History of M.C. Williams High School in Houston, Texas forgotten. (Revisited)

The history of M.C. Williams High School in Houston, Texas seems to have been forgotten over time. Only so much is known about this school and its history. Over the years, M.C. Williams High School went under several names such as M.C. Williams Middle School, M.C. Williams Senior High School, and M.C. Williams Junior-Senior High School.

Houston ISD put out a contract for bid in the Houston Post newspaper in 1955 for construction of a new high school building. Construction was completed in 1956. The school would open in 1956 during the 1956-1957 school term.

M.C. Williams High School M.C. Williams High School was a “negro high school” that served as a high school for African American students attending Houston ISD schools in the Acres Home neighborhood sometime during the 20th century. This school was 100% black throughout the 1960’s. That was until Federal Courts outlawed segregation and demanded public schools be integrated. M.C. Williams High School desegregated in 1970.

At some point during the 20th century, M.C. Williams High School downgraded from being a high school and was transformed into a middle school. That is how M.C. Williams High School became M.C. Williams Middle School.

Today the M.C. Williams High School building now houses M.C. Williams Middle School. M.C. Williams Middle School is operated as a middle school by Houston ISD and educates students in grades 6 through 8.

  1. MC Williams built in 1964 as a junior high first senior class 1967 thru 1978 not in the 50s. I'm a 1973 graduate.

    1. My grandpa graduated from there in 1967, Francis Comeaux Jr. He just passed but I remember him taking me there for a reunion.
