Mixerr Album Reviews #1,757

Tweet - Tweet CD Sampler was released as Missy Elliott & Timbaland Present Tweet (CD Sampler) in 2001 by GoldMind and Elektra to promote her 2002 debut album Southern Hummingbird. The whole album sampler was produced by music geniuses Missy Elliott and Timbaland. Missy Elliott served as the presenter and narrator where she’s guided and thoroughly explained each song to the listeners.

Tweet is multidimensional with her acoustic guitar. Tweet is a blend of old school soul, neo-soul, and new school hip hop. The production is sultry smooth and so are her vocals. Her songs are guitar driven sultry love songs. Her songwriting is passionate. A lot of these songs are based on her life experiences. Either way, this album sampler is off the hook!

Now for those who don’t remember, Tweet was the newest addition to Missy's Goldmind Inc. in 2000 and 2002. She was the tenth artist to sign to Goldmind Inc.

The CD samplers for the Southern Hummingbird album have different tracklistings and different catalog codes. Tweet ‎– Southern Hummingbird (The Sampler) has the catalog code of “Elektra ‎– PRCD 1799-2” and  Tweet ‎– Missy Elliott & Timbaland Present Tweet (CD Sampler) has the catalog code of “Elektra ‎– PRCD 1720-2”. Both editions were issued in the format of a cardboard sleeve.

Now onto the musical aspect of this album review.

The Intro starts off with Missy Elliott telling us why we should buy Tweet's album, what the songs are, and what the fans should expect from the Southern Hummingbird album. Missy Elliott gets into her testimony about this sampler.

Motel sounds like it was based on a true story. Tweet showcases her guitar playing skills on this song. I love the acoustic guitar used on this song. Yes it is a love song. Tweet goes solo on this song. You can feel this great song as you listen to it.

Boogie 2nite is a dance track with pure old school funk and new school soul. This is one of those tracks that makes want to get up and dance. Tweet goes solo on it. Boogie 2nite is an up in the club track for you to groove to and move your hips side to side to. Boogie 2nite should have had a music video to accompany the single. I love the production even if it seems a bit distorted and unbalanced. The beats and vocals were not up to par. The vocals were a bit too low. You will still love this song either way.

Oops (Oh My) knocks down artistic boundaries in ALL directions because it talks about masturbation and having sex in bed. That is one cold track. Missy Elliott is on there too. This is a new school track. It blew everything else out of the water back in 2002.

Best Friend was a soulful duet with neo-soul singer Bilal. Both of them bring out the sultry flavors of funk and soul on this song. Neo-soul is one term perfect enough to describe this song.

My Place is a calm, sultry guitar driven soul song with a neo-soul touch. Her calm angelic vocals blend in perfectly well with the mellow vibe for this song. The instrumentation arrangement does not overlap her vocals in any form. You can both her vocals and the instruments perfectly as they are both equally balanced.

Smoking Cigarettes is a perfect song to play at night. The calm soothing vibe of this song says so otherwise. Smoking Cigarettes has a similar mood and vibe to My Place. At the time when she wrote this song, she was smoking 3 packs of cigarettes a day. She was in an unsteady tumultuous relationship with a man. The only way she felt she could cope was to smoke.

I rate this sampler, 5/5*****!!
