Many people are unaware that the Osage Nation modeled some amendments after the United States Constitution for their own constitution. The Osage Nation constitution guaranteed human rights for all genders. NOT just a select few people or the rich elite class. Most of the Osage Nation members are firm believers of hunters rights along with gun laws. In Native American Indian culture hunters rights are a firm belief. Religious freedom was guaranteed for all members of the nation as well despite having the Native American Church established on their culture and religion.
In 1881, the Osage Nation modeled some amendments after the United States Constitution for their own constitution. In 1925, US Congress passed legislation giving members tribal control of mineral rights. The year of 1994 is when the Osage Nation voted that original allottees and their direct descendants were citizen members of the nation. March 2006 is when the Osage Nation government adopted a new constitutional form of government. In March 2006 is also when a new constitution ratified and voted in. By 2011, the US Government settled litigation for $380 million for the Osage Nation. By 2014, more rights and freedoms were given by the US Government.
Many changes and political developments have happened over the years inside the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Some good, some bad. Most of the rights and freedoms given to Native American Indians by the US Government have significantly great despite bad historical scars with Indian relationships with the US Government.
