Here is what the building at 1050 Bandera Road in San Antonio, Texas originally once was.



 

The building at 1050 Bandera Road in San Antonio, Texas was originally a Whopper Burger that was constructed in 1968. This building was originally a Whopper Burger location called Whopper Burger No. 18 which operated from 1968 to 1985. The management switched hands a number of times. An existing chain link fence was already built around the perimeter of this Whopper Burger building prior to 1968. The chain link fence was located at the Northwest lot and Northeast lot. Built at an interior angle 89ยบ 59’ 20” with a distance of 176 feet. (Ref: Bexar County Deeds, Volume 6592, Page 1360)

William B Sides and his wife Barbara N Sides would be the owners of the property while Whopper Burger and Whataburger would rent from them. William B Sides and his wife Barbara N Sides would own this property from 1969 to 1995. Whopper Burger entered a lease agreement in 1969. (Ref: Bexar County Deeds, Volume 3280, Page 793)

 


The building would be home to Whataburger from 1985 to 1991. Whataburger used this location for little more than 5 years.

The building served as BATES BURGER BOY NO 21 from 1991 to 2002. BATES BURGER BOY NO 21 would lease from the owner until 2002. Here BATES BURGER BOY NO 21 was a well renown fast food joint. John F. Kleibrink Jr. sold the property to Raul Moreno and Genoveva Alvarez through the transfer of a deed on 6/29/1995. Genoveva Alvarez became the official owner of this property in 1995. Genoveva Alvarez sold a portion of the property to the State of Texas for expansion of Bandera Road (SPUR 421) on the date of April 4, 2002. Bandera Road was widened in 2002. 2 real estate liens were filed against Genoveva Alvarez by the City of San Antonio in 2008 for graffiti abatement which was considered to be a public nuisance. The graffiti was painted over in 2009 to comply with the real estate lien for graffiti abatement. Genoveva Alvarez already had the building secured shut with plywood by that time.

 

 

Today this building sits abandoned under the ownership of Genoveva Alvarez. Genoveva Alvarez is the current owner of this building and property.
