Nature of Round Rock Breathing Cave explored again.

Round Rock Breathing Cave is one of the forgotten caves of Williamson County and Round Rock. Not too much information on this cave can be found as there is no map of the cave footprint or atlas as Round Rock Breathing Cave has never been explored by anyone before. The boundaries of this cave both inside and outside remain unmapped and unexplored. This news article will explain the nature behind Round Rock Breathing Cave.

Round Rock Breathing Cave is a privately-owned cave located on a 52 acre tract of undeveloped land off Chisholm Trail. The entrance to Round Rock Breathing Cave is 500 feet away from any roads including I 35, Chisholm Trail, or Railroad Avenue. Not many people know this but Round Rock Breathing Cave is also known as Step Down Cave/Step-Down Cave.  (Ref: https://www.texasspeleologicalsurvey.org/PDF/TSS_Volume2/Volume2_Number1_MX.pdf)

Round Rock Breathing Cave is known to contain the T. reyesi species and Bone Cave Harvestman. T. reyesi can mostly be found in this cave. (Ref: https://www.fws.gov/southwest/es/Documents/R2ES/Bone%20Cave%20Harvestman%205-Year%20Review.pdf)

More air is known to leave the cave than enter. This type of air flow leads to a period of oscillation. A newsletter article from The Texas Cave dating back to November 1967 makes reference of this period of oscillation. The article discussed how the air flow went. (Ref: https://digital.lib.usf.edu/SFS0054968/00001)

“Its one known entrance exhibits this type of air flow. The period of oscillation of this type of cave depends on the inertia of the moving air and the rate of heat exchange at the upper entrance as well as other factors. More air has been observed to leave the cave than to enter in general. Such a cave would be expected to oscillate only when the temperature outside the cave was higher than inside, and it might be expected that the period of oscillation would vary with the temperature difference.”

Not too much information on this cave can be found as there is no map of the cave footprint or atlas as Round Rock Breathing Cave has never been explored by anyone before. The boundaries of this cave both inside and outside remain unmapped and unexplored even to this day.

Round Rock Breathing Cave is located on Chisholm Trail, Round Rock, Texas, US.
