Exploring the lost history of Glasscock Cemetery II in Manor, Texas with Mixerr.

Glasscock Cemetery II is one the many forgotten cemeteries of Travis County and Manor. Not too much history is known or can be discovered about this cemetery. Glasscock Cemetery II was also known as Glasscock Cemetery #2 and Glasscock Cemetery No. 2.

Glasscock Cemetery II was established in 1837 by George J. Glasscock on the Glasscock Ranch at the corner of Burleson-Manor Road and FM 969 as a family cemetery outside the small town of Webberville. There were only 4 graves at first with burials being all members of the Glasscock family who lived on the Glasscock Ranch. The cemetery expanded in 1847. Biron Glasscock was possibly the first person to be buried in Glasscock Cemetery II. He was buried at Glasscock Cemetery II in 1840.

According to a quarterly newsletter from Austin Genealogical Society (AGS), William D. Glasscock was likely to be buried in Glasscock Cemetery II when he died in June 1853. Oddly enough his burial had no marker or gravestone. [Ref: http://www.austintxgensoc.org/data/1996.3.pdf, AGS Quarterly Volume XXXVII, No. 3 (September 1996)]

According to the same quarterly newsletter from Austin Genealogical Society, Mahala Tombaugh Glasscock was the last person to be buried at Glasscock Cemetery II. Her burial is the most recent burial for this cemetery. Mahala Tombaugh Glasscock was listed as being buried in Glasscock Cemetery II in 1941. [Ref: http://www.austintxgensoc.org/data/1996.3.pdf, AGS Quarterly Volume XXXVII, No. 3 (September 1996)]

George J. Glasscock was buried in Glasscock Cemetery #2 in 1875. His burial was 1 of the 2 burials that took place during the 1870s. (Ref: http://www.austintxgensoc.org/data/1995.4.pdf)

Find A Grave reported Glasscock Cemetery II as “very likely no longer exists” as this cemetery was almost completely destroyed in 1974. Glasscock Cemetery II was almost completely destroyed by a homeowner who was building their house on their property near the corner of Burleson-Manor Road and FM 969. The land was graveled and repaved by a homeowner after building their house. The gravestones had been destroyed. There was evidence that other gravestones existed at this cemetery. After long hours of researching land deeds and transfers from the Travis County Clerk records and Travis CAD records, Michael Mixerr has discovered Glasscock Cemetery II is all but gone due to new development around the property.

Glasscock Cemetery II was located at 18016 FM 969, Manor, Texas, US 78653.
