Mixerr Album Reviews #342

This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will review Yacktown Boys Club - I need a witness. This came out on Urban Ventured Music (Scotti Bros.) and Disc Makers in 1996. Anthony Williams is the executive producer for this album. Yacktown Boys Club got some love down here in Austin back in the 90s although most Michigan rap was unknown to most Texas music fans.

While Yacktown Boys Club raps about guns and dope they still keep a positive message throughout the album. That's what the track Guns-N-Dope is about. The life of a criminal an the insight of the life of a criminal. Let me explain it that way for my viewers. Ironically Guns-N-Dope promotes criminal activity rather than finding a  solution to ending crime from happening. It rather glorifies the criminal lifestyle rather than demonizing it. That's why I pointed out the symbolism in irony. That same literature elements can be said for the track Smoking On That Indo.

U Gotts To Feel It is about feeling someone go through their  struggles and relate to them. Someone from the ghetto who grew up poor can relate to a musician who grew up from the ghetto. It's also about feeling the vibe, yo. Feeling the vibe in you. Vibe is the main word in this track.
Too Tight is aimed at those playa haters out there. It's about coming up on this track. This track is straight up raw and grimey. It reminds me of early Mos Def and DJ Clay. I can hear some rock samples on this track.

"P" Homicide reflects on the crime waves that directly affect the city of Pontiac. The hard hitting low bass notes gives this track that eerie feel. "P" Homicide is straight up raw, gutta,  and grimey. It's a ghetto tech track. Pontiac is tough community to have an upbringing in. In the beginning of this track, there was a soundclip of a news broadcast about the crime going on in the city of Pontiac.

Half the album is negative and positive. The only songs I feel that were negative in anyway were I Need A Witness. Guns-N-Dope, and "P"
If Lo-Key and Summer Madness were on this album, that would have been brehsive! This album rocks!
I rate this album, I need a witness, 5/5*****!!
