This is Michael Mixerr. I will do a more extended review on Toby Keith's self-titled album from 1994.
For starters, 70% of the album is filled with love songs. Which I guess is quite common in country music. (I don't really listen to country music all that much because country is not exactly my favorite music.) I'll never know why. Which should not be a surprise.
On with the album!
Should've Been a Cowboy is about being nostalgic about life on the frontier that has led Toby to decide that he was born in the wrong era. I feel the same way when I say I was born in the wrong era too. Country music idealizes the career of a cowboys and outlaws. Not to mention Native Indians. Most of this song is deeply unoriginal despite this song being written by Toby Keith.
Ain't No Thang is quite the same. Mama Come Quick is about his childhood. The album ends with the humorous track Close But No Guitar.
All in all, the album is good. The only things I didn't like about the album were there was an unbalanced number of love songs and that some of the tracks weren't long enough. Adding a 4 minute song would have helped.
I rate this self-titled album, 4/5****!
