Mia X - Sista Stories album review

Sista Stories showcased the raw sista side of Mia X which was written from a sista's point of view and perspective. Mia X shares her experience about womanhood in form of rap. Tales of conflict and tales of confusion are told. It's also about dealing with pain during the struggle of life. For those who don't know, Sista Stories picks up where Unladylike left off. Which is what Mia X intended. In fact, Sista Stories revisits Unladylike in a more explicit manner. Sista Stories was an album that came from No Limit Records. While Sista Stories did not get an official release, a few promo copies were pressed up for record company executives to review.

This No Limit album is different as there are not as many radio friendly tracks on this album. Only 3 of the 17 tracks that were on this album are radio friendly. Mia X decided to take a more darker explicit approach when recording this album. While album seems to have a Burlesque theme, Mia X might have been inspired by R. Kelly during the time. She brought out that raw uncut hip hop sound with this album.

Mia X did a remake of the 1987 Cover Girls hit Show Me. Show Me was one of the 3 radio friendly cuts that were on the album. Master P lent a hand in production of course. The remake is filled with rawness of course. Mia X did a good job.

Somethin New featured Devin The Dude and No Limit Top Dogg Snoop Dogg when he was in his prime. Somethin New was a funky smooth cut with the loopy Devin The Dude to add in with the quirkiness.

Uncle Kracker - Double Wide album review

Some of you know may know Uncle Kracker as the Kid Rock protégé from the 2000s era for which he is famous for. Double Wide was dubbed one of the 25 most anticipated albums of 2000 by Alternative Press. Kid Rock produced nearly the entire album along with help from a handful of few producers. The legitimacy of Uncle Kracker never fails to amaze his audience. That is what keeps him garnering a solid fan base to this day. The legitimacy of this album is what won over fans and Uncle Kracker being affiliated with Kid Rock.

Jello Biafra - I Blow Minds for a Living album review

Jello Biafra takes a stance against the hypocrisy of censorship and how censorship is a threat to freedom in the United States on this spoken word album of his. Jello Biafra also debates how censorship is a threat to freedom in other countries as well. Censorship is threatening our freedom. Especially in our post 9/11 world which is slowly becoming a police state! Ever since 1986, Jello has been a strong opponent of censorship which can be traced back to the Frankenchrist trial regarding the Dead Kennedys album cover which eventually led to an obscenity trial.

Also, Jello Biafra pushes for electoral reform all over the album. Take the track Running For Mayor where Jello Biafra discusses an escapade where he ran for Mayor in San Francisco, California back in 1979. While his beliefs and ideologies are considered to be outrageous by the general public, Jello’s political viewpoints are on point.

Jello Biafra quotes the famous social philosopher George Santayana, "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." We are currently dealing with everything regarding the George Santayana quote. I Blow Minds for a Living is just as relevant today as it was at the time of release.

Mike D. Chill - Straight Pimp Shit album review

Mike D. Chill is the Colorado equivalent of Too Short. You can tell from that statement by looking at the title of this album called Straight Pimp Shit. Straight Pimp Shit is a classic in both Colorado rap and Denver rap. Straight Pimp Shit is a Denver classic. Every track on this album is sample crazy since it came out in the 90s. Straight Pimp Shit was released on cassette by Kut-N-Kru Records from Denver, Colorado in 1994.

The Quick Intro is an introduction that disses DJ Quik for what he said on his track Jus Lyke Compton. Mike D. Chill retaliates against DJ Quik by shooting him at the end of this introduction for what he said. Also The Quick Intro samples DJ Quik - Jus Lyke Compton. Ironically the intro pays tribute to DJ Quik.

Last Breath is a mix n mash hodgepodge of Eazy-E tracks. Take notice of the dope sample of Eazy-E on here as you listen to Last Breath. The Last Breath is a brash loopy ode to the plant marijuana. Mike D. Chill disses DJ Quik again on Last Breath. Quick didn’t think Denver was a strong city. Last Breath samples No Parking (On the Dance Floor) by Midnight Star.

Mike D. Chill relinquishes to us by coming at us with a mixture of funk and hip hop on the track Comin At Ya. Funk meets hip hop and rap on Comin At Ya. Samples of breakbeats along with turntablism can be heard on Comin At Ya. Comin At Ya is similar to Straight Jackin’ by Ruff-N-Rugged. Take notice of the dope sample of Dr. Dre on Comin At Ya.

Mike D. Chill experiments with sexual rap on 1-900 DJ Mike D Chill. Mike D. Chill is the Colorado equivalent of Too Short. You can tell from that statement by looking at the title of this album called Straight Pimp Shit and the title of this particular track of course.

Bad Mutha Fucka is the weakest track on the album. A Michael Jackson sample over a gangsta rap track is not always the best or brightest idea. The Michael Jackson sample has blend in with the production mix in order to be perfect. Percussion from the processed drum machine somewhat makes the track annoying. The percussion does not blend in with the mix of The Michael Jackson sample.

Welfed - Down Home Greens album review

Down Home Greens is another yet prolific album by Welfed that was released on cassette by Po-Man Records/Rouse Records, Inc. in 1996. What is completely different about this Welfed album is that there more tracks on this album than his previous debut effort. Spoken word meets hip hop on the Down Home Greens album. The Down Home Greens album is a hip hop album with a soulful sound. In other words, the hip hop on this Welfed album has a soulful sound.

The Soul Intro is a spoken word introduction performed by Welfed. The Soul Intro is hip hop with a soulful sound. However despite being a hip hop track with a soulful sound, there are no instruments used in this introduction.

On Family, Welfed states it would be cool if we stuck together like a family. Rich or poor, we all need family. Welfed visualizes as he has a small family that big unconditional love in any range of size. Welfed shares all the wisdom he holds inside of himself. He shares his wisdom with the youth. Enjoy your family. Cherish your family. Welfed clearly enjoys spreading his wisdom.

Welfed makes it happen on Make It Happen. Early on, Make It Happen turns in a heavy brigade of heavy bass. A small ensemble of percussion is used to accompany the heavy brigade of heavy bass. Make It Happen is a lyrical freestyle being that the track is a freestyle ridden heavy with lyricism.

Parable Of 3 MC's is a posse cut on the Down Home Greens album. Welfed, Aslaam, and Ordaind represent the Parable Of 3 MC’s. The Parable Of 3 MC’s is a poor man’s ideology. A jazz sample is used in the background to accompany this track. The whole track is dope!

N.A.P. (Surprise) is another Welfed track ridden with heavy bass and a small ensemble of percussion. N.A.P. (Surprise) deals with the social issues and political problems African Americans face in the United States. Hip hop with a soulful sound is one way to describe the N.A.P. (Surprise) track.

M-Child - Gon’ Madd album review

M-Child is a rapper from Memphis, Tennessee who was featured on a lot of Prophet Posse releases. The album was advertised in Gangsta Blac's "Can It Be" album. MC Mack lends a hand in production as he does with all the other Prophet albums. There were a lot of terrible weak tacks on this album.  The production was monotonous and bland. Gon’ Madd did not live up to the expected hype Memphis rap fans anticipated.

Parafanellya - The Product EP review

Parafanellya - The Product is a unique EP that dropped from the Flint rap scene in the late 90s. The Product is a byproduct from a forgotten era. Of course this led the cassette EP to be extraneously and extremely overlooked by fans of rap music at that time. People slept on Parafanellya. Flint rap in general such as Parafanellya, Quala D, B-Mad, The Next Level, Variety Of Sinz, DOA, Took N Bone, FOD, Lyric, Guttt Control, and GAN is overlooked for whatever the reasons may be.

Parafanellya proves that revenge is sweet on Sweet Revenge. Sweet Revenge is a gangsta rap track influenced by old school hip hop sound making Sweet Revenge a phat track! The bass is both hyphy and phat! His rhyming scheme is perfect which blends in appropriately with this track. Using convenience store products you would see in a gas station such as Hershey’s, Twix, or Almond Joy as characters in a rap song was inventive. That’s how Sweet Revenge stand out. Flint rapper Kode Blue guest stars on Sweet Revenge.

Parafanellya reminisces about them niggaz used to fade Kode Blue back in the days. Way back in the day, there was constant gang banging taking place in Flint, Michigan. Kode Blue dealt with the scariest, most fierce people around the way. Kode Blue is caught up in the midst & mix of gang activity.

Here is how the story begins…
Kode Blue bumps into someone named Twix. Twix didn’t like Kode Blue as he had a grudge against him. He wanted to kill Kode Blue and Hershey. Kode Blue did not pay attention to Twix even though he posed a strong threat. Twix was standing in the wrong set. So Kode Blue kept walking. So now Kode Blue caught a round of bullets.

Now we are located at Hershey’s pad. Kode Blue told Hershey what happened during the incident. A scheme is thought up of to murder Twix. The posse rounds up two other members for their team. Kode Blue gets on the telephone to call others.

Kode Blue heads to the liquor store to purchase beer as he is thirsty. Suddenly Kode Blue gets into a beef/fight with 3 other people in the parking lot of the liquor store. Those 3 people represent 3 Musketeers. Somehow they found out Twix and Kode Blue had a disagreement. The fight turns into a 3 on 1 fight. Out of the blue comes Milky Way and Snickers. Milky Way let off a round of bullets. The sound of bullets made everybody scatter. The posse heads to Hershey’s crib to drink their 40’s. Now we are located at a spot behind the alley. The posse needs some artillery for the fight. The plan was in effect.

Twix was at a phone booth cussing out his girlfriend Babe Ruth. (Babe Ruth was a crack head who was addicted to cocaine.) The couple had a baby named Almond Joy. In comes his partner Bounty. Bounty was the only one in Twix gang that had some nuts. (Twix didn’t really have any nuts.) Bounty kept it low key by keeping a low profile because Twix trusted him. He had his trust. Now Bounty and Twix were a gang of their own. In their gang, they had others as well.

Everyone is loading their artillery. The other gang was caught slipping. At this point in the story, Kode Blue and Hershey let loose with the tec’s. A bloodbath descends quickly. The fight is over. Revenge is sweet. Revenge is so damn sweet.

The Ghetto Thru A Microscope is about Parafanellya’s perspective of the ghetto because he comes from a low income neighborhood. The Ghetto Thru A Microscope takes the listener on a journey through Parafanellya’s viewpoints and perspective of the ghetto while at the same time, he dissects problem that plague ghettos. Through the track, Parafanellya discusses daily life in the ghetto as he takes the listeners through the ghetto and about what goes on in daily life in the ghetto. Those who live in the ghetto on daily basis face a never ending cycle of misery, hopelessness, and poverty. It’s a never ending cycle of misery, hopelessness, and a vicious cycle of poverty when you live in the ghetto.

Parafanellya is sick of living a life of misery, hopelessness, and poverty. It’s hard for him, but he tries to cope living in the ghetto. He still thinks it is hopeless though to cope with living in a cycle of poverty and misery. He still thinks it’s hopeless in a sense that way. So now… Parafanellya kicks back and examines the ghetto through a microscope.

Parafanellya quotes “ The ghetto is like an ocean that’s always trying to drown me.” in a metaphorical sentence such as this one. Take notice by paying close attention to the metaphysics of this sentence. The ghetto is an ocean that will drown you in a metaphorical sense. Inside this ghetto is an ocean is a cycle of poverty and a cycle of misery with the hopelessness that comes along with it in the long run. With hopelessness comes sadness which is what the track The Ghetto Thru A Microscope revolves around. The Ghetto Thru A Microscope revolves around ghetto related topics. Poverty, urban decay, misery, hopelessness, sadness, and violence will drown you when if you live in the ghetto.

But Parafanellya stays afloat by keeping his head above water. He sees too many people loosing their lives on a daily basis in the ghetto due to the violence that is rampant in such ghetto neighborhoods. Just the other day he saw someone put in critical condition due to a gunshot wound. It was from the aftermath of violence at a nightclub. When Parafanellya walks through his neighborhood, he feels like he is in Beirut or Iraq. The city Flint is in pure terror. Violence is steady rising.

Parafanellya cannot travel outside of Flint, Michigan because of the cycle of poverty he surrounded in while living in the ghetto. The ghetto is the only place he traveled on the planet Earth. His family reunion was the liquor store on the corner. His mother is determined to be all that she can be. She has degree from going to college but is held back by society somehow.

Hott Life is another gangsta rap track included on this EP about living life in the fast lane while living life on the edge. Parafanellya lives his life on the edge on a day to day basis while living life in the fast lane. However living the fast life is not always cracked up to be. Living the fast life and life in the fast lane has its gory shares of its natural consequences. Hott Life has a sample of The Boy Is Mine by Brandy & Monica.

Rap group Outlawz have resurface to resurrect the West Coast rap game with the album Living Legendz on Black Market Records for 2016. The album has solid bangers back to back! This Outlawz album transcends both East Coast and West Coast styles. The lyrics have substance in them. It is hard to find an album that lyrics have substance and sustanance in them these days. Living Legendz is album true to hip hop and rap. Outlawz do not need numerous videos to promote this album because they keep it underground.

Blahzay Rose - Broken EP EP review

Whoop Whoop to all you ICP & juggalo fans!
The highly controversial yet popular Blahzay Rose from the underworld relinquishes us with a new EP for 2016/2017 from Psychopathic Records. Blahzay Rose has been making a name for herself with help of Psychopathic Records and this EP. Blahzay Rose relinquishes out a raw no holds barred attitude with her scary ass rhymes on this EP. Much of the songs on this EP deal with depression, suicide, and rejection. Shit gets deep and real on this EP. Psychopathic Records is very proud of her as in the Hatchet Herald.

Bulimic Becky deals with the tale about a sorrowful girl named Becky who suffers from bulimia. For quite some time now apparently, Becky has been dealing with bulimia. The song gets graphic in nature. Loosing weight takes its place as Becky can only tolerate so much teasing. Her depression had basically been crippling her lately. Blahzay Rose represents Bulimic Becky.

Raped at 15 combats child abuse. The person who was raped at 15 was molested at the same time. Blahzay Rose represents the person who was raped in the song. Raped at 15 is an incredibly visual song as Violent J put it.
