History behind Swanky Trailer Park in Galveston, Texas explored.

Between the armpit of 61st Street and I 45 was once a miniscule trailer park called Swanky Trailer Park was one of the lesser known trailer parks of Galveston, Texas which only locals knew about.

Swanky Trailer Park first opened up at the location of 1003 63rd Street, Galveston, Texas in the year of 1949 on land that was owned by L. Rodgers. Swanky Trailer Park first appeared in an advertisement in the local newspaper in 1949. 1952 was the year Swanky Trailer Park moved to 6303 Avenue J (now 6303 Broadway). Swanky Trailer Park allowed furnished mobile homes to rent their lots for a price of $150 monthly plus deposit. Many of these trailers were air-conditioned. Charges for noncompliance have were filed in municipal court against three trailer parks which were Swanky Trailer Park, Celli Mobile Home Park, and West Oak Mobile Home Park in 1987. “The council also received a report on compliance by mobile home-travel trailer park owners with city landscaping regulations. G.M.R. Reason, compliance officer, said six of the parks are in compliance, with a like number either in non-compliance or working on meeting the requirements. Reason said charges for noncompliance have been filed in municipal court against three of the parks. These are Swanky Trailer Park, 6327 Broadway; Celli Mobile Home Park, 6201 Broadway; and West Oak Mobile Home Park, Homrighaus and Zinglemann roads. Conviction carries a fine of up to $1,000 per day, with each day a separate offense.”



 

Swanky Trailer Park made a business decision to merge into Blue Bayou Mobile Home Park in the year of 1988. This put an end to Swanky Trailer Park. Blue Bayou Mobile Home Park would shut down in 2010.
