History of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Laredo, Texas explained and explored.

St. Peter's Catholic Church was established at the turn of the 19th century in 1897 at the location of 1500 Matamoros Street in the St. Peter's Historic District of Laredo, Texas. The church building for St. Peter's Catholic Church was built as a Gothic Revival church with heavily altered stucco. St. Peter's Catholic Church is attributed to by German craftsman Heinrich Portscheller and is the namesake for the neighborhood. German craftsman Heinrich Portscheller designed the church. St. Peter's Catholic Church was established and organized as an English speaking parish to serve non Spanish speaking families who arrived in Laredo during the 1890s. St. Peter's Catholic Church served newly arrived English-speaking Catholics unfamiliar with the Spanish-language services at San Agustín. St. Peter's Catholic Church was referred to as Cathedral of San Pedro during the early years of operation by the community. The year 1997 marked an important milestone for St. Peter's Catholic Church. 1997 marked the parish's 100th year anniversary of St. Peter's Catholic Church reflecting on the rich history of the church.
