Mixerr Album Reviews #1,671

3SF - Three Shades of Funk is one of the lesser known albums that came from the On Time Productions label from San Antonio, Texas. This album is not widely know as the Spooky G & Blackjack album or the New Def’Nition album because 3SF - Three Shades of Funk was solely promoted in San Antonio. The album was on cassette only. Three Shades of Funk is a funky R&B album with a touch of New Jack Swing.

The song Delicious has a New Jack Swing sound with a minor touch of rock and sounds very similar to New Edition, Guy, Ralph Tresvant, and New Kids On The Block. Percussion and beats are quite thin. The instrumentation overlaps the vocals which makes hearing the vocals difficult. That is the only downside to this song.

Delicious is a tale of romance about a woman named Delicious. This woman had no use for romance. Other guys will not have a chance to go out on a date with her. The woman is clearly a loner. She needs some lovin’. One look at her sexy thighs will make you melt. One look at her sexy thighs will make it worth your while. That will make you do her the right way or the wrong.

Do You Want Me Baby is a slightly uptempo R&B love song. Percussion and beats are quite thin. The vocals are difficult to hear due the overlapping instrumentation which overlaps the vocals which makes hearing this song difficult. That is the only downside to this song.

Do You Want Me Baby is about dealing with a woman who plays hard to get. She shoots men down who attempt to date her as she has no time for that. A pretty girl with looks and style can be hard to deal with sometimes. Love makes things better and all right.

The song Midnight uses a heavy bass line leaving crippling impact on your speakers. Surprisingly Midnight is more upbeat than all of the other songs included on this cassette. On this song, 3SF sings to us about how midnight is a time for love and romance.

Mind O’ Rhymes is a rap song against racial profiling by police. 3SF has a mind o’ rhymes. Their rhymes are dope.  Junior Boy of PKO composed these dope rhymes and composed this song.

I rate this album 3/5***.
