Mixerr Album Reviews #3

This is Michael Mixerr. I will be doing a review on Tweet's Southern Hummingbird album.

Tweet talks about if she had her boyfriend back she wouldn't complain at all on Complain. Susan Weems and Tweet both play the guitar. They both showcase their guitar playing skills on this long song. Let me say this! They ARE GOOD at it!! Complain is a great guitar ballad. It has a very country bluegrass feel to it which stands out from all the other songs on Southern Hummingbird. It's a 5 minute long song. You'll enjoy it!! Complain is another song that should have been a single. It has a lot of potential for single material.

Oops (Oh My) knocks down artistic boundaries in ALL directions because it talks about masturbation and having sex in bed. That is one cold track. Missy Elliott is on there too. This is a new school track. It blew everything else out of the water back in 2002. I can't believe that was 11 years ago! Wow!!

Motel sounds like it was based on a true story. Tweet showcases her guitar playing skills on this song. I love the acoustic guitar used on this song. Yes it is a love song. Tweet goes solo on this song. Motel is a quite heartfelt song. I can feel this song. It is great!!

Boogie 2nite is a dance track with pure old school funk and new school soul. This is one of those tracks that makes want to get up and dance. Tweet goes solo on it. Boogie 2nite is an up in the club track for you to groove to and move your hips side to side to. Boogie 2nite should have had a music video to accompany the single. I love the production even if it seems a bit distorted and unbalanced. The beats and vocals were not up to par. The vocals were a bit too low. You will still love this song either way.

Now with that said, Get Away (Move On) and Big Spenda should've been added on the retail versions instead of the initial pressings only. But I see why Elektra did this for monetary gain on the Japanese imports.

It's all based on the trials and tribulations of Tweet in what she had been through in life.
The story is that Tweet was in a 3 member group called Sugah and things didn't work out. The group had only 5 songs such as Sugah and Spice, Fly Guy, and 3 other songs. So Tweet went back to live with parents having a number of relationships and jobs. She had tried to commit suicide because she was going through severe depression at the time. In late 2000, she got a call from Missy Elliott saying that she wanted Tweet to work on Aaliyah's track with her. They knew each other since the early 90s when they were in DeVante's Swing Mob collab.  Missy's CALL was the thing that saved her life. Here's what happened; Missy wanted to sing and also a back up singer to replace Lil Mo, Gina Thompson, and Nicole Wray since they had all left. So Tweet signed to Elektra in 2000.

Her first album, Southern Hummingbird went 2x platinum and silver in 2002 with dope beats and production by the well known producer Timbaland and Souldiggaz I believe. This album had hits like Oops (Oh My), Boogie2nite, Call Me, and Smoking Cigarettes.

I rate this album, Southern Hummingbird, 5/5*****!!
