This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will review the Lil Band O' Gold album from 2000.
First You Cry has that gritty guitar sound similar to country music. Take notice of the steel pedal noise. The song First You Cry was co-produced by C.C. Adcock. The vocal work and arrangements are wonderful and superb. First You Cry laments into a mournful mood. The title itself is fitting for a sad love song. Notice the gritty sound of the steel pedal guitar here.
You can hear the Cajun music in the Cajun Twist song. Cajun Twist has the raw sound of early 60s pop . Cajun Twist is fairly similar to Zydeco music. The raw sound of The Cajun Twist song deserved to have a music video and deserved to be a single. Cajun Twist as a choice for a select single would have been an excellent idea. The song would have gotten radio play if Cajun Twist were a single. This song would have been a hot song on Louisiana radio stations. Cajun Twist is a perfect dance song!
Shirley has that raw sound of early 60s pop. Shirley is a ballad of lament and sadness in spite of being a romance ballad. The song Shirley proves to be a sad song of love lost.
Parlez Nous a Boire ('let us talk of drinking, and not of marriage') has a hard driven bass line accompanied by a kick drum with some hard-edged vocals. This song is a perfect drinking song for a romantic night. Some dancers might even tango to this song. Think slow dance.
Lil Band O' Gold bills itself as a Swamp Rock supergroup from Louisiana. Lil Band O' Gold is the rock in swamp rock! This self-titled debut album is the pinnacle of swamp rock. It's one of the best albums to come from Louisiana State.
Despite getting nationwide distribution from Shanachie, the Lil Band O Gold album was overlooked. Music fans had slept on this album leaving the band to be a regional hit only. The band should have looked into the promotional aspect of this album more than the production aspect.
I rate this album, Lil Band O' Gold, 5/5*****!!
