Mixerr Album Reviews #155

This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will review the Checkmate album by Lil Breazy. This album was released on Iced Down Records, Isolated Records, and Select-O-Hits in 2002. This album is off the hook! Lil Breazy is from Austin, Texas! Bad Guy, Check Yourself, and Everybody's Ballin' are the singles!

Bad Guy and Check Youself have that Scarface movie feel with that heavy bass and heavy drums. So does Don't Fuck With Me which features Lil Flip and has a Scarface movie sample. Just a Player is a slow downtempo dreamy soul song featuring Big Chop and Cin-A-Mon of ATV Recordz. Let Me Look At You is fast uptempo soul song featuring Big Grind and Ajax of Sam Huston Boyz (Sam Houston Boyz). Mash 4 Skrilla is a very Lone Star Texan song.

Time 2 Shine showcases both Lil Breazy and ICE's lyrical talent. I love the vocoder used on Time 2 Shine. This song was so cold. Both artists had the game on freeze. ICE was on ATV Recordz, Isolated Records, Madd Creole Entertainment, and Iced Down Records. She was from Austin, Texas.

Everybody's Ballin' is the hit single for this album! This is one of those party on the boat dock at the top of the boat jams. This jam will make you want to get up and dance! This is the bomb!! I believe a Diana Ross sample is used. This song had house parties in Austin rockin' out!

Whoever told you G-Funk and Gangsta Rap was dead, they're wrong! It just moved to the South. Listen to You Know How We Do It featuring Big Pokey from Wreckshop Records outta Houston, Texas! This is like a From Austin to Houston collaboration. It has that old 90s G-Funk sound.

You should buy this album if you already haven't!! It's that good! Take my word for it. It's too bad that Lil Breazy's career never took off. Austin Hip Hop/Rap always gets overlooked!
I rate this album, Checkmate, 5/5*****!!
