This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will do a review on Michel'le's Hung Jury album. (Her name is pronounced Michele'le (pronounced Me-Shell-Lay) Toussant.)
For those who don't know, this album was called Single Black Female before it became Hung Jury in 1998. Single Black Female was supposed to be released in 1996, but due to Suge Knight's crack addiction, stupidity, and his piss poor marketing skills the album was pushed back to 1998 and retitled Hung Jury.
Anyway, on with the album. There is a lack of her Minnie Mouse-like squeaky voice on this album unlike the last album. Which are songs like Crazy and Tonight Is. Here 4 U and Don't Say U Love Me were not the best tracks. The album is good, but not great. Single tracks were Hang Tyme, Can I Get A Witness?, Crazy, Tonight Is, and Walk With Me.
Here are my suggestions on how Hung Jury should have been marketed. Hang Tyme should have been put as the last track and Hung Jury be the first. Better production would be needed. Here 4 U and Don't Say U Love Me were not needed. Music videos for Can I Get A Witness?, Crazy, Tonight Is, and Walk With Me should have made for better promotion. Dr. Dre should have been a producer on this album. The New Jack Swing era was long over at the time this album was released.
Sadly the album did not meet up with the success of her last album 9 years prior. The album's production sounded out of date at the time it was released. As I said, The album is good, but not great. I rate this album, Hung Jury, 3 1|2/5***(.
