that tribal house sound with the mixture of bells and percussion. You can feel the true essence of tribal house here.

Wait A Minute "Shout" uses an abundance of 909 beats overlapping that loud dance styled bass with an electronic touch. A rock guitar is randomly used throughout the duration of this song. This song is definitely a mover on the dance floor. This is true electronic house here.

Vibration uses warped trippy auto-wah effects that will put your mind into a trance. Vibration has dance that will put you in a trance. This song can still do numbers on the dance floor today. Those crunched dance beats are layered underneath those warped trippy auto-wah effects. The treble has been significantly reduced at a brehsive level.

Hustletron ‎– Moog Indigo single review

Hustletron ‎– Moog Indigo is one of the most futuristic acid jazz singles that are/is out of this world! This single is definite must have for any record collector. The single has that jazzy New Breed sound and style since this is a New Breed release. The electronic soundscapes used on this single was futuristic and ahead of time for 1995. Acid jazz meets electronic on this Hustletron single. Hustletron did all the arrangements himself without any outside help.

Jive Vibes uses a calm mixture of acid jazz with a jive vibe. Straight up jazz. However the low treble is what drags the audio/sound quality down from being a high quality song with high quality production. Nevertheless this is still a good acid jazz song.

Moog Indigo uses a funky electronic soundscape over jazzy sounds. Hustletron uses a moog synthesizer to make the song funk. Of course you have that jazzy New Breed sound also. Hustletron did all the arrangements himself without any outside help. The treble has been significantly reduced and is very low. However the low treble is what drags the audio/sound quality down from being a high quality song with high quality production. The low treble is the only downside for this song of his. C-Swing - Urban Kinetics EP EP review

C-Swing - Urban Kinetics EP is a unique mellow downtempo hip hop EP filled with breaks and beats which is a perfect tool for DJs. Sadly this EP is quite difficult to find as this release was pressed up as a limited edition. So buy this EP if you can. British hip hop and R&B producer C-Swing composed a downtempo jazzy EP with some of that British hip hop flavor. Boom Bye Bye is a mid tempo jazzy hip hop song backed by a jazzy horn and heavy boom bap beats. The vibe is slow for a mid tempo jazzy hip hop song though. Angel is one of the more calming songs on the EP laced with an electronic trance sound.

DJ Smash ‎– The Party Platter album review

DJ Smash ‎– The Party Platter is one of the most genuine release from legendary DJ Smash. His sound and style brings a breath of fresh air to music. His DJ and turntablist skills are desirable. Hip hop meets acid jazz on this album of his. That makes perfect sense and is not surprising since is a New Breed release. You know, New Breed Records, "New Breed a new generation of sound”. He puts his own spin on this album by using and incorporating different styles of music. Highlights for this album include Bassanova, Moodulator, Jumpin' Ritmo, and Gettin' Dizzy.

Bassanova is mixture of bossanova jazz and hip hop. This style of jazz follows a different beat than your typical jazz. This song follows the syncopation of traditional samba. You can feel and hear a Nujabes vibe when you listen to this song.

Moodulator uses such a calm relaxing keyboard which fits in with the rhymes sounds and rhythm. This tune will have your head nodding. His puts his own spin on this quality music. The beats are super thick. Jazz meets hip hop on Moodulator.

Jumpin' Ritmo uses a hodgepodge of hip hop breakbeats and electronic jazz breaks. The breaks are what make this song memorable.

You can hear a drum kit over hip hop breakbeats on Say Ow. This is one of the more hip hop oriented cuts on the album. Lounge Mode uses a laid back lounge jazz sound perfect for the lounge or a nightclub. The song follows some jazzy beats. Overall this song is an underrated gem.

Daktari uses a fusion of tribal house and breakbeats. Notice the Afrocentric beats DJ Smash uses. Say Ow is a funky upbeat uptempo hip hop song where funk meets hip hop.

The Uptown Funksters ‎– Headsounds EP EP review

The Uptown Funksters ‎– Headsounds EP is an underrated and overlooked house EP which house heads highly slept on.  Both Duro, Bembe, and Free Spirit are highlights off the EP. The EP is quite loud as the production quality and sound quality were set to high quality. Duro, Bembe, and Free Spirit are example of where high production quality and high sound quality are used.

Duro uses some warped trippy auto-wah effects with the didgeridoo. The didgeridoo was randomly placed throughout the duration of this song. Now this song is quite memorable due to the didgeridoo which was used. Duro is the highlight of this EP. There is a sweeping drop at the 3:14 duration mark which manifests into a feeling of uncertainty. A set of bongos are used after that drop.

Givin' You is not exactly a highlight of electronic music. Some of the musical key notes are off key as some of the flat notes♭don’t match up with the randomly placed synths and keys throughout the songs. The A ♭ don’t match the B♭. The producer could have lowered a note by two semitones.

Free Spirit divulges into a more techno-based oriented soundscape that sounds quite futuristic even for 1995. The bass is what makes this song more funky and danceable.

Bembe uses more Afroncentric style drums and beats programmed similarly to Duro. Now the high-pitched whiny violin was sampled from Lil Louis & The World - I Called U (A Series Of Events) and Lil Louis & The World - I Called U (The Story Continues).

The Khromozomes ‎– Buttermilk Biscuits EP EP review

The Khromozomes ‎– Buttermilk Biscuits EP is a prestigious masterpieces of trip hop and jazz. The sound is similar to Nujabes and Five Deez. The EP has that dope jazzy and groovy mid-90's underground street sound. Not to mention vibe. Not surprising since this vinyl EP was released by the New Breed label. New Breed releases never fail to disappoint. The release is similar to  Khromozomes ‎– The Sugar Cuts.

The L is one of the prestigious masterpieces from producers The Khromozomes recorded during the mid-90’s. The beats and bass are jazzy of course.

I'm Straight is another one of the prestigious masterpieces recorded by The Khromozomes during the mid-90’s which unfortunately got overlooked and overshadowed. The song has a warm hazy vibe.

Orpheus has that dope laid back jazzy sound and vibe due to the upright bass and xylophones which are used. Orpheus has that Boom Bap feeling also. Fans of old school hip hop and rap will definitely enjoy listening to Orpheus.

Lunar Deep ‎– Games single review

Lunar Deep ‎– Games is one of the lesser know New Breed releases that is considerably obscure and difficult to find. Similar to how The Bedroom Boys ‎– Work, Dirty Fingaz ‎– Crime Scene, C-Swing - Urban Kinetics EP, Nutsek - Dust To Dust EP, Hustletron ‎– Son Of Hustletron EP, and Hustletron ‎– Other Sounds, Other Worlds EP are obscure and difficult to find anywhere. The obscurity and rarity of this New Breed vinyl single is what makes the single so interesting and appealing. The types of tunes found on this single are very hard and rare to find! Overall Lunar Deep ‎– Games is one of the more obscure releases and singles from the New Breed label which is quite difficult to find. Sadly not else much is known about this New Breed release.

Lunar Deep ‎– Games was released as a vinyl single sometime in/around 2002. Now Lunar Deep ‎– Games was released on vinyl only.

Now Lunar Deep ‎– Games is one of the electronic releases that was much different from the other singles because this single did not use any jazz or hip hop/rap incorporations, breaks, or scratches anywhere. Lunar Deep ‎– Games uses broken beats and abstract trip hop sounds. Lunar Deep ‎– Games is quite similar to the electronic single The Bedroom Boys ‎– Work which was also released on the New Breed label. The New Breed label seldomly ever released any electronic releases aside from Hustletron, Groovilicious, and those Fat Jazzy Grooves compilations issued throughout the 1990s.

Hustletron ‎– Other Sounds, Other Worlds EP EP review

Hustletron ‎– Other Sounds, Other Worlds EP is another one of the lesser know New Breed releases that is considerably obscure and difficult to find. The obscurity and rarity of this New Breed vinyl EP is what makes the EP so interesting and appealing. Of course the Hustletron ‎– Other Sounds, Other Worlds EP is just as obscure and rare as the Lunar Deep ‎– Games single is.

Hustletron ‎– Other Sounds, Other Worlds EP was released as a vinyl single sometime in/around 1998. Now Hustletron ‎– Other Sounds, Other Worlds EP was released on vinyl only. There was no CD pressing for this release.

This Hustletron release has some dope breakbeats over jazzy hip hop and electronic sounds. He also added in some elements of trip hop and funk to the mix. He also incorporated the sounds of soul music in this EP of his which is quite unusual.

Various ‎– Sounds Of The Urban Jungle single review

Various ‎– Sounds Of The Urban Jungle is a unique New Breed release because this New Breed release was a tribal house single. New Breed hardly ever released any tribal house music because the label’s primary focus was on releasing jazz and hip hop records. Anyway this breathtaking tribal house single is worth the listen. The Sounds Of The Urban Jungle leave much to be desired. Wetribe - Hard On has a tribal groove over a heavenly strong Afrocentric rhythm. It is inane how this heavily slept on this song was back in the day. D-Grinders - Koka uses a barrage Afrocentric tribal beats and house sounds.

Jovonn ‎– Underground Construction EP EP review

Jovonn ‎– Underground Construction EP is one of the lesser sought Jovonn EPs people hardly known about and have slept on. This EP has been shamefully overlooked. The highlights for this Jovonn EP include Erson's Keys and Be Free '92.

Erson's Keys has some infectious claps, warped electronic upright bass, and rhythmic house beats. The insane MIDI flute melody is what makes Erson's Keys so rhythmic, intoxicating, and compelling to listen to. This song is one of Jovonn’s golden tunes that has been sadly overlooked by many. Erson's Keys is with listening to.

Construction is one of the more quieter and luscious lush songs off the EP. The song uses an electronic style jazzy saxophone solo over rhythmic shakers.

You can hear the legendary Jovonn at work with his production techniques and styles on Be Free '92. The song uses a smokey harmonic electro organ over infectious handclaps. This song is another one of Jovonn’s golden tunes that has been and was sadly overlooked by many.

Sound Mechanix ‎– Outer Thoughts EP EP review

Sound Mechanix ‎– Outer Thoughts EP is one of the most abstract and ambient masterpieces of house music out there. The EP is truly breathtaking, rhythmic, and angelic. You Got, Melting Pot, along with Adam Said, are the highlights for this EP.

You Got relies heavily on 909 beats and muffled cymbals over a dance floor styled synths. The kick drum and bass are what give this Sound Mechanix song a ‘kick’. You Got samples Teddy Pendergrass - You Got What I Need.

You can hear deep house vibes on the song I'm For Real with the repeating vocal sample, loud thunderous kicks, and diluted bass.

Adam Said is such a brilliant track. Any house heads out there will love this track. Upright bass notes play over an electronic soundscape. The upright bass notes what give this electronic track a jazzy edge and feeling. Seriously deep house vibes can be heard on the song Adam Said. The emotions felt and heard on this track are indescribable.

Melting Pot is a smokey rhythmic house track backed by a pair of congas and several layers worth of instrumentation. A set of congas and bongos can be heard playing throughout the song. The hodgepodge of instrumentation is what makes the song great and definitely worth listening to. Melting Pot is a highlight off the EP.

Melting Pot took its name from Booker T. & The M.G.'s ‎– Melting Pot. Sound Mechanix were inspired by the sounds and production style from Booker T. & The M.G.'s when the song Melting Pot was composed. The song title says it all.

Jovonn ‎– The Goldhouse EP EP review

Jovonn ‎– The Goldhouse EP is a showcase and representation of Jovonn’s golden tunes. Most of which have been sadly overlooked. This EP has been criminally overlooked. The highlights for this Jovonn EP are the upbeat groovy Don't Wanna Let U Go and golden Pianos Of Gold. Jovonn went a different route musically with this EP as he divulged into garage house instead of just solely focusing on or relying only on deep house. That is what makes this EP different, interesting, and compelling to listen to.

Pianos Of Gold is one of Jovonn’s golden tunes which has been sadly overlooked by many and is only known by few. The upbeat tempo, sublime vibe, and golden piano chords are what put you in a good mood. This is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood.

Those piano chords are exactly what made Pianos Of Gold a definitive memorable house hit and golden tune from Jovonn. Those piano chords are what make Pianos Of Gold a golden tune from Jovonn. Beauty of piano chords is something that can be magically felt and heard through the sound of music.

Don't Wanna Let U Go uses a thickened loud kick drum over muffled diluted bass. The definition of this song is deep because this song uses a deep groove. You can feel the groove as you dance along to this song. This golden tune is a pure house classic. This is one of Jovonn’s golden tunes which has been sadly overlooked by many. The fact that this song of his has been overlooked is just plain criminal because this is great house music overall.

Don't Wanna Let U Go samples bass lines from Lil Louis & The World - Nyce & Slo and flute keys from Soul IV Real - Candy Rain.

Back 2 The House is quite loud but not as memorable as Pianos Of Gold and Don't Wanna Let U Go were. That is because the song did not use any samples and relied on garage house instead which is not a bad thing.

Various ‎– Mad Jazzy Flavors single review

The single Various ‎– Mad Jazzy Flavors has some of the phattest most downtempo jazzy hip hop sounds with a tinge of trip hop. All three songs are worth the listen. Hip hop heads will not want to miss out on the opportunity to own this New Breed vinyl single. You can’t go wrong with vinyl singles from the New Breed Records label. Sounds from this single will automatically remind you of Golden Era hip hop. Gotta love that real hip hop shit!

ADL - Daddy is one of the phattest most definitely dope hip hop songs off this single! You definitely do not want to miss out on or skip this song. This is one hard hip hop track. Who knew Swedish hip hop could be this dope?

The girls call ADL “Daddy”. The girls call him daddy because he’s got it going on. His clothes get torn every time he rocks a show. He knows all the tactics. ADL has the phattest kick known to mankind. He puts up a fight like a knight in Cesar’s palace. Everything he does is totally taboo. He’s a smooth daddy.

ADL plays the cards with an open hand. So don’t try to deceive him. He can get the skins. So don’t worry or be afraid. You’re getting what you came for. ADL will leave you all shook up like Elvis. Momma’s little boy was a dirty little devil. Too many pornography flicks took his ass to another level. Everything he does is totally taboo. He’s a smooth daddy.

Falcon - Oh My God is one raw jazzy hip hop instrumental. Word cannot describe how good this song really is. Jazz Not Jazz - Move Y'All is another one of those raw jazzy hip hop instrumentals. Elements of bebop jazz are added to the song.

New Harlem Sound ‎– Organik Mechanix EP EP review

New Harlem Sound ‎– Organik Mechanix EP has some of the most heavenly urban style downtempo jazzy hip hop ever known and heard. You can tell by listening to the production. Here on this EP, the production was all organic and not mass produced by not just only using electronic machines but using live instrumentation also. Everyone can dig that “New Harlem Sound” heard on this EP!

1-2-5 (125th Street) pays an ode and tribe to the Harlem neighborhood and towards New York City jazz. Those xylophone notes are what give this song a definitive nice edge. The song has an old school jazz vibe and fat vibe. Lamont Caldwell plays the swinging rhythmic saxophone. D-Smooth puts a spin on those scratches.

The song Chocolate is known for using such brooding downtempo jazzy upright bass. Similar to what you would hear in bossa nova jazz. Those piano chords are pure perfection. Static coming from the production gives the song an old school edge and vibe. Not to mention old school jazz vibe and edge. You can feel a portion of melancholic lament as the song sound very much similar to a genuine tear-jerker. Chocolate was produced by Arty Davis. D-Smooth puts a spin on those scratches. Chocolate was also used on the compilation Fat Jazzy Grooves Volume 15.

Abstract Condition also uses a filtered riveting flute solo. A flittering saxophone solo is performed throughout the entirety of this song which is what gives this song relaxing celestial jazzy vibe similar to bossa nova jazz. Abstract Condition can be found on the compilation "Loungin' 2: Funky Jazz For The Cool Set".

Hustletron ‎– Stereo Viewer album review

Hustletron ‎– Stereo Viewer uses a collection of drenched jazz samples and electronic soundscapes with moog synthesizers and beat machines fairly advanced for 1996. The electronic soundscapes used were futuristic and ahead of their time. Half the album is jazz while the other portion uses a bit of funk and electronic. Hustletron (Hal Lee) helped bring a new generation of sound to the New Breed label in 1996 with DJ Smash and Groovilicious.

Psychomatic uses a unique sound as the uses acid jazz, future jazz, and psychedelic funk. A moog synthesizer is used to make the song funky. You will think of 70s funk and 70s jazz when you listen this song. Most of the bass is played in B major flat. Psychomatic was featured on the From Fat Jazzy Grooves Vol. 10 compilation.

Notice how a bit of dinner ambiance is used in the background. There is chatter going on as well. The chatter blends in perfectly with the dinner ambiance. Timestamps for those horn drops are at 1:40 and 2:43. Those horn drops are what make the song jazzy. Those horn drops are played in an ensemble fashion as quadruple layers of horns are used.

Jive Vibes uses a calm mixture of acid jazz with a jive vibe. Straight up jazz. However the low treble is what drags the audio/sound quality down from being a high quality song with high quality production. Nevertheless this is still a good acid jazz song.

Acid Raindance uses acid jazz with an electronic soundscape drenched in rain over super chilled out sounds. Added to the electronic soundscape are some Afrocentric beats and techno beats. This is a highlight and the best song off the album.

Indigo Groove uses upbeat acid jazz sounds over medium bass. The songs serves as an example of straight up jazz. Indigo Groove was featured on the From Fat Jazzy Grooves Vol. 10 compilation in 1995.

Leisure Suit is one of the slower songs which uses a tempo of 81 BPM. The bass is super low and the beats are thick as downtempo acid jazz is used. Jive Vibes uses a calm mixture of acid jazz with a jive vibe. Straight up jazz.

Lo Key ‎– Test My Nutz album review

Lo Key ‎– Test My Nutz one of the low quality gems of Memphis rap that is very much overlooked. This is one of the coldest cuts outta Memphis. That’s not surprising since Lo Key is Tommy Wright III’s cousin. M.B.D. did produce some of the beats and drum patterns. This album uses some of the some of the best drum patterns in Memphis rap. Lo Key uses triplets with natural progression over slower beats.

Shawty Pimp - H. A. N. album review

Shawty Pimp - H. A. N. uses some simple beats which are the hardest beats you will have ever heard. The beats are quite dark and sparse. There is not too much distance or white noise between beats. The beats are simple overall. You don't need a big studio to make some raw shit like this. However there seems to be a timbre in his vocals as some of the audio is unbalanced. This album is dope despite the low quality production. In fact the low quality production what makes this album legendary and grimey.

Take ‎– Pieces From The Puzzle single review

The Take ‎– Pieces From The Puzzle single is a downtempo electronic with chill trip hop vibes. The single uses some high quality production and sound. Buttermilk Records always seemed to have used these very chill etherial beats. Any fans of downtempo electronic music will want to purchase this single. Take ‎– Pieces From The Puzzle singles is one of the most overlooked electronic of 2003.

Looking For Life uses an urban edge of hip hop sounds and beats. All the beats were produce by Take himself. This song uses a futuristic electronic soundscape similar to a sci-fi movie. Hip hop meets electronic on Looking For Life.

Further on uses such loud riveting bass that will rumble your speakers. So will those powerful chords. A tambourine is used underneath those powerful chords. The song heavily relies on an electric guitar, a piano, and a tambourine. The instrumentation of this song is simple.

L.A.T. is one of Take’s most memorable and favorable songs to date. The song uses a classy mellow piano solo that is well memorable. A jazzy saxophone solo is also what makes this song memorable. The beats are also what makes this song nice. Now the number of instruments used on this song are remarkable. Several layers of instrumentation are used on this Take song. Here the song uses very chill etherial beats behind a triple layer of shakers and a piano.

Now some of you have been listening to this song from the Scion CD Sampler V.8 - Beat Constructors Past Present, And Future that was given out for free at the Scion display during the 2004 International Auto Show in San Francisco, California. I know I have.

Olorun ‎– Moruroa EP review

Olorun ‎– Moruroa is a tribal deep techno EP engulfed with very mysterious sounds with an incredibly rousing rhythm with an ambient mood. The ambient mood of this EP is what makes this EP so relaxing, enticing, and hypnotizing. This EP is quite futuristic even for 2019. The EP Olorun ‎– Moruroa was released as a digital download in FLAC format at a stereo rate of 44.1 kHz with bit rate of 24 bit.

Yuki uses such rhythm percussion and drums over loud thumping bass that is quite ambient and relaxing. The song is hypnotic and relaxing due to the deep ambient bass drums, and percussion.

A didgeridoo is used throughout the duration of Kodo. Use of the didgeridoo is what makes the song ethereal, hypnotic, and relaxing. Any song which has a didgeridoo is quite captivating and compelling to listen to. That is factual. Kodo is ambient due to the percussion, drums, didgeridoo, and bass. Not to mention various sound effects.

The nighttime wildlife provides a forestry background on Moruroa thus making this song into a tribal deep techno song. The song is just as relaxing as Yuki and Kodo are.

Wahono ‎– Abandoned Hi-Hats EP review

Wahono ‎– Abandoned Hi-Hats is an abstract minimalist masterpiece of techno filled with hi-hats, crunched synths, and numerous sound effects hence the title. This is leftfield electronic music with futuristic beats. Sampling of folk instruments and synths are organically intertwined with each other. That is where those complex sound collages come from. Wahono has created a challenging but infectious sound all of his own. All of the EP was mastered by Joe LaPorta himself without any outside help or other in-house producers. Techno and electronic music meet jazz since this is a Maddjazz Recordings ‎release. Who knew that experimental leftfield electronic music from Indonesia could be so infectious and captivating to listen to?

Wahono ‎– Abandoned Hi-Hats was released on vinyl, streaming, and as a digital download in 2017. Now the vinyl edition was printed and pressed in limited edition as only 250 copies were issued out. That is why Wahono ‎– Abandoned Hi-Hats was limited to 250 copies. The digital download was released on the Maddjazz bandcamp page in MP3 and FLAC format for both streaming and download for a price of $5 dollars. Wahono ‎– Abandoned Hi-Hats was the first release on the independent label Maddjazz Recordings out of New York City, New York, US.

The title track, Abandoned Hi-Hats, was Hats is an abstract minimalist masterpiece of techno filled with hi-hats crunched synths and numerous sound effects hence the title. You will hear various distorted electronic chords and keys used throughout the song. A handful of shakers are used simultaneously. The title track is sure relaxing.

Stonewheels uses deep tribal techno based drums and percussion over quiet mellow lush static background noise. Stonewheels is just as relaxing as the title track is. However there is an intensity buildup at the 1:25 duration mark of this song. This is where the song starts to get a bit more intense as that is where more layers of instruments begin being used. A set of hi-hats and electronic chords are used here. There are other buildups within this song. The other buildups begin at the 3:08 duration mark and the 3:48 duration mark.

Necksnaps is bit more intense and hypnotic than the other 2 songs that are on this EP as those electronic chords are played at a faster rate. A tinge of trip hop is used over a soundscape of leftfield electronics which are very infectious and captivating to listen to.

Adam X ‎– Snapped EP EP review

The Adam X ‎– Snapped EP is a more drums n bass based EP than just a techno EP. This Adam X EP doesn’t solely rely on electronic techno. It’s nice to hear something different from Adam X. Road Rage is a drums n bass styled techno track. Notice the bass music. This one is a house mover. You can hear the heavy electro elements used in this song. There is hint of electronic bass intensity used. Snapped Again is another one of those drums n bass styled techno track you rarely hear from Adam X. This one is a slow jam.

Adam X ‎– Welcome To The Sonic Groove (SG 01) album review

Adam X ‎– Welcome To The Sonic Groove (SG 01) uses some of the darkest acid techno sounds known to mankind. This is old school techno music from a time when techno was fresh. This is underground extremist hardcore techno many old school techno lovers will definitely enjoy and savor. This album was released on cassette only in the NYC area in 1995 in limited numbers. So yes this album is a limited edition album. This banger of a tape from Adam X is one of the legendary Sonic Groove/Eastbound Underground series. Many Adam X fans call this album a “this brutal epic underground extremist hardcore techno mix”.

Riccardo Rochhi - Acid Pill is an example of early acid techno with those 909 beats, handclaps, warpy electronic synths. The song is addicting and annoying at the same token. So chill and take an acid pill.  The buildups for this song begin at 2:29 and 3:48. Now this song is much deeper than you usual deep techno song or any other acid techno song.

Mike Dearborn sweeps the dance floor with his song called Sweep The Floor next after Acid Pill. It’s a mixture of electronic dance and acid techno on one composition. Now this song is much deeper than you usual deep techno song or any other acid techno song. A handful of 303 beats and 909 synths are used throughout this song. Not to mention 909 beats.

Freddie Fresh & Tim Taylor - Scissorhands Missile 10 comes ripping in on a centered crossfade from one beat to another. Then Adam pulls off an amazingly skillful crossfade with 4 beats. Thick breakdown start come in afterwards. The depths of these sounds are astounding and amazing.

Supreme Truth - The Supreme Truth (Blood Mix) uses some heavy pounding bass which will rattle and rumble your speakers. A handful of classy techno beats are used. This song was recorded when  Hessen was at his best which is why this is such a brutal techno song. This song is a techno classic today. This is hard as all industrial techno. In fact this is hard as all industrial techno should be. And it went fully industrial while industrial was at its experimental phase.

Orphx ‎– Division EP EP review

Orphx ‎– Division EP uses divulges into experimental techno sounds as many of those electronic synths you hear are bit crushed and distorted through an amplifier of sorts. Orphx also decided to delve into a more dub based sound and style with this release.

Burning Flags (Surgeon Mix) uses some heavy brutal intense distorted electronic synths and techno pads. Yes those are techno based pads being used. The intensity from the static and distortion can drive one ears mad. This one of those dark industrial techno songs which uses a dub platform.

Cracktest (Edit) is another one of dark industrial techno songs with the maddening annoying static and distortion. Both beats and pads are very intense.

First Light is one of those dark acid techno songs which uses a dub platform. The synths are bit crushed and distorted through an amplifier. This one of those songs good enough to be used on a video game during a final stage where you engage in combat and battle a boss. While dull and boring at first, the song utilizes some intensity in the buildups and breakdowns.

Deus-Ex-Machina - Threat Of Aggression single review

Deus-Ex-Machina - Threat Of Aggression is a highlight of some of the best old school techno from 1992. The single had techno stompers such as Threat Of Aggression and Rage. This is pure rave techno here. The single charted all the way to #1 on Chicago Techno Charts and #5 in Miami, which had a much smaller techno scene, back in 1992. As expected this single was popular in the underground techno scene during that time. Deus-Ex-Machina was a side project affiliated with the synth-pop/new wave band London Exchange. Sadly their side project never took off and their single went unnoticed by the masses which is a shame because their single charted in the single digits underground.

Threat Of Aggression was a techno stomper from back in the day many techno fans and electronic fans remember. Threat Of Aggression charted all the way to #1 on Chicago Techno Charts and #5 in Miami, which had a much smaller techno scene, back in 1992. Many techno fans remember the vocal samples that were used in this song. This song was popular in the underground techno scene. Vocal samples in this stomper were used from 1951 film The Day the Earth Stood Still which is where those vocals come from.

The song starts off with the vocal sample saying, “And the threat of aggression by any group, anywhere, can no longer be tolerated.” over sirens and distorted clash cymbals. A hodgepodge of quirky ethereal electronic synths are used throughout the song.

Threat Of Aggression (Sonic Rave Mix) is much more distorted then the 7" Original Mix of Threat Of Aggression. This version uses more techno oriented beats and techno based pads at a tempo of 129 BPM. This is pure rave techno here. John Phipps kills it with those chords.

Threat Of Aggression (Klaatu Klub Mix) experiments with the sounds of industrial techno at a tempo of 129 BPM. This version is different from the original as this version uses a repeated looped vocal sample which goes as “the threat of aggression” several times throughout the song. This version is not as well known as the 7" Original Mix and the Sonic Rave Mix but is just as popular.

Rage a great old school techno tune which is electronic pads, electronic synths, and chords. John Phipps kills it with those chords. Rage uses a tempo of 129 BPM in similar fashion and format to Threat Of Aggression (Sonic Rave Mix) and Threat Of Aggression (Klaatu Klub Mix). Although there are not as many of those vocal stabs as was the case with Threat Of Aggression. Nevertheless Rage is just as good of an old school techno tune as Threat Of Aggression is.

Mentalinstrum - After Hours EP

The release of Mentalinstrum - After Hours is one of the lesser known garage house singles/EP from NYC that definitely flew under the radar. Now what stands out about this slightly unique garage house EP is that this garage house EP is romance based which is there are so many romantic themes based on love with songs such as Leave Me, Ah! I'm Coming, Love Changes, and Dance With Me.

Ah! I'm Coming an intoxicating garage house romance song with such repetitive vocals which get annoying after a while. Nothing special here. Only fans of garage house will enjoy and understand the song.

Dance With Me uses a mixture of Salsa dance mixed with that NYC styled garage house sound and plenty of bass many fans of electronic music enjoy. The song serves as an example of some of the great stuff produced by Smack Productions.

Leave Me uses a bunch of warped pads, chords, and angelic synths. This song uses more dance oriented synths and dance beats instead of solely relying on electronic music. You will love those slamming sounds!

Love Changes is aromatics garage house masterpiece produced by Eddie Perez himself. Eddie Perez is the master of garage house. Mentalinstrum/Smack Productions had their signature sound back in the 90s. It is rare for producers to have their "own" signature sound these days as music these days sound the same. Love Changes will make you love house music and especially garage house. The beats are absolutely sick!

4/5****!
