The Purple Saber Affliction is an entire EP of music the band Twinspan never got to release. The Purple Saber Affliction was recorded but was never released until September 1, 2017. 1 1/2 years later from the release of their 2015 album. The band decided to release this EP as a stream on their YouTube channel. The band has grown and shows maturity on this EP. Their sound and style are more polished from their last album. That is the difference with this EP. They do metalcore some justice with this EP. Despite being only 20 minutes long, the EP has its highlights with songs such as Who The Fuck Is David Chopperfield, Plastic Faces, and Southbound Northside.
You can hear militaristic band style drumming at the beginning of Who The Fuck Is David Chopperfield with thick heavy snares. The band adopted the military band style drum line to use in this song. Patrick Case does a spectacular job on playing the drums and percussion. He shows maturity as a percussionist as he does not miss a beat or cue. He stays on beat by not loosing focus. Claves are used as the percussion selection. Now at the 1:06 mark is where the song quickly transitions into a metal song.
You hear the tension and heaviness of distortion of the song Plastic Faces. You can hear distortion in both their vocals and musical instruments. It’s a power driven, angst ridden heavy metal song. Think metalcore when you listen to Plastic Faces.
Southbound Northside is a true metalcore classic which metalheads will enjoy in the years to come. It’s a power driven, angst ridden heavy metal song. Think metalcore when you listen to this song. The band lets us know Twinspan is taking over and things won’t be the same as it was before. There’s no escaping.
I rate this EP 4/5****!
