Govalle Mexican School was one of the many Mexican schools in Austin and Travis County. Govalle Mexican School is one of the many forgotten schools of Austin that has been long forgotten. This news article explain and explore the history of Govalle Mexican School.

Govalle Mexican School was established by Govalle Common School District (Govalle CSD) and what was then Austin Public Schools (now Austin ISD) in 1921. Now Govalle Mexican School was located on a .02 acre lot next to Govalle White School (Govalle School) at 3601 Govalle Avenue. Part of the school was located at 3602 Govalle Avenue.

Govalle Mexican School had employed a vocational teacher. “Govalle independent schools will probably run eight months since each has a vocational teacher whose salary is partially paid by the federal government.” (Ref: Austin American, Page 3, Sunday, August 22, 1926)

Miss Lucille Cooley was appointed teacher of the Govalle Mexican School where 18 students were enrolled in 1928. “Dorothy Henry and Harry S. Van Hoefen of Austin have registered at the University of Southern California, Miss Lucille Cooley has been appointed teacher of the Govalle Mexican School. There is an enrollment of 18 pupils.” (Ref: Austin American, Page 2, Saturday, November 10, 1928)

Now the exact date or timeframe of when Govalle Negro School was integrated into Govalle White School (Govalle School) is unknown.
