This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will review Horace Brown - Horace Brown.
By Horace Brown taking his self-titled Horace Brown album to Motown Records where Andre Harrell went on to be the co-CEO was a smart business move because his album actually saw light of day as Horace Brown finally released his self-titled album in 1994. Horace Brown left MCA and Uptown Records also due to lack of promotion, bad business, and creative control. MCA messed up on this one when they decided to release his album as a promo only. MCA was known for making bad business moves and focusing their interests on their cookie cutter boy bands and girl groups.
To be honest, Horace Brown was another one of those artists in the mid 90s that was given a bad deal. It's such a shame. He should make a comeback. (He needs too.) He should blown up on the same level as Montell Jordan was when he was on Def Jam. We as fans should have heard WAY more from Horace Brown! MCA ruined his chances of being the same level as Montell Jordan in retrospect.
The cassette and CD promo releases of the Horace Brown album on MCA/Uptown Records are the only 2 official releases from MCA. MCA/UPTC-11109 is the category # for the cassette promo of the Horace Brown album and UPT5P-11276 is the category # for the CD promo of the Horace Brown album. Some of the tracks were sourced and copied directly from the promo tape.
The cassette promo of the 1994 Horace Brown album contains an introduction based on the song Holdin' On which is on CD promo of the Horace Brown album. The introduction for Holdin' On is not included on the CD promo. However Holdin' On is included on both formats.
Taste Your Love had lukewarm sales as the lead single which led MCA to shelve the debut Horace Brown album. Taste Your Love had a smooth soulful R&B sound. Horace wasn't far behind when he was performing and recording this song at the time.
Just Let Me Know has differently arranged vocals. Just Let Me Know as another lead single flopped on the charts failing to reach high numbers.
