This is Michael Mixerr. This afternoon I will review Mike D. Chill - Straight Pimp Shit.
Mike D. Chill is the Colorado equivalent of Too Short. You can tell from that statement by looking at the title of this album called Straight Pimp Shit. Straight Pimp Shit is a classic in both Colorado rap and Denver rap. Straight Pimp Shit is a Denver classic. Every track on this album is sample crazy since it came out in the 90s. Straight Pimp Shit was released on cassette by Kut-N-Kru Records from Denver, Colorado in 1994.
The Quick Intro is an introduction that disses DJ Quik for what he said on his track Jus Lyke Compton. Mike D. Chill retaliates against DJ Quik by shooting him at the end of this introduction for what he said. Also The Quick Intro samples DJ Quik - Jus Lyke Compton. Ironically the intro pays tribute to DJ Quik.
Last Breath is a mix n mash hodgepodge of Eazy-E tracks. Take notice of the dope sample of Eazy-E on here as you listen to Last Breath. The Last Breath is a brash loopy ode to the plant marijuana. Mike D. Chill disses DJ Quik again on Last Breath. Quick didn’t think Denver was a strong city. Last Breath samples No Parking (On the Dance Floor) by Midnight Star.
Mike D. Chill relinquishes to us by coming at us with a mixture of funk and hip hop on the track Comin At Ya. Funk meets hip hop and rap on Comin At Ya. Samples of breakbeats along with turntablism can be heard on Comin At Ya. Comin At Ya is similar to Straight Jackin’ by Ruff-N-Rugged. Take notice of the dope sample of Dr. Dre on Comin At Ya.
Mike D. Chill experiments with sexual rap on 1-900 DJ Mike D Chill. Mike D. Chill is the Colorado equivalent of Too Short. You can tell from that statement by looking at the title of this album called Straight Pimp Shit and the title of this particular track of course.
Bad Mutha Fucka is the weakest track on the album. A Michael Jackson sample over a gangsta rap track is not always the best or brightest idea. The Michael Jackson sample has blend in with the production mix in order to be perfect. Percussion from the processed drum machine somewhat makes the track annoying. The percussion does not blend in with the mix of The Michael Jackson sample.
I rate this album, Straight Pimp Shit, 4/5****.
