Mixerr Album Reviews #2,192

Maroon Town strayed away from their original sound and went in different musical direction by turning towards using rocksteady and dub sounds instead on their 1999 album Don Drummond. The band leans more towards dub reggae this time although the ska sound is still present. This is a good example of the band broadening their horizons. They have detached themselves from their usual sound. Not exuberant as their last release. For example, Clarendon Calling is one of the more somber songs on the album. Are You Ready and Cuban Nights are the bombastic songs off the album.

Are You Ready is a song that pays a reverent tribute to African culture and African music. The song follows a traditional African sound with the beats and percussion. African vibes can be heard all throughout the song. The spirit is strong in this song. This song is good for spiritual healing.

All generations love the sounds of African music whether they are aware of that or not. The traditional style of African music and vibes are what appeal to them. Vibes, beats, and rhythm are what make people happy. People also love the old school feeling African music gives. African music has flavour. So once in a while you find a style that is so appealing.

These lyrics pay a reverent tribute to African culture and African music.

Because positive direction where we coming from
Ancestors you know A. F . R . rican
So fix up your movement fix up your plan
Don't forget your moral obligation
To your self singular uno number one
Maroon Town come for cause a boom bam
New design ska band have clout
To cook up session
The jam sticky in a cool version
Yes the jam sticky in a cool version

Maroon Town calls out new wave ska bands for having clout. Specifically third wave ska bands. Study these lyrics to understand.

Clarendon Calling is different from the other songs included on this album as it is one of their darker songs that has an ominous vibe and sound rather than usual chipper songs due to the lyrics. Read the lyrics to the song to get a better understanding. The details of this song are not too sparse.

Let me take you to a place
I know Where no plants nor trees there grow
Where the beach is black, where the sky is grey
And the force of life just fades away
Come on baby take my hand
Let me lead you through this troubled land
Where the rain clouds swell like a storm from hell
And the force of life just fades away
You're just fading

This troubled land is a place where no plants nor trees grow. The beach is black and the sky is grey. Where the rain clouds swell like a storm from hell. The force of life just fades away.Clarendon Calling is a song that has an ominous vibe.

Innocent Mind is one of those songs which represents oblivion and innocence. This song is more ebullient than Clarendon Calling.

Part of your mindset is still innocent and oblivious. Your innocent mind still cares and is still there. Follow what you're feeling and you'll get there.

Now your family is crying. It seems you gave up trying to care. And now you're deep in your confusion. No one is there to comfort you with uplifting words of comfort. But your innocent mind still cares. If you look you will find it there. This world in all its madness has got you always running away from reality. And you can fall into oblivion until you can face yourself one day. You'll be flying high all evening, but morning leaves you feeling despair.

Sierra is a story tale about a man who goes off on a journey to a far away land called Sierra. The style this song was written is similar to sea shanties. The ban seems to be reverent to sea shanties. There’s quite an ethnic fusion going on here. The details of this song are not too sparse.

A man goes on a journey to visit a far away land called Sierra. This journey of his ranges from explorations of kinds to discover treasures of life by traveling through arid dusty roads over mountains through ramshackle jungles. He is seeing all kinds of creatures in the mountains and down below. It was hot in the mountains and cold down below. Unfortunately however, the material things he had brought were of no use. He had to leave them behind.

He heard about a legend from a crazy old fool at a bar. Of the city of gold deep in the jungle, he called it piety. Philosophy or whether treasures could be found. Left by some Indians after genocide.

He went on into the jungle in search of this gold by going on a quest. Here is the rhapsodic moment of the song. He fell into slumber by the waterfall by the time he was deep into his quest. He woke up to find himself surrounded by a strange feral land. And in the midst of the land was she. She was beautiful. She danced to the groove and she sang a song.

This lady changed him as a person. She brought him back to life. She took him into her arms and he fell into a spell. For days and nights he danced grooving to her sound. He left that wicked place he discovered. That behind every man there's a skeleton. So he escaped from the rich and the poor. He turned rich and strong. Be careful which road you choose is the message of this song.

I rate this album 4/5****.
