This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will do an album review on Jayo Felony's most underrated album. Which has that 2000s sound. This one is another good one.
The album starts out with the movie excerpt sounding as if it were a sample from a horror movie. (Which is the introduction song Cop Killer.) Thunder roars very loudly in the beginning. You can hear footsteps in puddles. You can hear the crickets chirping in the darkness of the night. Excerpts from violin which sound as if they were sampled from an excerpt of songs from a Classical music opera in the middle of the introduction. You can hear heavy breathing. (Which has been heard lightly.) The cars doors are being lightly shut so no one hears them whomever is getting out. There are two people. As the two are getting out of the car, a police office yells out "Freeze!" "Get your hands up!". Another officer sends a message through the dispatcher in the police car stating that a police officer is down.
Whatcha Provin is a song about the lil homies (younger generation) patrollin' (gang banging) the streets. It's all about coming up. Also it's about how everyone wants to be hardcore these days when they really aren't. Nobody can prove anything. Du Lo Gang is about Jayo Felony's gang along with gang affiliation. Which are Crips for those who are gangsta rap fans. Du Lo Gang is composed of San Diego rappers Bay Loc, Baby Skar, C.C., and C-Hecc. With woofing and heavy-hitting bass. (Which is very hard.)
All Day & All Night is about partying. Which is a party track of course. It's about getting high and getting drunk. Smoking bud and drinking all day and all night. You & Me is a skit, about a couple arguing about sex and obedience. The wife or lover wants the man to obey her. The skit fits in very well with the next song. The g-funk Mandingo track comes up next. This one is about sex with females.
True Stories is a song that tells it all about street life. My Name in Your Mouth is not that good of song. But don't let it change your thoughts about the album. I think Flow 4 Ya is very impressive! That's On me is about him.
This album was released around 1999/2000 on Eureka Records (Koch Records [Koch Distribution which is now E1 & eOne Distribution.]) For those who don't know Underground was a collection of 10 song from 1998-2000. Which was material recorded in between Whatcha Gonna Do? and Crip Hop. Underground was an album that was not supposed to be released. (Jayo Felony said so himself.) But Koch Records (now E1), T-Mix, and T-Funk compiled ten songs from the studio and did it anyway. After Jayo Felony found out as he told his lawyer, the lawyer requested the Underground album be taken off the shelves probably due to the fact Jayo Felony was still under contract with Def Jam, JMJ, Sony, and Columbia. (Sony and Columbia are the distributors for Def Jam.)
Aside from the legal problems, let's get back on track. If you were expecting a mainstream guest-filled tracks on the album as the last one was in 1998, you will be in for some disappointment. The production is mainly done by DJ Silk. DJ Silk is doing good work on the beats as usual. Jayo's flow throughout the whole album makes Underground really worth it! You'll want to check this one out! No weak tracks!
This album was very underrated! No weak tracks as I said before. 2 classics songs. The others (8 songs) are very good. I rate this album, Underground, 5/5*****!
