Malik-Bo - Fruited EP

The Fruited EP by Malik-Bo was released on cassette in 1994 on Choke 1 Records. For those who don't know, this EP was Malik-Bo's very first debut solo. Think Jazz Rap.

The graphics and album artwork for this album is very basic black & white in 16 bit. There's nothing wrong with that for any artists who are just starting out on the music scene with limited funding. Of course this was the 90s so the standards were different then they are in the 2010s era.

On SE Ballin', Malik-Bo proves to us why Southeast Gs be blowing up the map trying to put San Diego on the map in regards for the music scene. Plenty of outsiders want to blend in San Diego scene but you don't want none of these Southeast OGs. In other words everyone wants to be from San Diego. His homies are creating turmoil with bullets. Shooting off all weak ass MCs execution style.

Malik-Bo takes us back to 1988 where an attempted gang rape happened at a house party where it got frisky when fools stepped in. 10 milli's should be kept while being crept in the city of San Diego. Other people do get in your business. Fools be ballin' and set trippin' while nark bitches and Feds be their downfall. It's about being put on the game in San Diego. Fools don't loiter in spot like back in 1988 because in 1994 that would lead up to a parole bust. Now Malik-Bo takes us back to 1994 when this song was written.

Malik-Bo is not an ex-con, but police are still racist which often leads Malik-Bo on hot cases. In other words, the police (SDPD) hate Malik-Bo. The police hold Malik-Bo up for the evening even though he has plans. Police search his car looking for narcotics (the product) for disturbing the peace because Malik-Bo has black skin and is a African-American male. The courts want to give Malik-Bo ten years upstate because he has melanin in his skin.

I hate how Malik-Bo dissed Orko on the trolley part of the song. Malik-Bo even had the audacity to call Orko a bitch. I don't know what the beef was between Orko and Malik-Bo, Orko Eloheim is still triv (cool) in my book. Malik-Bo cherishes his friends and family.
Even with all the ho's, killer fiends, deadbeat dads, and car jackings Malik-Bo still loves his place.

SE Ballin' is about everyday life in San Diego along with the dangers and perils that loom on a daily basis. It's about being put on the game in San Diego. The latest news, so peep game! Prophet Sativa is the female that sings.

SE Ballin' is a prime example of Jazz Rap with the saxophone, Jazz bass guitar, and the drum set. It's filled with G-Funk too! Think early Onyx, Raekwon, Main Source, Dream Warriors, Native Nuttz, Killarmy, U-God, and Shyeim. Those are also prime examples of Jazz Rap.

Plenty of Love is how Malik-Bo shows love to all the hoes and all the homies from SESD, however this track is marketed more towards the hoes. It a perfect track to play in those crowded clubs with mixed crowds.

619 is a dedication track to the whole city of San Diego. It's almost the same as Plenty of Love. (Well at least to me.) SE Ballin could have been on this cassette since it was made in 1994. Crack a Smile is a 2 or 3 minute long song. Fresh off a Grind reminds me of the track called A Pound of Game with JB Spade.

Little Texas - What Might Have Been single review

The What Might Have Been single by Little Texas has 2 songs called What Might Have Been and Stop On A Dime. What Might Have Been is a slow country love song about love long lost and love forgotten. What Might Have Been is a sorrowful tale of love lost. You know what they, true love never dies. Stop On A Dime is a slow smooth sailing ballad. The mood is very timid. The bass is set to a low preset.

Tha Bizniz Meyen - Grip It And Rip It EP EP review

Tha Bizniz Meyen - Grip It And Rip It EP was released ZAPNOW Records from Bellingham, Washington, US. This EP was released in January 2014.

Talk With Your Mouth Full has chopped & screwed sound by like a DJ Screw track. Talk With Your Mouth Full is a sex track no doubt. Talk With Your Mouth Full turned out very great. Talk With Your Mouth should have been 6 minutes longer. Overload of Lotion sounds like a track that Sonny Bo would do. Sick ass bass on identity! The bass will remind you of BODK - Under Surveillance. Butt Print has that Atlanta crunk music trap muzik sound! Tracks 1-3 are just sexual themed ballads.

Great cover artwork! Graphics are similar to what Pen N Pixel would do for No Limit Records back in the 00s. However the overuse of the Parental Advisory label kills it . ZAPNOW should have placed the Parental Advisory label to the left even though more people will buy it if it's placed on the right.

Tru II Flo - P.I.M.P. single review

Tru II Flo wanted to sound a lot different from the 90s Bay Area gangsta sound that was out there in California even though they retained the gangsta rap sound throughout the single Tru II Flo is Christian rap from the Bay Area. (Think Gospel Gangstaz!) P.I.M.P. is a song about getting your focus on to other things rater than prostitution, sexuality, and drugs. (This is a positive message.) The dub and acappella were superb.

Jaime - Booty in ya neighborhood single review

Jaime - Booty in ya neighborhood released in 1993 with a total of 5 songs. A music video that accompanied this song was broadcasted on local cable television stations in Dallas, Texas. The Deep Dallas Mix of Booty in ya neighborhood has that well known Dallas Bass. The Tropical Storm mix is more Electronic Latin freestyle. The radio edit was a okay!

I rate this single, Booty in ya neighborhood, 5/5*****.

Tweet - Love Again single review

This single came out on MC Lyte's Du Bose Music Group and Umbrella Recordings in 2010. Only a limited amount of promo CD singles were ever pressed only later to be put for online distribution. (This is a single.)

On Love Again, Tweet expresses that she is scared of loving someone. She's so confused. Does she love again? Even though Tweet's supposed to let go. She needs to get it together. Tweet doesn't want to live without that special person. She is afraid to let go and is afraid to get in into a relationship.

Love Again has that winter theme on a cold ice winter holiday. Just imagine ice skating on a pond during the holidays. Love Again is 3 minutes and 40 seconds long which is about as long as a typical average Tweet song. It's slow pace at first, but gets upbeat fast. I did not like the song Love Again. It sounded very suicidal.

Remedy was a better upbeat song. It will remind you of Nicole Wray's Destination from 2004. It's perfect for a snowy day at the mall or outside. The medium bass hits hard. Don’t let go or give in. Tweet is all you need.

Color Me Funky CJ Mack - album review

Color Me Funky album by CJ Mack was released in 1991. Think of an infusion of jazz, funk, and soul when you listen to this album. The guitar and saxophone selection are very well played out on this album. Artwork covers for this album are very colorful. A colorful infusion is one term to describe this album.  Color Me Funky by CJ Mack is quite similar to the albums that were formerly distributed by Ichiban or Wrap.

Jhiame - Let'z Stay 2-Getta?! single review

This single came out in 2013 on Jhiame Productions and Da Assassin Productionz.
Let'z Stay 2-Getta?! is one of them smooth ass tracks to make love to. Let'z Stay 2-Getta?! features Al Green and is Jhiame's first single in 20 years along with I Came Back and Upindabitch singles for the Da Last Shall B First album. Jhiame displays his soulful voice on this track.

I Came Back represents Jhiame's first comeback in 20 years. Jhiame tells us about his life and updates us for the latest 411 on the streets. Spittin' game all over the world.

Willie Hightower - Golden Classics album review

This album was released in 1989 along with the reprint in 2002. If you bought the 1989 cassette version, you have the legit one. If you got the 2002 reprint, you got ripped off. There are a lot of bootlegs and reprints of this album. So be careful. The downsides are the graphics and the time length. The graphics are quite generic even for a cassette that was made in the late 1980s. In other words the graphics are quite shitty indeed. So be prepared to those who thought there would a lot of inserts.  This album has so many songs yet the tape is so short. Don't get me wrong! These songs are great. It's just that the artwork is mediocre. This album is just for the collectors out there that just want to fill their Willie Hightower collection.

Skid Row - I Remember You single review

I Remember You was released as a cassette single in 1991 on Atlantic Records with 2 songs I Remember You and Makin' A Mess. I Remember You and Makin' A Mess should have been made into one song called I Remember You Makin' A Mess. That's how it should have been done. Both songs have that heavy metal underground rock sound. So if you're a metal head, you will like Skid Row! They will remind you and me of 16 Volt, dirty wormz, GSOM, and AC/DC. Both songs rule and kick ass! You will love them both.

Samantha Mumba - Gotta Tell Ya single review

Gotta Tell Ya is a fast paced song mixed with reggae dancehall and dance beats along with house style productions. The Machine Dub goes even faster and longer. Samantha Mumba was flowing fast like Busta Rhymes, Redman, Rita Marley, Black Mikey, and Lady J on this song. But this song proved her career as a musician to be a one hit wonder.

Useless ID - Get in the Pita Bread Pit album review

Get in the Pita Bread is a typical melodic hardcore hard rock album which was released in 1998. Get in the Pita Bread Pit is notable for its usage from a barrage of MIDI instruments that were used in recording this album. Of course, MIDI technology was popular in the 90s. MIDI instruments were used with the drum kits. Leaving Town and Lonely Heart are typical melodic hardcore songs. Lost Once Again has a good guitar riff solo. Run is a fast paced song obviously.

System 7 - Encantado album review

This album is an Electronic/Dance album. For those who don't know, Encantado means "enchanted". Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy wrote all the tracks on this album. Encantado is similar to the ambient sounds of Daft Punk, Art of Noise, and Kraftwerk. Think Electronic music, trance, dance, and europop are the sounds that can be found on this album.

The noodling on Bewitched is superb! The gated reverb was good to use. Bewitched sounded similar Laura from OHN was playing the guitar. The fidelity and reverb of Bewitched give off a futuristic vibe. Bluntly, Bewitched is a really futuristic track!

Octopussy sounds contrast to a Euro dance mix from the UK or France. Europop meets dance music on Octopussy. The dance music sound and elements are fairly prevalent.

Hoodlum Priest - The Heart of Darkness album review

For those who think this album is hip hop, you're right! Trip hop meets techno is the sound that blatantly describes this album. This album samples various story bits from Egyptian mythology on top of usage of drums and bass. (Hence the  Egyptian style paint on the front album cover.) There is Indian, Hindu, and African music influences use. There are film samples used in the songs as well. Addicts samples from the film Naked Lunch and Naked Time samples from the film Twins of Evil. It looks really great! However the album only has 8 tracks.
