History of the Bergstrom Terrace Apartments explored.

The Bergstrom Terrace Apartments are one of the most forgotten apartment complexes of Austin, Texas. Not much history is known regarding this apartment complex. This news article will explain and divulge into the history of Bergstrom Terrace Apartments.


 

The land where Bergstrom Terrace Apartments were originally belonged to Doyle H Moore and the Moore family. History of this land dates back to the early 1800s, specifically around the 1830s.

 

Huge lots on Dalton Lane were being sold for $1,900 per parcel in 1964. An advertisement about the huge lots were posted in the Austin American newspaper on the date of Saturday, November 14, 1964. Bergstrom Terrace Apartments began running advertisements in the Austin American newspaper with bedroom units for small families with a $90 monthly rent rate in 1967. Each unit had a stove and refrigerator furnished. These apartments were bedroom apartments. N. A. Giblin was the manager and the phone number was GR 6-9961. The monthly rent rate appealed to Air Force Base personnel with small families as the apartments were conveniently located next to Bergstrom Air Force Base. Bergstrom Air Force Base was located just less than 3 miles away from Bergstrom Terrace Apartments.




By 1972, Bergstrom Terrace Apartments began posting advertisements for one bedroom apartments which were single bedroom apartments. New all brick washrooms were constructed in each unit. (Ref: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/386636862/)

By the end of 1973, rent rates for apartment units at Bergstrom Terrace Apartments went up for a nice price of $120 a month. The Austin American advertised units for Bergstrom Terrace Apartments as “real nice for only $120”. The Bergstrom Terrace Apartments offered a beautiful view of the city. A portion of Bergstrom Terrace Apartments were deeded to Doyle H Moore in 1974 despite the land originally belonging to him. (Ref: Travis County Plats, Book 68, Page 78)

1978 was the last year Bergstrom Terrace Apartments was advertised in the Austin American-Statesman newspaper. Now the last time the Bergstrom Terrace Apartments were advertised in the Austin American-Statesman newspaper was on the date of Tuesday, June 6, 1978. Bergstrom Terrace Apartments had stopped appearing in the Austin American-Statesman newspaper by 1979. That is because the Bergstrom Terrace Apartments were demolished around 1980 due to FAA regulations requiring there not be any residential educational buildings be with in a flightpath of any air force base.
