Today the Anonna Elementary School (Annona School) in Anonna, Texas lays vacant abandoned. Its structure still stands vacant after consolidating into Clarksville ISD 32 years ago. Many were upset and shaken by this change.
In 1987, Anonna Elementary School (Annona School) was abandoned after its consolidation into Clarksville ISD after it was decided Annona ISD and the town of Annona, Texas could no longer function both a high school and an elementary school. The demise had been predicted years ago. Declining enrollment and stringent curriculum requirements in Texas public schools. Only about 75 students attended the school prior to closure. After consolidation, high school students were sent to Clarksville High School. The red brick school building for Anonna Elementary School became abandoned shortly afterwards.
Clarksville Times reported on April 14, 2018 that the Annona School Homecoming was held on Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm at the McKenzie Methodist Church Family Life Center in Clarksville, Texas. (Ref: County Calendar, Clarksville Times, March 18, 2018)
