History of Jackson School in Flint, Michigan forgotten.

Jackson School is one the many forgotten schools of Flint, Michigan. Not many people know about this school or are aware this school even existed. This school more or less has been forgotten and faded away with time.

Jackson School was built in 1965 and first opened in 1966 as an elementary school. The school building was built as a one story red brick building. This school building was built on a 16-room floor play layout. Grades 1-3 were educated in 2 rooms and grades 4-6 were educated in another room.

In 1967, Anderson School (Anderson Elementary School) opened to accommodate the growing enrollment of Flint Community Schools school district. Enrollment dwindled for Jackson School by 1967. In 1970, Flint Community Schools administrators made decisions to close Jackson School. Jackson School closed in 1972.

For several years, the nearby Northern High School used the building as a storage building for sports equipment. Overtime the building would be a shared storage building. The building would serve as a storage building for Anderson School and Northern High School.

An aerial map from 1999 shows Jackson School falling into ruins thus resulting into a state of urban decay. Holes can be seen at the northern end of the building. 2 holes on the roof were shown on the aerial map from 1999. So it is possible by 1995 that the school district stopped using the building letting it fall into a state of ruin beyond repair. It is unknown exactly when the school district stopped using this building.

Jackson School is located at the junction of Begole Street & McCollum Avenue, Flint, Michigan, US 48504.
