Mixerr Album Reviews #1,034

This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will review Coop MC - The Hilltop.

Coop MC - The Hilltop was released on Showin’ Love Records from Dallas, Texas in 2014 on cassette and vinyl in limited edition. Coop MC gives us some funky fresh, smooth laid back G-Funk material never heard before! The Hilltop was recorded from 1997 to 1999 during the Phetamine recording sessions when he recording under the name Phetamine. These tracks were never released officially until now. The Hilltop showcases the best of Fort Worth next to Twisted Black, Six2, PIG, MC E-Rock, GuGu, Erotic D, Uptight, and One Gud Cide. The Hilltop is an EP rather than an album due to its short duration of time.

Watt Up Homie has that smooth laid back G-Funk sound with a funky fresh. Ernie G produced this track giving it that Funky Town sound he well known for in the underground music scene. The monotonous bass line gives Watt Up Homie a light touch of funk. The production quality is super clean as the vocals are very clear. There are no flaws present in the vocals.

Succa Free tells us how Coop MC is staying sucker free in the 90s. So you know what time it is when Coop MC grabs the mic in this bitch. The production quality is much lower on this track than Watt Up Homie. Succa Free represents gangsta rap and G-Funk at its finest. Succa Free uses the sample of Juicy - Sugar Free. The track Succa Free seems to have a demo that was never fully mastered. For some reason, Coop MC’s vocals seem to sound very similar to the dark Brotha Lynch Hung on Succa Free.

You Need A Friend has a similar vibe to My Woman as You Need A Friend is similar to My Woman. You Need A Friend represents gangsta rap and G-Funk at its finest.

I rate this EP, The Hilltop, 5/5*****!!
