The sounds of garage rock, punk, and rockabilly all meet each other on The Gr'ups self-titled EP. Think garage rock with a punk edge and sound. The only downside is most of these songs are less than 3 minutes long. These songs are very short which is not unusual for garage rock or punk. Nevertheless the lyrics are average at best.
Almond Tree tells the tragic tale about mother who wanted son and a father who married a second wife. Murder is the theme for this song. A mother wanted a son. She gave birth to a son and then died. So the father married a second wife. He hated his son because he had his mother’s eyes. The father and second wife murdered the son and performed acts of cannabalism on him. All his bones were buried under the almond tree. It was revenge by death.
Oink deals with racism of police. The Gr'ups tell it like it is. Cops are your friends and they’ll protect you if you’re white. If you are any other color than white, then police are not your friends. This song is still relevant today. Cops are still racist.
I rate this EP 3/5***.
