Mixerr Album Reviews #1,497

This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will review T-Lye - Igostakickit / Street Wize for a single review.

I Gotstakickit was a demo single released on cassette in 1994 from Sick Bay Productions. E-Moe produced on I Gostakickit and Street Wize. He produced and engineered the beats for both songs as well. T. McNeal and S. Gardiner were the investors for Sick Bay Productions and of course this demo cassette.

I Gotstakickit is about the day in a life of T-Lye. It's about how T-Lye kicks it with the Sick Bay Crew. It is filled with super heavy G-Funk bass along with that Bay Area sound. Think Mobb Music and gangsta rap filled with hip hop beats. Nothing but Mobb Music.

T-Lye was 16 years old and already kicking it like an OG when she recorded Igotstakickit with E-Moe and Tasha B (Tasha Brooks). She was in an original state of mind.

E-Moe did the drum programming on the I Gotstakickit track. Any beats done by E-Moe are always on point. Big Hollis has done stellar production too. Female vocalist Tasha B. makes an appearance on this song. Tasha B. reminds me of a little of R&B.

Street Wize is a 3 1/2 minute track about T-Lye's knowledge of the streets. T-Lye kicks game to her audience on this track. Now this version of Street Wize is not the 1993 version from her Street Wize demo that included a soul sample. This version of Street Wize used beats E-Moe had produced and engineered.

Living the mobstyle lifestyle since the age of 7 and now T-Lye’s 15. She spent 9 years without the help and love from her mother. T-Lye be slangin’ that crack rock right down the street. Flipping that check every 1st and 15th day of the month. T-Lye has to have mail because she can’t live without it. She’s got a kid now and can’t work ain’t about it. T-Lye would rather live a criminal lifestyle cooperating with illegal business to earn an income. A fresh pair of Jordan’s are way too important for T-Lye. In other words her priorities are fucked up.

Fools be trying to jack T-Lye. But fools can’t catch T-Lye as she’s rolling in E-Moe’s Coup with a .390 on her side. Street life is hard. Her father never taught her nothing so she became street wize. Slanging that heavy weight of yayo and crack rock is what she does and is known for.

Her dope spot started getting hot so she figured that it’s time to stop. She doesn’t want to show her face to an undercover cop or another cop. So she found herself another dope spot for her narcotics ring out in the boondocks. Obviously the boondocks is a preferable choice since nobody’s out there. Eventually T-Lye went on to get her education. She is on time and never short of her medication. Her occupation was a sworn drug dealer, but now she’s going straight while making money. It feels great. E-Moe tells no lies. You gotta be street wize. Coming from the Sick Bay you gotta be street wize.

T-Lye is deep in this music thang. She has a talented flow of rap and she well aware of this. T-Lye shows awareness in her raps. She hits the studio every chance she gets. She’s nothing nice once she gets on the mic. So now you fools know.

I don't know what went down with Sick Bay Productions or why T-Lye did not release a full album, but whatever went down with Sick Bay Productions remains a mystery. Maybe it was just for fun or maybe the money wasn't right at the time. It's such a such shame that artists like this get overlooked. This single was too short for me and the fans.

I rate this single, Igostakickit / Street Wize, 5/5*****!!
