Short history of Wrede School history in Fredericksburg, Texas almost forgotten.

A man named of Friedrich von Wrede owned the land on which this school was built. The wood school building was built in 1896 from lumber hauled by wagon from Comfort, Texas. Classes for this began on October 15, 1896. A hand dug well supplied water for the school. The salary for a teacher in 1896 was $28 per month.

1st grade students were taught English while 6th grade students learned French and Spanish. Speaking in German language was forbidden on school grounds. That was especially true during World War II.  Most students did not speak English when they entered 1st grade.

Pedernales School and Bear Creek school were consolidated with Wrede School in July 1949. Wrede School was a two-teacher school from 1949 to 1959. By 1959 teachers received $288 per month. Wrede School had been through 24 teachers during its 64 years of operating time. June 11, 1960 is when Wrede School consolidated with Fredericksburg ISD.

The school was also used as a community center where the people parties and dances. This where people would get together for parties and dances, but mostly dances. Elections were held at this schoolhouse. Extension Homemakers Club and 4-H Club held meetings here when they had rented space.

Wrede School is located at the location of 3828 TX 16, Fredericksburg, Texas, US 78624.
