Back in 2010, uer.ca reported that Whittier Cotton Mill and Village was repurposed as a park. This park is a 22 acre public park located in a historic village.
The owners proposed to turn the Whittier Mills site into a landfill in 1980. However over the protests of local residents, those plans never materialized. Several buildings were burned by arsonists in 1986. Any other remaining structures were demolished in 1988 by Victorian Artifacts, Inc. Victorian Artifacts, Inc valued antique bricks. For over 2 decades, its mill buildings went unused. The original mill tower and a water tank still remains.
A 1991 news article in the Atlanta Journal Homefinder section indicated renovation work had been performed and it had been successful with the old mill houses selling for up to $75,000. Atlanta residents were seeking to preserve its historic status. A small investment group began to renovate the housing for resale.
Whittier Cotton Mill and Village is located at Spad Avenue NW, Atlanta, Georgia, US 30318.
