If the City of Creedmoor claimed and purchased the property of Creedmoor School in 1968 after Del Valle Independent School District consolidated Creedmoor Common School District, then the Creedmoor School have been saved as a historic landmark. Sadly a lack of cooperation from Dorothy Brock kept the school from being given a Texas Historic Landmark marker. Dorothy Brock, Del Valle ISD, and City of Creedmoor are to blame for letting a historic landmark fall through their hands.
Del Valle ISD sold the 1 story school building to a woman named Dorothy Brock (Dorothy Loveless Brock) and her husband in 1978. They lived together in a trailer next to the school building from 1984 to 1991. Dorothy Brock lived in a trailer from 1984 to 1995.
A couple of mobile homes, which consisted of 3 trailers, were moved onto the property in 1984. She wanted to move her mobile home onto her property on FM 1327. She wanted to put in a ’16 x 32’ house. There were no objections from council members. (Ref: https://cityofcreedmoortx-my.sharepoint.com/:b:/g/personal/communitycenter_cityofcreedmoortx_gov/EQWjZU9lXBREu9kQ8ujUj28Bo2uCuFEyRE6NA0oc-zgOVg)
Developers, architects, and engineers attempted to save the Creedmoor School and have the school be given a Texas Historic Landmark in 1986. Eugene Wukasch was one of the architects interested in preserving what was then Creedmoor Elementary School. He showed much interest in preserving the school as a historic landmark. He wanted the school to be given a Texas Historic Landmark marker.
However due to lack of cooperation from Dorothy Brock, this never happened the building fell into disrepair. She had no interest or desire on preserving the school building. In fact, she was very much resistant to the idea.
By 1986, the school building fell into a state of disrepair and needed much extensive renovation. Many repairs needed to be made. Much alteration would have to be done. The roof was leaking and needed repairing. Wall structures were determined to be sound. The restrooms needed new stalls. Mainly the roof is what needed repairing the most out of anything else that needed repaired. Nothing else really needed to be done.
If the school was preserved, everything would need to be followed under stringent guidelines in order for this to be done. This would have included repairs, modifications, and alterations.
Dennis Wilhite purchased the property from Dorothy Brock in 2001. The property was sold through a warranty deed. He has been property owner since then.
A public hearing regarding the old Creedmoor School was held on the date of June 16, 2005. The A public hearing began at 7:45. Dennis Wilhite requested re-zoning his property from residential to light industrial. Dennis explained that he has pared down his project to one 50 x 120 building to be used for residence, office and shop space for construction equipment.
Alderman Craig Harris questioned what was happening with the old Creedmoor school. Mayor Robert Wilhite said the old Creedmoor School was falling down and was a safety hazard. Dennis Wilhite had demolished the school building sometime that year. He removed the debris himself. By then the school structure was falling into disrepair.
On August 18, 2005, a board meeting was held where Dennis Wilhite requested re-zoning his property from residential to light industrial. Dennis wanted to construct three buildings that will be used for office space in the front portions and storage units in the rear portions of each building. The center building would have an upstairs that could be used for on-site manager or for office space. Dennis asked for appropriate zoning and variances for 25 foot setbacks on both sides and the rear, as well as a variance to have a residence in a light industrial zoning for the on-site manger.
