Mixerr Album Reviews #238

This is Michael Mixerr. I will review Santee - Out The Pen To Win. In case you didn't know, Out The Pen To Win was done after Santee got out of the Huntsville State Prison (Huntsville Unit) in 1996. This album was released on CD by PRC Recordings out of San Antonio, Texas. I love the Doodooism sound on album! (Doodooism is a rap sub-genre of heavy bass and heavy guitar on rap & hip-hop.)

Out The Pen To Win is about Santee quitting the life of crime and going legit like Jake The Flake. For example a legit job and not selling drugs or robbing innocent people. Santee is going to make a success in the underground rap world. Santee had made this song right after he had just gotten out of prison.

Mobbin' Music has that early 90s Bay Area Mobb Music/gangsta rap sound to it. A great song to listen to in a low rider while you’re in traffic. Hearing Mobb Music on a Texas rap album was completely a different experience for me.

Smoked Filled Room is a great song for a smoke session. To get your smoke on to. So toke away playas. Reminds me of C-Ordell's song of the same name from his 1994 debut solo album on BLVD Records. C-Ordell should have been on this album.
Step To The Mic is a freestyle song. So is What's Your Skills. 312 is an ok song. Tripple Gold is about them Dayton rims. Santee Is The One is another good track. PRC Rules is also!

I love the basement production sound done on this album. It gives the album that mysterious eerie sinking feel. Too bad Lil Sin wasn't on any of the tracks. Santee's albums are impossible to find even in Texas along with all the other albums PRC Recordings has put out over the years! Only 3,300 copies of this album exist.

I rate this album, Out The Pen To Win, 5/5*****!
