Mixerr Album Reviews #2,093

Roger S. ‎– The Illegal EP is perfect old school garage house from the 90s. Production from older Roger Sanchez records are the best. You can hear some of the best music from garage on this record. This EP uses a lot of harmonics over many beats. Roger S. ‎– The Illegal EP was released in 1994 on Todd Terry's TNT Label.

Yes I Do (Gumbo Mix) is an old Roger Sanchez production which was released in 1994. The pitch is set perfectly and the beats are not too processed. Harmonics are added to the mix of garage house. That is the reason why can hear a harmonica playing at various points in the song. Some people consider Yes I Do (Gumbo Mix) to be one of his best works.

Yes I Do (S-Man's Ruff Mix) is just as good of a classic as Yes I Do (Gumbo Mix). The only difference is more beats and distortion have been added. Although this mix is not as ecstatic as the other mix.

My Organ is laced with a harmonious organ backing the entire track in a house styled manner. No harmonics are added to the mix of garage house. My Organ is considered to be another one of his best works by his fanbase. The song would have been good to use at the opening of this EP.

I rate this EP 5/5*****!!

The Sky Joose ‎– Sky Joose E.P. is one of the best jungle styled electronic EPs to have ever been released from the United Kingdom in 1994. The bass and drums are give this entire EP a jungle vibe. There are samples coming from all angles on this EP as well.

Sound Boy Burial samples Barry White - Playin Your Game Baby and Home T, Cocoa Tea & Shabba Ranks - Pirates Anthem. The horns, beats, percussion, and synths sample Barry White - Playin Your Game Baby. It’s a jungle soul mashup of samples, synths, and beats.

Sky Joose marks his return with the song Sky Joose Returns. It’s an electronic reggae mashup. Sky Joose Returns samples Buju Banton - Sound Fi Dead.

Fist Of Fury is known for the famous vocal sample which is “So you finally showed up you damn traitor.” which are vocals from Bruce Lee which actually came from a kung fu movie. Here is what the sampled Bruce Lee vocals say, “So you finally showed up you damn traitor. You broke our rules. That's right I'm back! And I'm gonna get you!” Fist Of Fury samples The Valentine Brothers - Just Let Me Be Close To You.

I rate this album 5/5*****!!

Full Circuit was an electronic single which Mateo & Matos ‎released at the end of the millennium in 1999 on 12” inch vinyl. The single was released on the underground label United Underground House Sounds. Full Circuit is one of the many releases from their catalog and discography that got overlooked. Nevertheless the duo managed to produce such beautiful songs. This is one of those singles you will regret not purchasing.

The soul sample that is used on Slammin comes from Bad Luck - Harold Marvin & The Blue Notes. You can hear the basic elements of house music on Slammin. The basic elements of house music used on this song are sampling, drums, bass, and synths.

And I'm Gonna Reach has an upbeat disco sound and vibe over medium bass which overlaps those filtered synths. Harmonics are added into the synths coming from an organ keyboard. There is a delay present in the organ keyboard. The drums and bass are filtered and don’t have much of a loud presence as they usually would. A repetitive vocal sample is used in the song which already gives away the  Electric synths and organs are what make And I'm Gonna Reach beautiful. This is some really nice house music for everyone to enjoy.

Just Wanna Know is another funky house jam produced by Mateo & Matos which is ideal for the dance floor. Now the drums are filtered.

I rate this single 4/5****.

Exploring Gus Fruh Park Cave with Mixerr.

Gus Fruh Park Cave is one of the lesser known caves of Austin/Travis County. This news article will explain the biology and geology behind Gus Fruh Park Cave.

Gus Fruh Park Cave was named after Gus Fruh Park which this cave is located in. Even cavers have a hard time climbing to get to Gus Fruh Park Cave.

A cliffside cave called Gus Fruh Park Cave is not visible to the from a far distance from Barton Creek in Gus Fruh Park and Barton Creek Preserve. The high distance above the ground makes accessibility difficult for many people. This cave is located just east of from Bullet Cave on The Flats, 100 feet above creek level. Only a cliffside.

One you reach the outside of this cave, you will be able to see a beautiful view of Barton Creek and Gus Fruh Park itself. Although the trees might limit or invade your view.

There is no crawlway inside of this cave as the entire is basically just a cliffside with no entry or crawlspace. Now the rock formation of this cave is native limestone. Many caves in Central Texas have a rock formation of native limestone. Raw iron ore can be found outside rims of this cave. Iron ore is the most common natural element found in this cave.

Lil Will  ‎– Better Days is one of the lesser known albums from the Organized Noise Productions camp from Atlanta, Georgia. This album did not get released publicly because the lead single Looking For Nikki did not chart. Only promotional copies of this album were issued on CD format. This is the only version of the album for which exists. Despite label politics, Better Days is a bonafide soul rap classic. Whild Peach is the band which provides instrumentation for some of the songs on his album.

Live at Greenbriar Mall (Better Days Introduction) was an introduction that was recorded live at Greenbriar Mall in 1997. The intro takes place at Greenbriar Mall in Atlanta, Georgia. Jackson and Milner greet us at the beginning. They say they have Nikki and Tanya (?) on the new team. A Phillipshead screwdriver and Slim Jim™ are in her hand. Rodney Boy is riding behind right her in his car which is a '72 Cutlass. Nikki breaks the window of his '72 Cutlass with the screwdriver. Now Jackson and Milner in pursuit of Nikki and Tonya as they soon call for backup.

Somebody For Everybody is a soft heavenly piano ballad with a violin ensemble that is a slow jam. Lil Will reminds us that some things aren’t meant to be. Sometimes the person you loves doesn’t love you back but you still love that person and have feelings for them. He also reminds us there is somebody for everybody on Somebody For Everybody. You just have to find the right person. The song is a classic love song.

Lil Will wonders where she is and wonder what she thinks of him. She still has his key. Will he see her again? He won’t feel sorry for himself or feel sorry for her. She is the one for him but she ended up leaving him for somebody else. He just was not in her plans but he still loves her.

She never promised that they would be together. He thought they would grow together as a couple. He thought they could grow together in a relationship. He didn’t think he could lose his grip. She is the one. It just wasn’t meant to be. She jumped ship to be with somebody else. That is what she wanted to do. He wants her to know that he still loves her.

She is dear to his heart. Why did she have to go?

What Kind Of Man Am I is a real A-Town classic laced with super heavy bass over a mean harmonica. What Kind Of Man Am I samples Nemesis - Munchies For Your Bass. The song follows a funky guitar groove.

Lil Will explains that his life is on the run. His situation is far from fun. He tells us we need to overcome. We never miss what we have until it’s gone. How take a stare without a thought to cultivate our lives so we can grow? We will never know if we don’t give a damn. There is so much we could accomplish. This world is nothing but an open door. Isn’t it ironic no one knows until the desperation grows?

Sometimes Lil Will feels like letting go. Everyday is a struggle for the lost ones trying to find the time. We get wrapped up in our own dreams that some people will never magnify. So what kind of man is Lil Will?

Low, Low is a Georgia-Texas connection with Pimp C from Texas and Lil Will & Cool Breeze from Georgia. Pimp C speaks the truth on this one. This song is one of the hard to find UGK material which exists. The song explores escapes of men who cheat on their lovers behind their back and without their knowledge. Basically they have sex with other people.

Cool Breeze likes it went his older sisters step in and tell us he’s down in his room. Can he ride with your girlfriend? These incidents will make you change your world. It will make you say, “Damn, I hate hustlers.” because hustlers keep them girls.

Cool Breeze and ONP goes out every weekend to spot females with big old tales that like to talk a lot. Cool Breeze begins the conversation by asking a series of questions. For some reason these females leave their panties home. So he has to introduce them to the game.

You see, Lil Will has a girl but she is in her own world. He is well aware of this. Lil Will and ONP are loyal. Don’t call Lil Will no hoe. That’s just how it goes. If you don’t tell, she’ll never know. Lil Will wants to keep his escapes on the low. He doesn’t want anybody to know. He has a "certain little spot" who he does his escapades. Lil Will has a secret crib nobody else knows about.

Pimp C is getting blowed and blitzed on the regular. He is talking dirty on his cellular phone. He tells us about his dirty escapades. It’s all for the money but she is still going to come see him. So don’t tell your girl.

Rocket is one of those songs to dance and skate to. The song follows a funky guitar groove. Lil Will and Organized Noize get the song crunk.

Looking For Nikki is a freaky song about a girl named Nikki and her friends. This song also pays homage and tribute to the former Atlanta nightclub Club Nikki. The song is laced with laced with infectious bass, melodic piano notes, groovy guitars, and those crunk 808 beats. Looking For Nikki is a soul rap cut which is a classic.

The homie Lil Will told a tale about the tale of Nikki and her friends. A freaky tale that is. Will is in his car driving down I-85. Will was reminiscing the last time him and Nikki were able to socialize with each other. His crew (friends) got into whatever club him and Nikki were in at that time. Every night it’s a different party which she attends.

He has been searching every party and every club for Nikki. The last place he checks for Nikki is a strip club called Club Nikki. He pulls off on the exit towards I-85 southbound looking for Nikki and her freaky friends. Eventually Will catches up to Nikki at a bar called Club Nikki. She was looking like a star. A model at the bar. Will asks Nikki, “Would you like to get in my Chevy, baby? We can do this every weekend.” They are at the bar after dark.

You can’t get anymore Atlanta than this song. Here is the most Atlanta line in the song.: “She got a brother named Southwest/A sister named College Park/An uncle named Decatur and he be boomin’ after dark/I’m still looking for Nikki” When it comes to parties, ya’ll ain’t ready. You can hear the words “ya’ll ain’t ready” repeat themselves in a repetitive manner throughout the song.

The song also serves as homage to the once famous strip club called Club Nikki on 1785 Stewart Avenue (now Metropolitan Parkway) in Southwest Atlanta. Club Nikki was the infamous strip club that operated on Atlanta’s Southwest Strip in the 1990s as the most popular adult entertainment spot for years. That whole strip was Atlanta’s red light district. Club Nikki operated under the names of Club Nikki’s, Club Nikki VIP, Nikki’s VIP, and Nikki VIP.

Now for those who are wondering and those of you who are still looking for Nikki, Club Nikki got shut down because the Mayor Bill Campbell revoked their liquor license in 1999. Despite having their liquor license revoked, the club still continued to serve liquor. Community opposition was raised against the club after prostitution among other illegal activities were going on inside. Residents want Club Nikki to be shut down along all those other clubs along Atlanta’s Southwest Strip.

It was after a dispute over the mayor's refusal to renew liquor license that Club Nikki soon shut down in 2001. The owner got sent to jail on federal arson charges for hiring someone to burn one of his competitors businesses. Even Atlanta gets too crunk for itself at times.

Today Club Nikki is no longer in operation and the building is now up for lease and for sale. KNOX ENTERPRISES LLP owns the property. Interestingly enough, Club Nikki is inside of a brownfield despite being located next to a small creek. Club Nikki is inside of a brownfield as described the by EPA.

I rate this album 4/5****!

Mixerr Album Reviews #2,089

Vallejo - Beautiful Life was the sophomore album by Vallejo released on TVT Records in 1998. This Vallejo album showed a more improved sound leaning more into a mixture of hard rock and Latin rock with songs such as Classico and Me Ya Voy. The songs are just as deep from their self-titled effort. The album included hits such as Classico, Snake In The Grass,

Hola bienvenidos! This song is an invitation to the new Spanish Classico sound by Vallejo. So come on down and let Vallejo take you there into the new millennium. Latin meets rock music on Classico creating a Latin rock fusion. Live instrumentation accompanied the Latin rock song with Vallejo using a mix of the Spanish and English language on Classico. Classico was their hit single for 2000 also.

It was the Vallejo anthem of 1998 and 2000 for the Vallejo band. Especially the Spanish version of this song which they would play at their live concerts. Classico was a hit when Vallejo performed that song during their live concerts. Many fans instantly fell in love with that song afterwords.

The song Snake In The Grass is a mild-mannered rock song backed by a selection of guitars and percussion. The groovy guitars really stand out. DJ Hurricane mans the turntables and provides those raw vinyl scratches.

Snake In The Grass is a sneak tale about a sneaky snake in the grass. Look out for the snake in the grass. The snake sees you coming. Squeezing out the innocence you may have. He will get your ass. He slips into darkness as you’re standing there alone. The snake kills with no remorse or sympathy. The snake is all equal opportunity.

Once Again is coming back home to the person you love. The song is a Vallejo love song. It’s coming around all in your senses. You’re changing your fast ways. And soon you will be home once again. Back home to the person you love.

You know what the say. Opposites attract when it comes to loved. That’s  something that comes up when people think about love. You trying to figure that person out. Figuring out the person you love is not going to be easy. Figuring out that person is going to be difficult. Love is something more than being friends. However that is not so bad.

The song is subtle and not too explicit. The lyrics in this song do not explain the raunchy side of sex. “That’s when you turn down the lights/And then you take me down…”

Naive is a song about being young and dumb. Everything you believe is not always true. The song has a theme distance due to lack of awareness.

I rate this album 4/5****!

Mixerr Album Reviews #2,088

The demo of long deceased Flint, Michigan rapper Chat Chat is a cassette that has been long forgotten. Chat Chat is a product of 90s Flint rap. Not too many people remember this rapper which is a tragedy because he left behind what could have been a career in music.

Chat Chat’s demo was recorded and engineered by Steve Pitts at Black Jack Studios in Flint, Michigan in 1994. Steve Pitts produced the entire demo himself. The songs included on this demo cassette are Somethin to Think About, Cry In Hell, Crazy Thought, Death Wish, and Lookin For A Gank. Chat Chat’s demo came out around the time King Hood Cykoz released their first album which was in 1994.

Chat Chat was influenced by the sounds of gangsta rap, electronic music, and horrorcore. Not only that, Chat Chat was influenced by the sounds of The Dayton Family, King Hood Cykoz, 211, Esham, Natas, Evol, and Variety of Sinz.

For those of you wondering what happened to Chat Chat, an explanation is provided below. It was a tragedy to what happened to Chat Chat. Here is what happened to Chat Chat:

Chat Chat was killed in 1994 around the age of 27. He killed with a gun which resulted into death was by gunshot. Chat Chat was murdered over a woman. One day, Chat Chat was killed in his car by his homeboy. He was dating some woman his homeboy was all behind his back. When he found out about this, he killed Chat Chat out of anger for what had happened.

His death was a shock. Chat Chat had left his child behind at the time of his death. His death was a tragedy that was not observed by Flint as a whole. His death remained overlooked and unnoticed. Robert Towne was Chat Chat the rapper. He was a rapper who was part of the Revelation Family on Revelation Records during the mid-1990s. He lived in King Hood on Dayton Street & Mason Street.

Chat Chat gives the public and us listeners something to think about on the song Somethin to Think About. The mood gets very dark quick as Chat Chat himself gets very deep on this song. He shares his thoughts on how life really is for him living in the ghetto.

The song starts off with some spooky ass eerie synths produced by Steve Pitts. Lyrics to the song start off with “Way to go/How close can I really get?/Didn’t want to find out/That’s why I don’t know”

Chat Chat talks about how hard it is to get a job when you’re from the ghetto. The trouble starts when a person from the ghetto submits in an application/resume only to have the employers throw it in the garbage. Who wants to hire a thug? No one. Not anyone in his community. Unemployment is the reason why Chat Chat joined a gang (on the set). He feels that he is unemployable due to being from the ghetto. People think he’s a fool but he’s making a profit in the middle of nowhere. Flint is just a place covered in cement. Living in the city is a pity.

You should have known who not to fuck with. That is Chat Chat. Police are locking niggaz up as they are coming up. If Chat Chat didn’t have an attitude, he would care about death. But he doesn’t. Death knows no color as death happens to everyone. Death has no boundaries. Chat Chat could care less. He sees more dead brothers as each day goes by.

You should know that Chat Chat has changed with the time. Change with the times so you won’t be left behind. Chat Chat says people don’t understand a black man like him. That’s something to think about.

Despite the negative vibe you get from listening to this song, Chat Chat has a message. His message is “Change with the times so you won’t be left behind.” That way you can adapt to change as time progresses forward.

Now the song has some of the best most prolific yet memorable lyrics which “Didn’t want to find out/That’s why I don’t know” and “Way to go/How close can I really get?”.

Cry In Hell (Death Wish) is similar to Crazy Thought as the song has dark subject matter. Cry In Hell is a death themed rap song where he gets very dark. The song has a dark eerie vibe similar to Something To Think About and Crazy Thought. The thick heavy bass blends in appropriately with the eerie vibe. His style of rhymes are wicked. References to wiccanism and satanism are mentioned throughout the song also.

On this song Chat Chat plays the role of a soul seeker who kills people out of meanness because he is evil. Evil possesses him to kill people.

Life’s a bitch. That’s why he stayed packed. He keeps a gat in his pocket for these niggaz in Flint or any other person. What’s worse is a person getting hurt. It’s time to get a soul. The soul is out cold.  He is mental as he is an individual who is sick in the head because he lives like a criminal.

It’s time to get a soul. He went out to take someone’s life at 12 during midnight. He doesn’t give a fuck. Now he’s busting people and watching them being brutalized. You only feel what a person feels if you look into their eyes. He murders people by giving them 2 bullets to the head. Chat Chat is loosing his mind as it is filled with evil. He is a soul seeker. Down in the basement is where the devil dwells. Your soul is required in hell. Your soul will be crying in hell.

He had a flashback as he looked at wrist. He remembers committing suicide by slitting his wrists. This is legit because he was suicidal at one point in his life. He lives his life in sin as he thinks about taking lives with his .38 revolver.

Chat Chat talks about doing hit and runs with his car. He gets violent as talks about running people down with his car. By running people down in his car he is killing them. For instance he stopped a truck driver on Clio Road and shot that truck driver on West Mott Avenue where Clio Road & West Mott Avenue intersect.

Chat Chat is Robert Towne’s split personality as he gets chatty. You don’t want to get introduced to his split personality. Chat Chat lives like a criminal.

Chat Chat is coming to get you. Watch him get hectic when evil thoughts lurk in his mind. This Sagittarius needs some wine. He needs a drink of wine. Insanity is what he thinks about. He does what he wants to do. So fuck what you think. He’ll get you. So don’t try to fight or run. He’ll play with your mind. Do a little voodoo. Chat Chat is satanic. He does damage when he is on the mic. Coming with he realness as he packs his steel. You better check yourself because if you don’t you might get killed.

Crazy Thought is a song which delves into the crazy mind of Chat Chat. The song has a dark eerie horrorcore vibe. Vinyl scratches used on this song blend in with the horrorcore element very well.

Time after time, Chat Chat feels crazy. He can’t get himself together. It’s gotten to the point where he is about to lose his mind. He needs to chill as he always has these crazy thoughts. By living in this hellhole, he knows he’s lost. Chat Chat feels as if he has no place to go. He doesn’t give a fuck about anyone. Chat Chat feels like grabbing his gun to kill someone. Like a crazy motherfucking G.

At the 0:51 timestamp is where he talks about killing his family. Here is how he killed his family: He shot his mother in the temple. He left her dead on the bathroom floor. His brother was an eyewitness to this killing. Chat Chat attacked his brother using a butcher knife. He stuck his little nephew in the freezer.

Homicidal business is what he is always thinking about. He smothered a little girl by kidnapping her. Nobody had a clue what happened to her. 2 weeks later, Chat Chat is attending her funeral. Now the song gets crazy at this point. He kills her father by putting a bullet hole in his head. Now he’s 6 feet under.

The ending of Crazy Thought is where the tape sounds like it's getting eaten up. Chat Chat's voice comes on the speakers saying, "Turn the tape off devil worshipping muthafuckaz!”

The album closes with the song Looking For A Gank. Looking For A Gank was produced by the legendary Flint producer Steve Pitts. Production work started in 1993 and ended in 1994. A perfect example of G-Funk.

Chat Chat is looking for someone to rob. He is looking for a gank. He starts by robbing a man for his link and dookie rope (gold rope). He put the barrel of his gun the man’s, clicked the trigger, and his head exploded. Now he goes to see Ronnie Johns. He has a .44 caliber handgun. Chat Chat realizes he has his sawed off shotgun.

He soon finds another person to rob. Money and dope were taken. Chat Chat left a bloodbath. Cops are after now after him. They want to fuck with his as they have an APB. Chat Chat runs to his house. A police car was on his grass. He turns the otters way to avoid being seen. Obviously he is paranoid. He is ooted up. Now he is smoking a Newport.

Chat Chat is broke and needs money. A nigga got jacked for a load of crack. He is on a rampage with his 12 gauge putting people on the front page newspaper.

I rate this album 4/5****!

Exploring the lost history of Glasscock Cemetery II in Manor, Texas with Mixerr.

Glasscock Cemetery II is one the many forgotten cemeteries of Travis County and Manor. Not too much history is known or can be discovered about this cemetery. Glasscock Cemetery II was also known as Glasscock Cemetery #2 and Glasscock Cemetery No. 2.

Glasscock Cemetery II was established in 1837 by George J. Glasscock on the Glasscock Ranch at the corner of Burleson-Manor Road and FM 969 as a family cemetery outside the small town of Webberville. There were only 4 graves at first with burials being all members of the Glasscock family who lived on the Glasscock Ranch. The cemetery expanded in 1847. Biron Glasscock was possibly the first person to be buried in Glasscock Cemetery II. He was buried at Glasscock Cemetery II in 1840.

According to a quarterly newsletter from Austin Genealogical Society (AGS), William D. Glasscock was likely to be buried in Glasscock Cemetery II when he died in June 1853. Oddly enough his burial had no marker or gravestone. [Ref: http://www.austintxgensoc.org/data/1996.3.pdf, AGS Quarterly Volume XXXVII, No. 3 (September 1996)]

According to the same quarterly newsletter from Austin Genealogical Society, Mahala Tombaugh Glasscock was the last person to be buried at Glasscock Cemetery II. Her burial is the most recent burial for this cemetery. Mahala Tombaugh Glasscock was listed as being buried in Glasscock Cemetery II in 1941. [Ref: http://www.austintxgensoc.org/data/1996.3.pdf, AGS Quarterly Volume XXXVII, No. 3 (September 1996)]

George J. Glasscock was buried in Glasscock Cemetery #2 in 1875. His burial was 1 of the 2 burials that took place during the 1870s. (Ref: http://www.austintxgensoc.org/data/1995.4.pdf)

Find A Grave reported Glasscock Cemetery II as “very likely no longer exists” as this cemetery was almost completely destroyed in 1974. Glasscock Cemetery II was almost completely destroyed by a homeowner who was building their house on their property near the corner of Burleson-Manor Road and FM 969. The land was graveled and repaved by a homeowner after building their house. The gravestones had been destroyed. There was evidence that other gravestones existed at this cemetery. (Ref: https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2611623/glasscock-family-cemetery-ll)

After long hours of researching land deeds and transfers from the Travis County Clerk records and Travis CAD records, Michael Mixerr has discovered Glasscock Cemetery II is all but gone due to new development around the property.

Glasscock Cemetery II was located at 18016 FM 969, Manor, Texas, US 78653.

Mixerr Album Reviews #2,087

Street Psalms is an instrumental hip hop album that Preach Tha God considers to be one of his best pieces of work as he has devoted much of his time to producing this album himself without any outside help from other producers. This album leans more towards an urban sound than your typical trip hop album.

Anti-Social is a modern day hip hop track with a contemporary sound that includes drill beats and cymbals over a melodic piano and infectious low bass. The electric synths are infectious as well. The song does  seem to use a filter as white noise is filtered out completely. All other background noise, besides the melodic piano, has been blocked out.

Follow Me uses much heavier bass than Anti-Social does. The song is accompanied by a woodblock and a low pass filter. You can hear a crunchy synth in the background if you listen to the song closely.

The synths and piano on Forget You are absolutely melodic and angelic. The sample fits in perfectly with the mood and sound.

So Fine uses a multitude of sound effects and foley effects. The finger snapping, clapping, glass pinging, chimes whistle in a breeze are what make the song infectious and invigorating. You get the occasional vocal sample in various parts of the song which says, “so fine” and “My baby/So fine/Alright”. The vocal sample fits in perfectly with the breezy angelic piano due to mood and sound.

Straight Thru sounds very much similar to an electronic soundscape from the video game Pong due to those blips, plurks, and delayed synths you hear coming from a keyboard. The electric synths you hear on this song sound very much similar to an acoustic guitar. Straight Thru uses a woodblock in a similar manner as Follow Me does. Electronic music meets modern hip hop on Straight Thru.

I rate this album 5/5*****!

Scrotum Nosedive released a demo album which was an untitled cassette in 1983. The front cover had the words “SCROTUM NOSEDIVE” in all capital letters. Their demo album had pretty harsh heavy metal with inaudible choruses. You could hardly hear any of their lyrics.

Scrotum Nosedive was of the many metal bands in San Antonio, Texas which had gotten got local notoriety in the newspapers for their vulgar lyrics and obscene acts. Those who lived in San Antonio during the 80s might remember Scrotum Nosedive. They were one of the many metal band which popped up during the ever-growning wave of glam metal.

An article in the SA Express dating back to 7/11/84 showcased the charred remains of the Donore Mansion which was also known as the Sheerin House and was located at 8139 Donore Place which was off Fredericksburg Road. This mansion was widely known to locals as "Midget Mansion”. On one side of the pool, the word Nosedive is shown on the right. For some reason SA Express censored the picture as the full graffiti piece was supposed to be Scrotum Nosedive and not just one word. The band Scrotum Nosedive had their name spray painted in the pool of Donore Mansion which was located at the address of 8139 Donore. Scrotum Nosedive had their name spray painted in the pool of Donore Mansion next to the infamous metal band SA Slayer. The address given for their untitled cassette was 106 Avacon, San Antonio, TX 78213.

More history of Hondo Catholic Church explored.

Only so much history of the Hondo Catholic Church in Hondo, Texas has been preserved. Not too much information and history is known about this Catholic church.

Passion Theatre ‎– Mannequin is the most expensive new wave synth-pop single in the music market. The single usually goes for $200 dollars when sold online. Very rarely does this 12” inch vinyl single sell for a reasonable price. Passion Theatre ‎– Mannequin is an unusual new wave synth-pop single that got overlooked during the New Wave era of the 80s. The songs In Love With A Mannequin and Vacation Day are what make the single quirky and unusual.

In Love With A Mannequin is known for the sample “They're coming to get you, Barbara!” The song is backed by an electric bass guitar, a kick drum, synths, and a tambourine. The song has that 80s synth-pop sound and is known for such unusual subject matter as the song pokes fun at agalmatophilia. Big Engine samples the lyrics to their song Liar Taker.

The vocal sample at the beginning says, “They're coming to get you, Barbara! Stop it. You’re ignorant. They're coming to get you, Barbara! Stop it. You’re acting like a child. They’re coming after you.”

The quirky synth-pop song In Love With A Mannequin is about a person who falls in love with a mannequin. Staring at them with those gorgeous eyes from a window of a clothing store. A nicely dressed mannequin is staring down the aisle. That's when the person realized they are in love with a mannequin. That person only wishes the mannequin was real. Lyrics to the chorus say, “Oh, I’m in love with a mannequin/I only wish she was real”

Here are the lyrics that make this song creepy, “I wanna make love to a mannequin”

The Fiesta Mix of Mannequin is pure fire. That joint is lit. Mannequin (Fiesta Mix) is considered to be rare and hard to find elsewhere.

Vacation Day is backed a selection of guitars, drums, and synths. The bass is ultra thick. Now the bass and beats are what stand out on this new wave synth-pop song. Most notably, the volume is set to a high setting. The song uses the balearic style of house music.

I rate this single 5/5*****!!

Mixerr Album Reviews #2,083

The Econochrist - Skewed EP is a hardcore punk rock EP with songs that have politically charged lyrics and messages to them. Songs such as Words Alone and Bled Dry are songs that have politically charged lyrics. Skewed is American hardcore punk rock at its best.

Bled Dry is a politically charged punk rock song about how we are slaves to our own selfishness. Our greed, selfishness, and decadence is what bleeds the world dry. Econochrist takes a stance against greed in this song of theirs.

Econochrist calls out the elite class for hoarding all their wealth and not paying their fair share of taxes. The elite bled the world dry. Wealthy people are what drain society. That is what these lyrics mean, “You bleed the world dry/The elite bled the world dry/For you too much is never enough/You horde all the wealth at our expense/You have too much when others don’t have shit”

Words Alone is a song how we can justify and defend our words with our own views. People cling to their opinions and views because it gives their lives a sense of meaning. What is it all worth anyway? What are words worth alone? Those are the big questions for this song. Words alone aren’t enough. People need to get up and take action.

Econochrist fights the system on this song with their lyrics with their “Question everything!” approach. Ironically the same people saying, “Fight the system” are the same ones that still work for the machine. That is what the lyrics “Of course the injustice must be stated/And everything must be questioned” mean. They say everything must be questioned. This is what we deal with. It’s guilt and shame that makes people blame each other. That is similar to the blame game.

I rate this album 4/5****!

Frank Bartels set free by Genesee County District Court judge.

Attention everyone! We have a killer on the loose in Flint, Michigan. The Genesee County District Court had freed a man named Frank Bartels on the date April 6, 2020. A judge has released him over an objection. This is because him and his attorney keep filing motions to dismiss charges brought against him for the death of Shane Stephenson. The courts have sided with Frank Bartels which in turn is delaying justice for Shane Stephenson.

Frank Bartels was responsible for the 2012 murder of Flint resident Shane Stephenson. He strangled her to death in an argument. He pleaded not guilty for her murder. Although he was charged in the charged with murder of Shane Stephenson, he was never convicted. He was arraigned on a single count of first-degree premeditated murder in Genesee District Court. (Ref: Husband charged with murder in wife’s 2012 suffocation death, Flint Journal, April 23, 2017)

Police were called to Bartels' home on Van Buskirk Street in Flint, Michigan back in January 13, 2012 after securing a search warrant for the home. A stolen .410-caliber pistol, a sawed-off shotgun, and a semi-automatic .22-caliber rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun were discovered in the basement along with a leather Avengers jacket. These were firearms without permits. Frank Bartels claims some of the firearms were purchased by another person. (Ref: https://www.abc12.com/content/news/Testimony-begins-in-2012-cold-case-of-husband-accused-of-killing-his-wife--479919863.html)

He decided to cop a plea deal by cooperating with prosecutors in the case. In the end Frank Bartels was sentenced to 3 years, 10 months in federal prison on March 25, 2013 by Flint U.S. District Judge Mark A. Goldsmith. Frank Bartels pleaded guilty of felony possession of firearms and to being a felon in possession of a firearm. This was the first time he has been charged with illegal firearm possession. (Ref: http://www.mlive.com/news/flint/index.ssf/2014/03/avengers_motorcycle_club_membe.html)

U.S. District Judge Mark A. Goldsmith sentenced Frank Bartels to serve his sentence at Milan FCI, in Milan, Michigan with a release date of 9/17/2017. Unfortunately he got out of prison and is now back on the streets. Frank Bartels lives in Fenton, Michigan. Turn him in to the police if you come in contact with him. We could have another Ronnie Johns case if we are not careful. (Ref: https://writeaprisoner.com/inmates/frank-bartels-46656-039/employment)

Family members want justice for Shane Stephenson and want Frank Bartels to serve prison time. Which is what most of her family members want. Her family members even want Frank Bartels dead. The family is demanding answers from the courts about why and how they could release this man back into society.

He has killed at least 3 people which includes the death of another woman. The latest victim he killed was Shane Stephenson. Frank Bartels has committed a list of crimes that predate 2012 on his criminal record. (Ref: https://www.mlive.com/news/flint/2017/04/avengers_motorcycle_club_membe_1.html)

Not only that. Frank Bartels is part of a motorcycle club/gang called Avengers Motorcycle Club. He goes by the name of Dr. Frankenstein. That is his club name. (Ref: https://gangsterreport.com/dr-frankenstein-strikes-in-michigan-avengers-mc-member-indicted-for-killing-his-wife/)

This man is a threat to our community and society. He needs to be taken off the streets and put in prison before he kills more innocent people. The truth of the matter is the system has failed its citizens. Frank Bartels is out on the street instead of prison where he belongs. Why isn’t Frank Bartels dead yet? People want to see Frank Bartels dead.

Frank Joseph Bartels lives in Fenton, Michigan. Turn him in to the police if you come in contact with him. We could have another Ronnie Johns case if we are not careful.

Exploring the history of Montopolis Cemetery aka San Jose Cemetery No. 2 explored. One of Austin’s most forgotten cemeteries.

Not much history can be found or discovered about Montopolis Cemetery aka San Jose Cemetery No. 2. Montopolis Cemetery aka San Jose Cemetery No. 2 is one of Austin’s most forgotten cemeteries that has long been forgotten.

Montopolis Cemetery aka San Jose Cemetery No. 2 was established on 4½ acres of land (4.5 acres) on Poston Road off Hoeke Lane in Austin, Texas sometime in 1843. Ada Seeling Poston purchased the 4½ acres of property in 1844 and a cemetery was later established. The cemetery was open to the public in 1844. The burials had no markers. (Ref: https://abc.austintexas.gov/attachment/attachmentDownload.jsp?p=rhL9yeJHMmUCynYV0gpaHYQlUeakbjOS5oWueW5EJIq7inE%2BsPiJJR3CO38Fn9WPo5kPrLtpNNTfu4oi7c8Zhe37WOk3LE7o%2FRWzi%2BAT%2BCJKnpLxpJv%2FDh0xManC8tpF)

A widow named Louise Seeling purchased the land from Ada Seeling Poston according to a deed from September 21, 1943. Louise Seeling appears to have been related to Ada Seeling Poston. She was a member of her family. (Ref: Travis County Public Records - Real Estate, Volume 722, Pages 623-625)

Louise Seeling approached the men's society at San José Church for help with groundskeeping maintenance in the 1940s. She had intended to create a community cemetery. The men's society at San José Church was already maintaining María De La Luz. So they refused her offer and turned her down. She still plotted and created this cemetery.

There are 21 graves. Most of the burials in this cemetery date from between 1947 and 1952. This is because priests from San José Church buried 12 people in this cemetery between 1949 and 1952. (Ref: http://sanjose.philmullins.com/environment/)
A gravestone at San Jose Cemetery II in 1980.
Sometime during the 20th century is when Louise Seeling sold the land to Joe M. Ruedos. His daughter, Gilberta R. Pena, was the only surviving heir and successor trustee to the Montopolis Cemetery. Gilberta R. Pena sold the cemetery to Refugio Herrera, Melecio Salazar, Joe Cisneros, and Ricardo Flores, Jr. in 1983. Refugio Herrera, Melecio Salazar, and Ricardo Flores, Jr. were the trustees for the Montopolis Cemetery. (Ref: Travis County Public Records - Real Estate, Volume 8179, Page 185)

Joe Cisneros sold this land to Gabriela Martinez in 2002. She was then made successor trustee of the San Jose Cemetery No. 2/Montopolis Cemetery. Gabriela Martinez would be the owner and groundskeeper of this cemetery for a number of years. (Ref: Travis County Public Records, 2002011749)

Esmeralda Muniz was named as successor trustee of the San Jose Cemetery No. 2/Montopolis Cemetery in 2010 according to a right of entry deed. Now Esmeralda Muniz is the current owner and groundskeeper of San Jose Cemetery No. 2. (Ref: Travis County Public Records, 2010047631)

In 2012, talks with City of Austin Code Compliance Department and Travis County were conducted about how to how to best clean up and document Montopolis Cemetery because the site has become an illegal dumpsite for trash. Business owners and volunteer groups have offered to help clean up the cemetery. Dale Flatt of Save Austin’s Cemeteries said, “The site will soon be cleared.” (Ref: https://www.sachome.org/e-newsletters/2012%20Winter%20enewsletter.pdf)

Today this cemetery is abandoned. Most of the head stones are hard to see as the cemetery is overgrown with brush and high grass. Trees have grown all over the cemetery property. San Jose Cemetery No. 2/Montopolis Cemetery has never really been properly excavated or surveyed by any archaeologists. (Ref: http://www.austintxgensoc.org/cemeteries/san-jose-ii-cemetery/)

If you enter this cemetery, you might not find all of the graves. Most of the graves are located on the east side of the cemetery. Entry to this cemetery is on the west side. The cemetery is not maintained and some graves are not marked. The earliest marker dates back to 1893 and the most recent marker dates back to 1988. There are earlier burials that predate 1893.

The address for Montopolis Cemetery is 8101 Posten Lane, Austin, Texas, US 78744. The other address for Montopolis Cemetery is 8101 Poston Lane, Austin, Texas, US 78744.

Rexx Erected served as the comeback album for the 1980s glam rock band Diamond Rexx. These 1980s glam rockers shows us they haven’t lost their touch with this comeback album of theirs. This album is not a glam metal album as people would have you think. The album has dark themed songs such as Bang! Bang! and Medicine Man. Love songs such as Fire, Is That All, and One Step Away are included on this album.

Watch Your Step is a short glam rock song about lies and deceit. The song includes the classic 19th century nursery rhyme Step on a Crack.

Diamond Rexx gets hot and bothered on the song Fire which ignites the fire to their fuel. The night’s getting hot and you will feel the heat. You’re in too deep and can’t escape. Your body aches as your feel the heat. The flames of love are what’s burning up inside your mind.

Medicine Man deals with drug addiction and drug abuse. Although the song mostly deals with drug addiction. The song also explores the thrills and side affects of drug addiction. Now the middle of the song explores the dark side of drug addiction.

The following lyrics are an example of drug addiction and drug abuse.: “Looking for a hand/I got your prescription, I know what’s in demand/Take another bottle, swallow down some pills”

Bang! Bang! is a dramatic tale about suicide. The song follows a character named Southside Johnny who is down on his luck and decides to take the easy way out by committing suicide.

Southside Johnny was dealt a bad hand of cards in life. The pain was too much for him to bear. Life was becoming a burden on him. He was already alone and out of luck. So he decided to take the easy way out by committing suicide. Death by gunshot was what ended his life.

He was running crazy on the street on a day to day basis. Undoubtedly he came to the conclusion that there ain’t no easy way to get out of this insane life. So suicide was the answer for him.

*[Rexx Erected is a wordplay on resurrected.]

I rate this album 4/5****!

Techmaster P.E.B. ‎– Bass Computer 2000 was one of the best bass music album that got overlooked in 1998. The whole album is a journey into Miami bass. Not only that, the album includes 4 previously unreleased tracks that have never been heard before. Car audio enthusiasts will enjoy this album as it includes low-frequency bass music. Now some of you may know that Techmaster P.E.B. as one of the pioneers of low-frequency bass music.

Techmaster P.E.B. takes listeners on a musical journey with the song Bass Journey. This is a journey into bass music. Warning: Low bass might cause damage to your speakers.

Eurotica is an unreleased song of his where Miami bass meets the sounds of European music in an erotic manner and demeanor. Notice how the song incorporates low-frequency bass tones everywhere. The sound Techmaster P.E.B. uses is perfect. He never does any wrong when it comes to production.

I rate this album 5/5*****!

Another update on Billy Calhoun from the Children Of Darkness documentary.

To rehash from the previous news article written by Michael Mixerr for Mixerr Reviews called “What happened to Billy Calhoun from the Children Of Darkness documentary?”, some words have been changed upon request from family members.

Things have changed. Billy has undergone several behavioral interventions and therapy sessions. Some of his phases eventually passed. The lobotomy and shock therapy never happened. As a result, Billy Calhoun now receives 24 hour care around the clock at South Beach Psychiatric Hospital and is heavily medicated by fair amounts of drugs. He is well cared for.

The self-injurious behaviors and self-destructive behavior is still evident and present. Just to a level that lets him function to the point where he can function to be not as aggressive or dangerous as he once was earlier in his lifetime.

William Calhoun (Billy Calhoun) was featured in the 1983 documentary film called Children of Darkness. Children of Darkness was a documentary produced and written by Richard Kotuk which focused on juvenile psychiatry, the emotionally disturbed, and health care in America.

Billy Calhoun was the patient who was hurting himself so badly from his self-injurious behaviors and being escorted by orderlies around the hospital at the very beginning of the Children Of Darkness documentary. Billy Calhoun was another star of the documentary as he was featured all over the place in regard to this documentary. Richard Kotuk focused a portion of his time filming Billy Calhoun due to his strange behavior. Billy Calhoun has a profound case of severe autism.

The Children of Darkness documentary was broadcasted nationally on television in the United States on PBS that same year. The Children of Darkness documentary explored the lack of mental health care in America for juvenile psychiatry. Many seriously emotionally disturbed youth were shown. Richard Kotuk filmed and directed Children of Darkness documentary. (Ref: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTCSfx47R1w)

William Calhoun (Billy Calhoun) was born in 1963. At the age of 4, he was labeled severely mentally retarded. He was then later diagnosed with autism. As a child, Billy was suffering from severe autism. His severe autism caused him to act out in an aggressive manner as he was dangerous around others and himself. His family could no longer handle him or his dangerous destructive behavior. His self-injurious behaviors worsened as he acted more aggressive towards others.

At the age of 7, he was placed in a state institution called Sagamore Children’s Hospital. His mother, Mary Calhoun, saw him every week until she died.

A news article from the Boston Globe referred to Bill Calhoun as an abusive child. He had reportedly beaten himself on every part of his body. (Ref: Boston Globe, Page 67, Wednesday, May 4, 1983)

“A self-abusive child, he has beaten himself on every part of his body, torn at his body with his hands and smashed his head to the point of detaching his retina. You'll hear his mother ask tearful, painful questions. "Why is this child? Why did God create him? That's all I've ever wondered. You know - what does it mean? It has to have a meaning. Everything has a meaning. What is his meaning? Why is Billy here? I don't know." This may be the most shocking segment.”

During his stay as a patient at the Sagamore Children’s Hospital, Billy underwent intense therapy while being in restraints for 2 ½ years long. Every 2 to 3 hours, Billy would be “walked” by orderlies around the hospital so his muscles would not atrophy or deteriorate. Billy had attacked hospital staff and orderlies in the past. Most of the time he was strapped to his bed at the time. He was in a state of constant panic being unaware of what was going on around him. (Ref: http://www.psychiatricsurvivorarchives.com/phoenix/phoenix_rising_v4_n3_n4.pdf)

When he was 19, he was transferred over to South Beach Psychiatric Care Center in Brooklyn, New York. He stayed at that hospital for 15 years before being transferred to South Beach Psychiatric Hospital just miles away. He is currently at South Beach Psychiatric Hospital. (Ref: https://moviechat.org/tt0085329/Children-of-Darkness/58c73f036b51e905f66d513b/Available-on-Video-DVDVHS)

He's lucky to be well cared for as he can't function much better. He has caring staff day and night.

A look at Schulmeier Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.

Schulmeier Cemetery is one of the hundreds of cemeteries located in San Antonio and Bexar County. Not too much history can be found or discovered about this cemetery. This cemetery is located on the Northeast side of San Antonio, Texas. This news article will explain the history behind Schulmeier Cemetery.

Leopold Schulmeier plotted this cemetery in 1886 off what is modern day road Wetmore. This cemetery was a family cemetery which belonged to the Schulmeier family. Bettie F. Schulmeier was the first person to be buried in this cemetery. She died in 1889. Family members of the Schaefer family and Steubing family have been buried here as well.

The most recent burial for this cemetery was the burial of Max Carl Schulmeier who died on the date of 11/6/1967. The cemetery fell into disuse by 1970. There were no known modifications or destruction done to Schulmeier Cemetery after 1970. The land for Schulmeier Cemetery was transferred over to Bexar County shortly after Max Carl Schulmeier passed away.

FindAGrave reported the cemetery of having their gate locked in 2006. So Schulmeier Cemetery was inaccessible by 2006 and was very overgrown. Many historians, surveyors, and volunteers were unable to gain access. (Ref: https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/6807/schulmeier-cemetery#view-photo=4280181)

A comment from one of the users on foursquare.com dating back to July 2012 reports “People are just dying to get in here.” There have been attempts set by a small handful to access this cemetery. However the cemetery is inaccessible due to overgrowth of natural vegetation. (Ref: https://foursquare.com/v/schulmeier-cemetery/4f0d35c6e4b0b3060641cf2e)

US DOT has listed Schulmeier Cemetery as Potentially NRHP-Eligible Cemetery in a historic cultural resources survey composed in July 2016. TX DOT has also listed Schulmeier Cemetery as an NRHP-Eligible Cemetery as well. (Ref: https://railroads.dot.gov/sites/fra.dot.gov/files/fra_net/16571/Texas-Oklahoma%20Passenger%20Rail%20Study%20Service-Level%20DEIS%20Appendix%20J%20Historic%20Architectural%20Technical%20Study.pdf)

Today Schulmeier Cemetery is a county owned cemetery which is owned by Bexar County. Bexar County Central Appraisal District (BCAD) reports Bexar County having 100% ownership of Schulmeier Cemetery. (Ref: http://www.bcad.org/clientdb/Property.aspx?cid=1&prop_id=586977)

Mixerr Album Reviews #2,080

Lil Rascal - Da Phunky Runt was released by none other than gospel rap artist Lil Raskull in 1994. That album was released on Dead Game Records. This album was released during the great ''Golden era'' when music was not only music but was an art. This album is one of Lil Raskull’s lesser known albums that did not receive nationwide distribution similarly to the albums The Benediction and Because It Was Written.

Now Lil Raskull was going by the moniker of Lil Rascal and was not a well known gospel rap artist in the world of Christian hip hop yet. This piece of work was his first professional album. He was a gangsta rap artist at the time this album/EP was recorded and written. This album is a gumbo of mixture of gangsta rap and funk produced by Tiger. Now Tiger had magic. He could play music he produced and dudes would throw money at him. He was definitely real sick with them beats. Not to mention funky. The deal was made possible by Tiger. Lil Raskull wouldn’t be the artist he is today if it wasn’t for him.

Pen N Pixel did the designs for the label logos and fonts. The vinyl uses a black and white color scheme.

Lil Raskull was signed to an underground label in Houston, Texas called Knee Hi Records. Knee Hi Records was the byproduct of seed money they received from a street pharmacist. The street pharmacist funded Knee Hi Records for $10,000 dollars in terms of start up cost. Tiger was working out of a studio on the Southside neighborhood of Houston, Texas. (This studio was the same studio Scarface was discovered in.) However this album received limited distribution and was only pressed up on 12” vinyl. Only a limited number of copies of this vinyl seem to exist.

Here are the reasons why Da Phunky Runt album did not receive nationwide distribution and became one of his lesser known albums.

Reason #1. Lack of being business savvy.

Neither Tiger or Lil Raskull had any business savvy. That $10,000 dollars worth of funding dried up before the album could get any nationwide distribution to the streets. So this resulted in only a limited number of copies being pressed up on 12” vinyl. That is why Da Phunky Runt was never pressed up on CD or cassette.

Reason #2. The demand of wanting more from the producer instead of the artist.

People in Houston wanted more from Tiger (the producer) instead of Lil Rascal (the artist). Everyone believed in Tiger’s production, not necessarily Lil Rascal. His production is what lead Lil Rascal to be overlooked. Dead Game heard Tiger’s production from Lil Rascal’s album/EP and immediately wanted to draft him to their production team and label.

Reason #3. Low confidence on Lil Rascal’s part.

His talent wasn’t strong enough to make anyone believe in him yet. Lil Raskull didn’t think he could be a talented rapper.

Three of the songs including the Jus Da Intro and Mi Way were later included on his 1995 album Like A Grown As Man.

The version of Mi Way that is on this album/EP is the original version and is not labeled as interlude. Dead Game Records like the song so much they decided to turn Mi Way into an interlude called Mi Way (Interlude) which would later be included on his 1995 album Like A Grown As Man. The funky bass lines follow a ghostly rhythm that is produced by Tiger. The Mi Way song is an instrumental.

I rate this album 4/5****!

Exploring the real history behind Gillespie Mansion in San Antonio, Texas.

This news article will explore the history behind called Gillespie Mansion which was once located in San Antonio, Texas. This news article will disperse any of the rumors that have been floating around out there.

There has been a lot of confusion over the mansion being Gillespie Mansion due to location as there were several mansions once established in this are. That is why there has been so much confusion and rumors spread over the course of several years. No the Gillespie Mansion is not the Midget Mansion that was located at 8139 Donore. That was never true.

Bexar County Central Appraisal District (BCAD) had property records had the Gillespie Mansion belonged to Fred Gillespie and his family members. So it was Fred Gillespie who owned the land all along and not Vance Jackson.

James Milton Vance purchased land off Vance Jackson Road in 1886 and started a small dairy farm on the property which was called the Vance Ranch. He built his home there in 1888. Him and his wife had 5 children. One of their daughters married Fred Gillespie. Fred Gillespie became owner of the property sometime in the 1900s. The Vance Ranch would become the Gillespie Ranch.

The Gillespie Mansion was originally built sometime in the 1920s. The Gillespie Mansion was designed by renowned architect Alfred Giles and once was surrounded by 150 acres of land. Gillespie Mansion was owned by Fred Gillespie and his family members. He was part of the same conglomerate that owned Gillespie Ford.

Gillespie Mansion was a three story mansion that was 4,400 square feet in size. Connecting to the mansion was a long drive-way up. The long drive-way went up to the entrance that lead to a circle shaped drive-way in front. This circle shaped drive-way was located in front of the mansion. A marble fireplace was constructed in nearly every room. An enclosed glass breezeway went around the house. The third floor was a ballroom were wedding receptions, social gatherings, and parties were held.

Zelime Vance Gillespie did some remodeling to the mansion later. It was Zelime Vance Gillespie that did some remodeling to the home, replacing much of home's dark Victorian finishes with light tones, reflecting her classical revival tastes.

Gillespie Mansion was built and designed to be handicap accessible for the physically disabled because Fred Gillespie’s wife was in a wheelchair. His wife was Mrs. Frank Gillespie. This made her living situation easier and gave her more accessibility around their mansion. This is the reason why many of the doors had door knobs placed lower than their usual height/location. The same goes for the bathroom fixtures.

Frank Gillespie Jr. used the mansion as an office for a while. Wedding receptions, social gatherings, parties, and other family events were held at Gillespie Mansion.

For reasons unknown this 3 story mansion was abandoned by 1970. Several fires occurred at Gillespie Mansion over the years. There are many reasons why there have been fire incidents at this location. Neglect and vandalism had taken place on the inside. Gillespie Mansion had been destroyed on the inside in 1981 by fire. The exact cause of this fire remains unknown to this day.

Biz Journal reports that Gillespie Mansion had been only used for family gatherings since their grandmother passed away 30 years prior.

By 2001, the Gillespie Family decided to move due to the urban expansion and population growth that was growing towards that area. The property of Gillespie Mansion was sold in 2002 to a private corporation by Frank Gillespie Jr. himself. This private corporation would turn the property into a shopping center anchored by WalMart. The Gillespie Mansion structure was moved to a newly purchased ranch in Kendall County after the death of Frank Gillespie later that year. In 2002 the rest of the Gillespie Ranch was sold to development firm Hill-Granados Retail Partners LLC and Dellview Marketplace. Other parcels of this property were sold to businesses, corporations, homeowners, and local government.

The only surviving structure of the Gillespie Mansion is the guest house located at 500 Freiling Drive. The guest house has been remodeled into Granados Park Community Senior Center. That is the only structure that remains.

Vance View Stables was located on property owned by Fred Gillespie and his family members. Vance View was a beautiful place. Vance View Stables held classes in horse training, horse riding, and everything equestrian related. Horses could be seen running on the property and be seen behind the fences along Vance Jackson Road. Vance View Stables was a part of the Gillespe Ranch and the Vance View Equestrian Center. John Laster and Dottie Laster owned Vance View Equestrian Center.(Ref: https://biobridgeglobal.org/news/biobridge-global-there-were-horses-and-stables)

Here is the history behind the guest house that was on the Gillespie Mansion property.

Now the guest house was a smaller house that was a single story structure built on a concrete slab foundation in 1935. There never was a basement. This house was built and designed to be handicap accessible for the physically disabled. Many of the ceilings were low. The guest house remodeled and modified in 1943. The guest house was located close to Freiling Drive. The guest house had a road that lead to another mansion. This mansion was located on a hill. On the date of 11/25/2002, Frank Gillespie and Zelime Vance Gillespie had the guest house property deeded to the City of San Antonio. The guest house became abandoned sometime around 2004. This house sat abandoned for less than a decade. No significant changes, remodeling, or modifications were done to the house after being abandoned. City of San Antonio remodeled the former guest house in 2008. A food-preparation area, meeting room, classrooms, wheelchair-accessible restrooms and an exercise room were installed inside the former guest house. The renovation and remodeling costs were $1,465,346 dollars from a HUD housing grant. (Ref: San Antonio Express-News, New senior center, park coming to S.A., January 11, 2008)

This senior center has now been renamed to Granados Park Community Senior Center. Granados Park Community Senior Center owned and operated by the City of San Antonio. The former guest house is now owned by the City of San Antonio. San Antonio citizens still call the guest house the Gillespie Mansion to this day. This is due to the guest house being located on the same property. The guest house was never the Gillespie Mansion.

The guest house for Gillespie Mansion is located at 500 Freiling Drive, San Antonio, Texas, US 78213. Yet BCAD has the addresses listed under 1003 Freiling Drive, San Antonio, Texas, US 78213 and 1001 Vance Jackson Road, San Antonio, Texas, US 78201.

Here is the history behind the park located in front of the former guest house.

The property for the Virginia Marie Granados Community Center and Park was donated to the City of San Antonio by the Frank Gillepie and Granados family in 2002. The guest house was used as a city office for a short time before relocating.

A 5-acre park called Virginia Marie Granados Community Center and Park was later established on the same property with help from San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department in 2008. A construction ceremony was held on the date of January 11, 2008. District 1 City Councilwoman Mary Alice Cisneros, celebrated the groundbreaking for the renovation of the existing home as an adult and senior citizen activity center.

The center is named in memory of Virginia Marie Granados. The senior center was originally named Virginia Marie Granados Senior/Adult Activity Center and Park when first opening to the public. This park has now been renamed and shortened to Granados Park. The park is owned by City of San Antonio and is maintained by San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department. There was another large house behind the Gillespie Mansion just on the left of the long 2 lane road that connected to the mansions on their property. This large house was the first house which was located horizontally next to I 10 and was the first house on the 2 lane road connecting to all the mansions.

This large house was used as a restaurant in the mid-70s. This restaurant shut down in 1980 and became a March of Dimes Haunted House. However the March of Dimes Haunted House would not operate for very long as the inside caught on fire in 1981 thus leading the business to shut down immediately. Unsurprisingly this house became abandoned. The house became a hot spot for vandalism and arson. So much illegal activity took place there. Not too surprising since a lot of craziness happened at the home at one time.

The other mansion which had a road leading to the guest house was located on top of a hill and was the third house on the 2 lane road connecting to all the mansions. This mansion was used as a residence until being demolished in 1973.

The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center now stands at where their other mansion was, located at 6211 W Ih 10, San Antonio, Texas, US 78213. Alamo Credit Union occupies the other part.
