Shades Of Culture - Blunt album review

Canadian rap group Shades Of Culture bring us some underground freshness with their sound for this album. Shades Of Culture bring out the best of Canadian rap and Canadian hip hop on this album. Shades Of Culture have left themselves a mark in the underground music scene in their right. Dark sounds of underground hip hop and rap can be heard on this album. Take note of the reduced treble for instance. This album features the original version Eye Out and, of course, The Letter. Shades Of Culture get biographical on A Bit About Us in a lyrical testimony.

Bat - Save Me album review

Bat - Save Me is similar to the dark horrorcore sounds of Brotha Lynch Hung and Esham. Who knew that the state of Virginia could produce such raw dark horrorcore sound?

Ghetto Heaven has some dark grimey horrorcore sounds with a heavy pultruding bass line to accompany the track. The bass line gives Ghetto Heaven a spooky eerie feeling. Such bass will leave a long lasting impact on your mind. Not mention Ghetto Heaven is percussion ridden too. Who knew that the state of Virginia could produce such raw dark horrorcore sound?

Save Me has some dark grimey horrorcore sounds. However, both the bass and treble seem to be set a reduced level. The bass is much lower than Ghetto Heaven. Save Me is a desperate plea or cry for help. The artist is crying out for help. It hurts so bad to die. At the beginning, we are taken into a state of confusion. The artist commits suicide by a shooting himself with a chrome gun. He kills himself in a single shot. Bat doesn’t even trust himself. Bat can’t even trust his soul. What’s life without fear? What is life without stress? Everyone goes through stress. In some cases, stress can result into a downward spiral of suicidal thoughts.

Second Power - Da Move Is On EP review

This EP contains material too realistic for mainstream audiences to understand or comprehend. The material from this EP recording is too realistic for the weak minded people. Second Power gets very political but not too educational on this EP. Their lyrical content is such true content that has true meaning. Da Move Is On is dope rap from Indiana.

Fuck da Radio deals with music industry politics regarding radio stations and payola. Not playing local music on radio stations is regarded as payola. Radio stations out there that don't want to play real music shit even if radio stations music isn't for the people. There really is no music is made for the people by the people. We are tired of the same old bullshit played on all the radio stations. Radio stations be on that "fuck local" tip. There is no unity in radio stations when it comes to music. Fuck the radio!

In scandal after scandal, radio personalities along with radio stations get off the hook Scott free when it comes to music business politics. The staff working at these radio stations get paid off the corporations that are in charge of these radio stations. Take Clear Channel, sirius XM, and NBC for instance.

Try ta Maintain is about as maintaining your composure along with politics. To maintain is to maintaining your composure by staying sane by deep breathing exercises, long walks, combing your hair, and don't let stress turn you into a mess. To maintain is about staying alive and maintaining your composure. Stay on your game. It's about maintaining your status without going insane in this game we all call life. Haters are bad, so keep away from them as much as you can and it will be all good.

In scandal after scandal, politicians get off the hook Scott free when it comes to politics. After a testimony is made, the judge gets paid off with a large sum of money. These judges do not care about justice despite carrying such legal title.

Adic - Ain’t No Love album review

Ain’t No Love is about how people have no love for each other these days. It also deals how people are heartless these days. Ain’t No Love searches for the solution of happiness. Adic rakes it back to the roots on this album. The album’s title is solely based off of and inspired by the Bobby Bland jazz ballad Ain’t No Love In The Heart of City. That is where the inspiration for the album title must have come from. Both genres of jazz and soul meet rap on this album by Adic. Soul meets rap on Ain’t No Love making the album a soul rap album. Adic - Ain’t No Love is a Shreveport rap classic. Adic is Always Def In Competition from Shreveport, Louisiana.

The song Ain’t No Love is a classic song. The song Ain’t No Love is entirely based off a sample from Ain’t No Love In The Heart of City by Bobby Bland. Ain’t No Love is entirely based off the sample Ain’t No Love In The Heart of City by Bobby Bland which is probably the inspiration for the album title must have came from. In particular, this song holds down the weight of this album meaning that this song is a highlight track for this album.

Ain’t No Love is about how people have no love and are heartless these days. People are heartless these days. We as humans are not as compassionate as we should be. We are not compassionate as we once were. Just look at the world. This beginning sentence “Just look at the world.” gives us a foreshadowing into our grim looking future. That sentence along gives us an insight into our grim future.

Adic states that black people are getting killed in the city streets of inner cities and urban communities. Many killings of black do happen when living in an urban community. Murder, homicide, and genocide are well prevalent in many inner cities. Adic raps about crime that plagues inner cities and drugs that effect peoples mood stability.
Adic tells us where we should be as a human race.

Damn It Feels Good is an upbeat swing jazz ballad of which Adic raps about how the quality of living in America would be in the group’s vision of a perfect world. Damn It Feels Good is an upbeat swing jazz ballad that has a positive vibe to it very much similar to 80s and 90s pop. You can definitely hear that upbeat 90s pop sound in Damn It Feels Good. The song itself is filled with both negative and positive themes.

Adic makes pro black statements at the very beginning of Damn It Feels Good. The group Adic tells black people in America to be proud of their race. That is their stance on racial pride. Pro-black is where and what Adic wants to be at. It’s about proud of being black. This tells us where the group Adic is on pro-black stances.

Adic raps about how the quality of living in America would be in the group’s vision of a perfect world. There would be no homelessness. There would be no poverty. Starvation would become a thing of the past. Abortion would become a thing of the past too. Adic states that there should be no crime. Everyone living in peace and harmony. But Adic knows that it’s too much to ask for.

Adic raps on debating issues that effect quality of living. Homelessness, poverty, and crime are enormous issues that effect the quality of living in America. These issues effect quality of living standards.

The production level and sound quality get lower for some reason on 3 Bad Brothers. Notice how low the bass is reduced. There is a huge change in the sound quality. There is a huge treble reduction in the sound quality. It seems as if the freestyle 3 Bad Brothers was not mastered on a professional level in terms of sound quality. The samples are crazy! Yet they are both fitting. 3 Bad Brothers is a def lyrical freestyle competition of 3 Adic members.

Now the reason why there is a huge sudden change in the sound quality for the freestyle 3 Bad Brothers is because 3 Bad Brothers was recorded in 1992. Production in 1992 was not as technologically advanced as it was in 1993. The 3 Bad Brothers track was recorded on a 4 track cassette deck.

What Makes You Want To Want To Lie To Me is a sad heartbreaking love song with an Enya-esque sample of What Makes You Want To Want To Lie To Me by Merge. The change in the sound quality is huge. Volume is set at a much higher level than all the other songs on the album. What Makes You Want To Want To Lie To Me is a looser song that hits right in the feels. What Makes You Want To Want To Lie To Me is a down and out song.

Check Yourself is another def freestyle by Adic! (A lyrical freestyle at that.) Check Yourself is another lyrical freestyle of 3 Adic members.

The Plow Boyz - Tearin’ Up The Field album review

The Plow Boyz tore up the field with their debut Tearin’ Up The Field album back in 1994 when the album was released on cassette. The album is a combination of Latin and electronic music. Tearin’ Up The Field is highly Latin influenced and oriented. Not to mention that Tearin’ Up The Field is highly dance music oriented by the tempo of the percussion selection. The sounds of the percussion selection match to the high tempo heard when listening to dance music.

Abstract Unique Tribe - Underground Fossils album review

Underground Fossils is a Jazz album with a hip hop sound. Electronic sounds used in this album make Underground Fossils to a DJ Shadow or DJ Krush album. Underground Fossils is very much similar to an album you would hear from DJ Shadow.

The beginning of These Lions is a quirky electronic mashup of various sound whether it be electronic or foley. Radio waves are simultaneously heard in the back ground. These Lions is quite similar to a DJ Shadow or DJ Krush song. A jazz drum kit is used to match the melody of percussion and the smooth slow jazz sample. Both the melody and tempo are slow. Heavy bass penetrates this track smoothly. These Lions is unique.

Looking Glass is a heavy bass ridden track over rap music This song was really lackluster without any real substance to the lyrics. Looking Glass is still somewhat unique. Looking Glass is similar to the Book of Enoch and Malik-Bo - Brokest in Southeast.

The Brilliant Green - The Winter Album album review

The Brilliant Green's The Winter Album is the next best thing to Soylent Green. It's truly the album greatest ever in Japanese rock! The Winter album is a pop/grunge rock onslaught with demonstrated potential. An album such as this particular one truly shows potential. Such songs are much darker in sound and style being much heavier than before. Their mature sound is fresh. The rhythm section is updated with more live instrumentation. Most of the guitars are set to overdrive which shift onto a glory ringing chorus. The Brilliant Green is the best thing happening to rock in Japan these days. Think Japanese rock with a touch of English glam.

Rollins - Live At McCabes album review

By after listening to this cassette, we can all learn that it’s hard not to hate people. Sometimes it’s easier to hate them than it is to see them as individuals. We just need to take the time to see them as individuals. We need to see people as individuals instead of hating them. Hate leads us to discriminate. Yes. People are stupid. But who isn’t? Sometimes there is nothing to see in these individuals. It’s hard not to hate people we don’t know about. This is all from an educational aspect.
According to Mixerr Reviews, people are stupid.

Adele - 19 album review

The 19 album by Adele was under-appreciated and overlooked when it came out similar to how the Reasonable Doubt album by Jay-Z was under-appreciated by fans at first. In that aspect, Adele released her debut album and no one really appreciated it similar to how fan didn’t appreciate Reasonable Doubt by Jay-Z when that album came out. Despite selling millions of units, fan didn’t appreciate the 19 album the way they did the 21 album in 2011. The only reasons why the 19 album received the time of day was due to her songwriting skills and her singing vocals.

Kaos & Mystro - Timeless Insight Of Kaos single review

Kaos & Mystro give us a timeless insight into politics as political revolutionaries. Both have went the Afrocentric route when it came to political conscienceless in raising awareness of politics. Both Kaos & Mystro get on the political revolutionary tip for this single. Timeless Insight Of Kaos is an example of early Detroit hip hop and rap that got over looked by contemporaries Dice, Smiley, DMW, ICP, HOK, Esham, and Champtown among others. Timeless Insight is also an example of early conscious rap and political rap. Kaos & Mystro were the Detroit version of Boogie Down Productions.

Kaos & Mystro give us a timeless insight into politics as political revolutionaries on the track Timeless Insight Of Kaos. Timeless Insight Of Kaos is written from the viewpoint and perspective of Kaos. Both have went the Afrocentric route when it came to in raising awareness of politics using their political conscienceness to raise such awareness. Both Kaos & Mystro get on the political revolutionary tip for Timeless Insight Of Kaos. Timeless Insight Of Kaos deals with the ills of society, materialism in America gone rampantly wrong, and capitalism of course. Capitalism is about the haves & have-nots.

Call For Revolutionaries is the battle call for political revolutionaries. Both Kaos & Mystro get on the political revolutionary tip for Call For Revolutionaries. Kaos. Both have went the Afrocentric route when it came to in raising awareness of politics using their political conscienceness to raise such awareness.

Handy Man - The Adventures of Handy Man album review

Soul artist Handy Man, known as Vermond Chryar, released The Adventures of Handy Man on CD in 1996 from MM Records. The Adventures of Handy Man is filled with smooth melodies in a soulful manner accompanied by live instrumentation. Highlights for The Adventures of Handy Man album are the live instrumentation and smooth melodies. Songs on this album are backed by several choruses. The Adventures of Handy Man is really worth checking out. Unfortunately the album is very hard to find nowadays. [Handy Man took up his name because he is paralyzed and in a wheelchair.]

Troyski - Universal album review

Independent Blues has that inner city blues sound. Troyski was possibly influenced by the genres of Blues and Jazz when writing the composition for Independent Blues. The tune Independent Blues is reminiscent of Marvin Gaye - Inner City Blues. Of course this song was written and produced by Troyski himself. So there are no samples used despite the given title of the song which is ironic.

The Bullet With No Name is a pure gangsta rap track that samples Brick by Dazz. The Brick sample by Dazz fits in perfectly with The Bullet With No Name. The Bullet With No Name track has a Bullets Don’t Have No Names vibe to it. There I Go is a soul rap track. There I Go samples Brick by Dazz also.

Pimp C - Pimpalation album review

This album is so cold and playalistic that it became Pimpadelic like George Clinton. This album will take you a pimps journey through life with Pimp C on this album. Samples are used in this album! Mr. Lee puts in good use of his good productions skills on this album. This album was put out in 2005 during the Rap-A-Lot Records/Asylum Records distribution deal. 2005 was a good year for the Pimpalation to drop. Pimpalation is better than the crap that's out there right now with a select few albums of course!!

Lil Boosie and Webbie around the remix tip on the remix of Like That. Mr. Lee puts in good use of his good productions skills. Lil Boosie and Webbie to killed the fucking joint! The Honey is an appropriate track for Jazze Pha. It sounds like something that he would do. It's quite suitable for him and what he's known for. Pay attention to production by Jazze Pha!

The Knockin' Doorz Down with such a badass track! It was so playalistic as cold ice during A Yukon snowstorm. Lil Keke wrecks it also! Pimp C was at his prime in the game at the time as you may all know. Pimp C was always ahead of his time and so was UGK when they made their songs. There needs to be an SUC remix of this song! An official one that is.

Pourin Up was another Southern classic song! Mike Jones help made this song a classic! So did Bun B. Also it deserved more radio play. Lyricism meets trap beats over southern rap and hip hop describe the genre. So you definitely will want to look into this if you're interested on type of material. Now with that said this song will be a classic even 10 years from now.

Gitcha Mind Right was overlooked. It was produced by Cory Mo. Most of Cory Mo's productions are overlooked of course. He is a Houston legend in production. Just as Jhiame is underground. This track has potential to become a single. It's perfectly fitting for the album.

[The Pimpalation album came with a DVD that included music videos, behind the scenes footage, and much more! The DVD disc also included pictures.]

Low Leaf - Akashaalay album review

Akashaalay has a relaxed electronic instrumental vibe which is super chilled in a chill manner. Low Leaf has perfected her craft an instrumentalist as Akashaalay is performed with such vivid sound. She uses a mashup of sounds from various cultures across the globe. She mainly uses a mashup of electronic sounds for this album creating an iconic electronic landscape. That is how she creates an electronic landscape for the Akashaalay album. The albums mood creates a good vibe and atmosphere. As one wonders how she kept practicing her craft as an instrumentalist overtime is by listening to this album.

Mac Ten - The Whole Ten Yards album review

Old school rap meets the urban inner city sound of gangsta rap on The Whole Ten Yards album. Despite the fact The Whole Ten Yards sounds outdated for 1993, it’s good. Mac Ten is Grand Rapids rap at its finest. Mac Ten has a similar flow and iconic style of rapping similar to Redrum781 of Bangin’ On Wax. In fact, Mac Ten is very similar to Redrum781 in terms of vocals. If you listen closely, you can understand this comparison made. Grand Rapids rappers Paperthyn and Brother Bat are all over this album. Mac Ten is Larry Bracey from Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Mac Ten is the nearly the next best thing in Grand Rapids rap next to Brother Bat, Paperthyn, Governor Slugwell, Rick Chyme, TruPhonetiks, and Iceman J.

MF is a whack lackluster rap track over an annoyingly warped sample of The Bee Gee’s - Stayin Alive song. Listen closely and you’ll notice the warped guitar notes that sample The Bee Gee’s - Stayin Alive. The flaws for this track would be the warped sample and lyrics.

A news report in audio format is played after MF about a gang related homicide on a track called News. 4 victims were supposed targets. 3 of the victims were severely beaten with crowbars and chains. Neighbors say it was a gang fight. Police have detained 2 suspects. Lt. Dale Winters says they are looking for more. One resident explains that the city of Grand Rapids is the type of place where you can’t walk down your own street anymore because it’s dangerous.

The dopest cut is Life Of The Mac 10! Life Of The Mac 10 is gangsta rap in its realist raw form over a funk sample.
Mac Ten is very similar to Redrum781 in terms of vocals especially on this track. If you listen closely, you can understand this comparison made. The bass hits super hard and heavy. The beats are crazy! Life Of The Mac 10 is raw gangsta rap. Mac Ten leaves niggaz brainless with gangsta battle raps.

In My City is a battle rap type of song. In My City samples Nucleus - Jam On It and Ice Cube -AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted. The bass hits super hard and heavy settling your speakers. The beats are crazy as usual! The vinyl cuts and breakbeats are superb. That’s the word! In My City gangsta rap in its raw form.

Get with the game because fools get got (shot) where Mac Ten comes from. At night the Tech 9’s go ratatat which are shots from an ’82 Cadillac. Someone is dead. Better run because here comes the one time. One time busted in your pad looking for the dope and the mac ten. But all they find is a couple of kilos. Mac Ten grew up in the heart of his city on Prospect Avenue. The location in the heart of the city Mac Ten is referring to is Prospect Avenue  which is near Lafayette Avenue. That’s the only hood that he claims. Mac Ten grew up in the G-Rap era.

At this point in the song, Mac Ten continues to give props to various neighborhoods in Grand Rapids. Mac Ten give props to his homies off of Kalamazoo Avenue. Standing on a corner. Sipping off a cold brew. Venice Street gets mentioned. Baxter too. The boys off Nickerson kill for a cause and not just random killing.

As we roll on, Brother Bat raps a gangsta verse. Brother Bat is known in Grand Rapids as the brother with the chrome gat and chrome steel bat. Brother Bat (Troy Evans) was another rapper from the same street (Prospect Avenue) as Mac Ten. He is from Grand Rapids.

DJ Snake - King Of Bass (Revisited) album review

King Of Bass was an album that was produced, engineered, and programmed by DJ Snake. King of Bass itself was released on Youngsta Records in 1996. DJ Snake shows of drum programming techniques on this albums production as he responsible for 100% of the production. This album is different from his last album due to the absence of DJ AK and longevity. Bass test tones are included with this album with tracks 9-15 in the frequency ranges of 24.5 Hz to 58 Hz. The album is mainly a mixture of electronic, dance, rap, pop, and hip hop.

Art of Bass is an interpolation of Beatbox by Art of Noise. DJ Snake pays tribute to British electronic band Art of Noise on this song. The drum programming plays a role the heavy percussion ridden song. It's an electronic mix n mash of Art of Noise songs into one single track. Most of the percussion selection is electronically programmed and not produced live. No life instrumentation was used on this song.

Super Boom was a 5 minute song that displayed DJ Snakes drum programming skills. He incorporated a 46 Hz bass test tone in the background. If you ultrasound headphones that are good, you probably can hear the 46 Hz bass test tone. Super Boom is rap and hip hop influenced in terms of percussion.

Nasty Bass is another rap and hip hop influenced song electronically programmed by DJ Snake. Nasty Bass was most likely influenced by the sounds of Freaky Tales by Too $hort. The bass gets super nasty on this song. DJ Snake was no doubt influenced by Too $hort.

Frequency is a journey into sound and bass. He kept the frequency clear while producing this song creating a mega melody of influences from several musical genres such as electronic, dance, rap, hip hop, soul, and pop. Frequency incorporates elements from the How Low? song.

How Low? is an electronic rap inspired song which percussion was programmed by the great DJ Snake. The percussion and bass are set to an extremely loud volume! The bass is set to a vey low level.

Treble is faded and the bass is reduced on Bass Down. DJ Snake uses the bass reduction setting on this song. He masters it quite flawlessly. The percussion samples Suzanne Vega - Tom's Diner. Bass test tones are used and sampled throughout the song.

[King Of Bass was rereleased as a digital download in 2014 to online stores such as CDBaby, iTunes, GooglePlay, AppleMusic, TradeBit, chondo, etc. in 2014 by DJ Snake. The King Of Bass (Revisited) album came with more bass test tones than the original 1996 pressing did.]

Prhyme Suspect - Rhymin’ For A Reason single review

Rhymin’ For A Reason is Funk meets Hip Hop and Rap. Also Rhymin’ For A Reason from Prhyme Suspect is an early example of San Diego Rap and San Diego Hip Hop. Rhymin’ For A Reason was a byproduct of San Diego Rap from the 1990s that was overlooked and forgotten due to lack of attention. Prhyme Suspect raps about the basics in their raps. Nothing too simple however.

Rhymin’ For A Reason was released on the same label San Diego OG rapper The Green Eyes (David Green) released his singles Planet Of Tha Southeast and Somethin’ To Bop To on called New Style Records. Now the Rhymin’ For A Reason single/EP was distributed by Landmark Distribution which was absorbed by Island Records in 1996. New Style Records owns the rights to this album. The Rhymin’ For A Reason single/EP was released on cassette and vinyl in 1991 on New Style Records and Frogworks Records. Production came from Len C with Earthquake Productions.

Prhyme Suspect was originally S.D.P. (San Diego Posse) before becoming Prhyme Suspect. Prhyme Suspect was founded in 1988 by frontman Lil Boo now known as Lil Spank Booty, DJ CmeRock, and Cuch Nise. The Prhyme Suspect group was active from 1988 to 1994.

Lil Boo and DJ CmeRock are, well, rhymin’ for a reason on Rhymin’ For A Reason. They just want to be heard. Prhyme Suspect raps about the basics in their raps. Nothing too simple however. Funk meets Hip Hop and Rap on Rhymin’ For A Reason.

The beginning of Rhymin’ For A Reason initiates us with a distorted trumpet sample from possibly a Latin Oldies song from back in the day which last for about 4 seconds. A single looped electric guitar note is played through the duration of Rhymin’ For A Reason. The looped electric guitar note gives Rhymin’ For A Reason an upbeat funky vibe. You can hear a twang in that funky looped electric guitar note. The track descends into a fat heavy bass line.

Len C was responsible for production and percussion of Rhymin’ For A Reason by Prhyme Suspect. Len C was the one who produced those funky beats for the percussion ensemble selection. The same Len C from Earthquake Productions. DJ CmeRock and Len C chose the horn selection.

Behind The Loks is a funky hip hop/rap track performed by Lil Boo and DJ CmeRock. Back in the day, house parties in San Diego, California played Behind The Loks repeatedly along with other San Diego Rap classics. You can feel a funk vibe when listening to Behind The Loks.

Lil Boo and DJ CmeRock proclaim themselves as modern day hustlers. The rules of the street are fast and clear. You have to be about your hustle or get played. No games are played. Hoes are played because that’s how the game goes. But now they both take us back to the drawing board by explaining hustle or hustles work in these streets. Deadly gangs fights are common.

Lil Boo and DJ CmeRock next talk about how music saved the duo from living a lifestyle of crime for which they once were wrapped up in. Criminal activity was their daily routine at one point in time. It went from busting caps to busting raps.

With A Funkyness is a funk oriented track that samples Zapp - More Bounce To The Ounce continuously on a loop. The same Len C from Earthquake Productions did the percussion selection. He is also responsible for the ensemble of horns as well.

Nomad - Ruff’n It/Spiritual Environment single review

Nomad (Jay McIntyre) gives a 4 track single that has a down to earth subtle Quiet Storm vibe called Ruff’n It/Spiritual Environment. Both tracks have that smooth subtle Quiet Storm/soul sound to them. Ruff’n It/Spiritual Environment is a lost soul gem from the 90s era. Black Market Records dropped the ball by not promoting this single the right way it should have been.

Ruff’n It sounds similar to song title about romantic rough sex, but that’s not the case with this song. Ruff’n It is a smooth mellow soul song with a slightly romantic R&B touch. A tune such as this one is quite heartfelt. Nomad proves to be rough in it on Ruff’n It.

All you environmentalists and people who love Mother Earth with love Spiritual Environment. People who love Mother Nature will surely love this song. The Spiritual Environment song was dedicated to people who are down for peace with Mother Earth. This composition/song was written as an effort of peace. Nomad gives us a spiritual awakening by taking us on a spiritual journey through Spiritual Environment. Also Nomad attempts raise spiritual awareness inside of Spiritual Environment.
