Richland Negro School opened in 1888 as a "negro school" for African-American students in Pflugerville, Texas. Richland Negro School was located at Cameron Road & Schmidt Lane on the outskirts of Pflugerville, just north of Manor. Richland Negro School educated students in grades 1 through 7. The range of students ages were from 7-12. The median student age was 13. Students hardly stayed in school past the age of 14.
The school was part of the Richland School District until 1908. Pflugerville ISD consolidated Richland Negro School in 1908 during the 1908-1909 school year. Pflugerville ISD has full control of the school in 1909.
41 students attended this school in 1934. Daily The average daily attendance was 20 students on a daily basis with a cost of $34.95 per student a year. The cost per year was $699 dollars, a couple hundred dollars less than their white counterparts. By the 1940s, enrollment was dwindling at Richland Negro School. Its days were numbered. Enrollment was dwindling at rural schools due to statewide consolidation of school districts in Texas. Pflugerville ISD shut down Richland Negro School in 1945. The building was demolished later on.
