Inhumane conditions recorded to have plagued DC Village Infirmary.

What was intended as a nursing home for the elderly became a dumping ground for patients coming from other closed hospitals in the area located on sprawling hospital campus. The intentions of DC Village Infirmary were good, yet somehow had went sour.

DC Village Infirmary was a nursing home for elderly patients originally, but later became a homeless shelter. By then DC Village Infirmary served as a home for elderly patients and the homeless. Patients of the nursing home were living with bedbug-infested mattresses, mattresses were found on the floor, dormitories had been vehemently overrun by insects, quality of life, and poor food. Some patients even had scabies infections. Insect infestations were spread across the campus. DC Village Infirmary had non-functioning air-conditioning and heating units making it difficult for the patients to function.

DC Village ran illegally for years even with the city trying to shut it down. The city of Washington DC allowed DC Village to run all those years because of the lack of available healthcare options in that area during that time. DC Village Infirmary closed in 2007 because of inhumane conditions.

DC Village Infirmary was a snakepit similar to Willowbrook State School in New York and Pennhurst State School in Pennsylvania. DC Village Infirmary was akin to Willowbrook State School. In fact, DC Village was the “Willowbrook” of Washington DC.

DC Village was located at 1 DC Village Lane, Washington, District of Columbia, US.
