Servn Funk is an example of that OKC funk sound. OKC funk is Oklahoma City funk for those who didn't know. Both Bound By Brothers and Daddy D popularized the underground sound of OKC funk. New Bohemians - Ghost of a Dog album review

Geffen was never really supportive of the New Bohemians as Geffen sabotaged every chance to promote the Ghost of a Dog album correctly in a proper manner. Geffen did not properly invest in or promote the Ghost of a Dog album to its full potential. Otherwise this album would've been a success and we would've seen 6 albums from New Bohemians by now. To put it bluntly, Geffen never really knew how to market the band in a proper manner to their full potential in order to rise to success and stardom.

Geffen dropped the ball when they fired Brandon Aly from the band. That was the ultimate worst decision Geffen made for the band overall. Brandon Aly was the spirit, soul, and chemistry behind their band. He was the chemistry of the band. Edie Brickell and her band members were devastated when that happened which ultimately led them to resent their label Geffen. Geffen's decision to fire Brandon Aly can be attributed to why this album's chemistry is much different.

Edie Brickell gave her band members more creative control and business decisions in the recording process of Ghost of a Dog which is why the musical style, sound, art design, and songwriting are different from the last album. The song writing is significantly different from their other album such as It's Like This and Shooting Rubberbands At The Stars. Mostly the chemistry is different as well.

Album sales for Ghost of a Dog were considered a commercial disappointment. Ghost of a Dog sold around 500,000 units almost reaching gold status whereas Shooting Rubberbands At The Stars went 2x platinum selling over 2 million units (over 2,000,000). Overall the sales were disappointing. The album had underperformed on the charts in the years of 1990 and 1991. New Bohemians and Geffen were expecting their sophomore album to go platinum. Geffen kind of overpromised in a way. Disappointing album sales could be the reason why the Ghost of a Dog album was overlooked. Ghost of a Dog was overlooked by critics, fans, and the general public altogether. People have slept on this album.

This album is an album that can truly capture a genuine moment. That statement goes for everyone and anyone including New Bohemians fans. Any moment this album is played, New Bohemians fans will appreciate the sound. New Bohemians fans, old and new, will truly appreciate this album.

Ghost of a Dog is an acoustic gem of sorrow, death, and mystery. Mystery represents the unknown in Ghost of a Dog. The dog is the symbol of death. Mournful sorrow are a couple of words that describe this song perfectly. So is the word mystery. This is a quiet song that is considered to be a calm soothing song. The instrumentation is perfectly appropriate for the mood.

Carmelito is an equestrian tale about 2 free spirits that rode fiery horses. Their names were Carmelito and Vandito. They are wild and free spirits traveling several miles across America; land of the free. Both of the horses represent the wild and free spirits. Freedom is a common element on Carmelito. The mood is playful.

Black & Blue deals with aspects of abuse such as emotional abuse or physical abuse. Child abuse is one example. Overall, Black & Blue deals with abuse. Visions of abuse are replaced with lyrics instead. This is the reason why abuse is so rampant all over the song.

New Bohemians go all out as the band members sing to their hearts content on Woyaho being that Woyaho is a sing-a-long song to sing to. Woyaho resembles rather a chant or a hymn. It is obvious Edie Brickell gave her band members more creative control with this song as all of the band members are included in the song. Woyaho can be deemed as a posse cut.

Stwisted is a mellow acoustic tune written by Edie Brickell herself. Also Stwisted is a raw mellow tune. Stwisted is quite similar to Strings of Love in comparison. Edie Brickell shines very swell on the Stwisted song.

Strings of Love is a complicated love song that proves to be something special. Times Like This is a quiet song considered to be a calm soothing song. The instrumentation selection is perfectly appropriate. Oak Cliff Bra is a raw mellow tune about the Oak Cliff neighborhood in Dallas, Texas.

Astray - Astray album review

The production resembles a much larger presence thanks to longtime Saginaw veteran music producer Pleasure Sparks overseeing this Astray album by serving as executive producer. Not only does Pleasure Sparks serve as executive producer, he serves a large number of vocals in the background for many tracks on this Astray album. Astray is the 2000 debut album from Saginaw rapper Astray who is also serving primarily as a songwriter.

Take notice of the presence inside the background vocals for Fast Girl with Lavel Jackson. Established longtime Saginaw vocalist Lavel Jackson serves a large presence in the background vocals. Lavel Jackson never fails to disappoint. Astray raps about how this girl lives this life of crime by participating in prostitution. This girl dates various guys everyday of the week. This girl lives the fast life which is why calling her "fast girl" is appropriate. People who live the fast life live in the fast lane.

The background vocals for War were hard. The hard background vocals is what makes the track War notable. Astray performs rap in a lyrical freestyle on the War track. Astray goes on the warpath on War. War has an aggressive mood. The lyrics from Astray on War are very aggressive which is why we can hear such aggression inside of the lyrics.

You can feel the aggression in of the lyrics on Oh No. Astray raps with such aggressive lyrics on Oh No. The aggressive mood sets Oh No apart from the other tracks on this album. Popular Saginaw rappers Astray and Agony take control as stars of this track.

Although Astray is a hit in Saginaw, Michigan, Astray is not a hit with everyone. Astray still, however, proves to have something in his lyrics through his own skillful songwriting that has something everyone can relate to. He has something for everyone. Songwriting is where Astray excels best at.

Astray demonstrates that he is young, savvy, and hungry on the Hungry album. Demeanor for his hunger and songwriters skill are there presently. His development is clearly visible. There is a difference inside the production for this Astray album. Club music meets a serious vibe on this Astray album hence the difference in sound. Although most of this album has that club music sound of the 2000s era. Up The One with Saginaw rapper Day One is a prime example of club music. Up The One has that club music sound to it. Around Here describes a day in life living in Saginaw.

Strings of Love is a complicated love song that proves to be something special. Any New Bohemians fans out there will truly appreciate this song. Strings of Love can be considered by some to be a calm soothing song to the ears. The Strings of Love song is the best New Bohemians love song. Strings of Love is Love Like We Do revisited meaning that Strings of Love is a follow-up to Love Like We Do from the Shooting Rubberbands At The Stars album.

Times Like This is a quiet song considered to be a calm soothing song. The instrumentation selection is perfectly appropriate. Times Like This is quite similar other songs on the album such as Strings of Love, Stwisted, Ghost of a Dog, He Said, and Me By The Sea.

Oak Cliff Bra is a raw mellow tune about the Oak Cliff neighborhood in Dallas, Texas. We can all obviously tell that Oak Cliff Bra is an Edie Brickell inspired cut. Oak Cliff Bra is quite similar to Stwisted due to its rawness and mellowness. It is mainly the moods that are similar to each other in retrospect. Both moods include the mellow feel.

(The digital edition of Ghost of a Dog by the New Bohemians is a few seconds slightly longer than the physical editions on CD, cassette, vinyl, USB stick, or other various media formats. Songs He Said and Carmelito are slightly longer with a few added seconds to their duration time.)

Tobin Sprout - The Universe And Me album review

Tobin Sprout is back with a brand new spanking album for the year 2017! This is his first album in 7 years as a solo artist and songwriter. Tobin Sprout himself shines brightly as a songwriter for this solo album of his. What stands out for this album is the songwriting. Tobin Sprout has improved in his songwriting skill. His songwriting skills have improved. Especially on this album! The Universe And Me is spontaneous with such bravado inside the lyrics and songwriting.

Honor Guards has a bluesy guitar feel. The distorted notes from the electric guitar used on Honor Guards gives a bluesy feel. Tobin Sprout could have possibly been inspired by Blues music while composing Honor Guards. Honor Guards is a short lively 2 minute long instrumental performed by Tobin Sprout himself. The beginning of Honor Guards will have you think the song is an instrumental. However that is not the case. Overall, Honor Guards has an organic feel.

Manifest Street is a calm organic guitar solo performed by Tobin Sprout himself. Manifest Street is stylish of the loft rock sound. Heavenly Bones seems to have a warm extroverted feel. The style seems to be upbeat.
