This news article will explore and expose one of Waco’s forgotten ice factories called E D Conger Ice Factory. Some of the history will be explained. This ice factory dates back to the 19th century.
E D Conger Ice Factory was constructed and established at the corner of South 8th Street & Franklin Avenue in Waco, Texas in 1877 by Edward Dunallen Conger (Edward D Conger). He owned an ice factory in Waco called E D Conger Ice Factory. The business started operations during the late 1870s. 1877 was their first year of business. (Ref: Waco Sanborn Map 1885, Sheet 9)
E D Conger Ice Factory was rebuilt and opened in the middle of 1884. Waco Daily Examiner advertised E D Conger Ice Factory as a “New Ice Factory” in their newspaper which also was used as a caption for their news article which was printed concurrently. Waco Daily Examiner advertised E D Conger Ice Factory under the caption of “New Ice Factory” in their newspaper several times in 1884.
