History of NuSounz in Flint, Michigan explored.

NuSounz is one of Flint’s most forgotten music stores next to Serious Sounds, Musical Memories, Nick's Records & Tapes (aka Nick’s Tapes & Records), Wyatt Earp Records, Blue Note Records, and Boomin’ Records. Not much history of NuSounz has been preserved or even remembered. This news article will explore and explain some of the history about NuSounz.

Donald Taylor and Wayne Smith first opened NuSounz in October 1990 as Don’s Nu-Sounz (Don’s NuSounz) on Flint Park Boulevard (Flint Park Blvd) in the Flint Park neighborhood of Flint, Michigan. Donald Taylor was the owner and CEO of NuSounz. Wayne Anthony Smith was an entrepreneur of NuSounz who handled the business side of things along with finances. Wayne himself loved the music industry. NuSounz was considered as a mom and pop shop which had the hottest mixtapes in the Flint Park neighborhood. The mixtapes of Flint were said to be sold at NuSounz. The Alien Planet compilation is one example as that compilation was packaged as a mixtape.

The Variety of Sinz third album Jealousy Begins sold well at NuSounz in 1995. Jealousy Begins was a bestseller for NuSounz at that time. Over several hundred units of that Variety of Sinz album were sold at that NuSounz store owned by Donald Taylor. Several thousand units of Alien Planet were sold out of NuSounz too.

Business for NuSounz slowed down in 2000 due to digital downloads and streaming. This is what lead to the decline of NuSounz. Donald Taylor decided to shut down NuSounz in 2002 and pursue in other business ventures. Yelp has listed NuSounz as permanently closed. (Ref: https://www.yelp.com/biz/nu-sounz-flint)
